Adventure Checklist: In & Out ("Adventure Checklist") is developed by Aaron Ross Jacobsen. This policy explains what information the app handles, why it is used, when it may leave your device, and the choices available to you.
This policy describes the Apple version of Adventure Checklist. It will be updated before a materially different platform version or data practice is released.
Adventure Checklist is local-first. Most features work without an account.
Adventure Cloud is optional and must be enabled intentionally.
Adventure Groups share only the Adventures a user deliberately publishes to a selected Group.
The app does not contain advertising, third-party analytics, or cross-app tracking.
The developer does not sell personal information.
The app does not request background location or continuously track your location.
Photos remain on your device and are not uploaded to Adventure Cloud as of the effective date of this policy.
Purchases are processed by Apple. The developer does not receive complete payment-card information.
No generative-AI service receives your Adventures or other personal content.
Adventure Checklist may store the information needed to provide the features you choose to use, including:
Adventure names, types, dates, status, destinations, coordinates, access details, route information, parking pins, notes, and links;
checklist sections and items, quantities, packing status, Pack Out status, assignments, and completion history;
Gear Locker records, categories, quantities, condition, storage location, allocations, restocking information, and Gear history;
templates, reminders, preferences, achievements, XP, progression history, and Smart Adventure settings and results;
Memories and photos you select or capture;
locally cached maps, weather information, and service-response timestamps;
backup, export, widget, notification, appearance, and onboarding preferences; and
Adventure+ entitlement status supplied by the App Store.
This information is stored in private application storage by default. It remains on the device unless you enable Adventure Cloud, deliberately share an Adventure with a Group, create a backup or export, add dates to your calendar, open another map or road-information service, or use the operating system's share sheet.
You do not need an Adventure Cloud account to use the app's local features. If you choose to create an account, Google Firebase processes information needed to provide authentication and cloud services, including:
your display name and email address;
your Firebase user identifier;
your email-verification and account status;
authentication and security information processed by Firebase, such as your password, IP address, user agent, and security or device-attestation tokens; and
technical request timestamps and identifiers used to operate, secure, synchronize, and troubleshoot the service.
The developer does not receive your plain-text password. Firebase Authentication handles credentials and account sessions.
When Adventure Cloud is enabled, eligible structured records may be synchronized so that your information remains available across your devices. This can include Adventures, dates, checklist content and status, destinations, Gear, progression records, Memories metadata, and related settings. Passwords, authentication tokens, store credentials, purchase receipts, weather caches, temporary share cards, and local backup files are not synchronized as ordinary user records.
As of the effective date of this policy, Adventure and checklist photo files remain local to the device and are not uploaded by Adventure Cloud. A future remote-media feature will not be enabled without updating this policy and the app's disclosures first.
Adventure Groups are optional. Joining a Group does not automatically share your private Adventures. An Adventure is shared only after an authorized Group member deliberately selects that Group for the Adventure.
When an Adventure is shared, active Group members may receive information associated with that Adventure, including its name, type, trip dates, status, destination, checklist, packing progress, assignments, and collaboration updates. Members may also see the display names of other members and the people associated with assignments or actions. Do not place sensitive information in an Adventure or checklist that you do not want the selected Group to see.
Group owners can choose whether only the owner or all Group members may publish Adventures. Group owners may remove members. Removal ends future access, but limited historical display-name or assignment snapshots may remain so earlier completed actions stay understandable. Deleting a Group does not delete members' unrelated private Adventures or other personal device data.
Invitation links are time-limited and single-use. Anyone who receives an invitation link may be able to attempt to accept it, so share invitations only with the intended recipient.
Adventure Checklist requests foreground location only after you choose a location-based action, such as using your current location or saving a parking pin. The app does not request background location, create geofences, or continuously track you when the app is closed.
Destination searches are submitted only after you initiate a search. Apple or another device-platform geocoding service may process the search text and related location information under the platform provider's policies.
When you view an in-app map, OpenFreeMap receives the map style and tile requests needed to display the visible area. These network requests can reveal technical information such as an IP address and the approximate map region requested. OpenFreeMap uses map data from OpenMapTiles and OpenStreetMap contributors.
When you request weather, coordinates rounded for the service request are sent over HTTPS to:
the United States National Weather Service for supported U.S. locations and alerts; or
the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) for global forecasts and fallback coverage.
These providers also receive ordinary network information such as an IP address and the app's identifying user-agent string. MET Norway states that direct API requests may log the user's IP address and requested coordinates. Successful forecasts may be cached locally for offline use.
When you choose to open Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, an official road-condition website, or another external service, the destination or route information needed for that action is sent to the service you selected. Those services handle information under their own terms and privacy policies.
Exact route origins, parking pins, private notes, account identifiers, and checklist or Gear content are excluded from the app's route-sharing output by default. Review any content before sharing it.
You may choose a photo from the system photo library or use the camera for an Adventure, checklist item, Gear record, or Memory. The app requests access only after you select the related feature. Selected images are copied into private app storage and may be resized for app use.
Photos can leave the device only when you deliberately include them in a backup, export, or system share action. As of the effective date of this policy, the app does not upload photo files to Adventure Cloud.
If you choose Add to Calendar, Adventure Checklist opens the system calendar editor with the Adventure's name and dates. You choose whether to save the event and which calendar receives it.
Optional reminders are scheduled through the device notification system. Widgets receive only the app information needed to display the selected Adventure or checklist status through storage shared between the app and its widget extension.
Backups, data exports, Adventure exports, Gear exports, and share cards are created only after you request them. The system share or save interface lets you choose the destination, app, service, or person that receives the information. A recipient or storage provider may retain a separate copy under its own terms and privacy policy.
Adventure+ is offered as a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase. Apple processes the purchase and provides signed product, transaction, and entitlement information needed to complete, verify, restore, or revoke access. Adventure Checklist may use Apple StoreKit and a secured Firebase function to verify applicable transaction evidence.
The developer does not receive or store your complete payment-card details. Apple handles purchase information under Apple's policies.
Adventure Checklist does not include a third-party analytics or advertising SDK and does not automatically send your Adventure content to the developer for analytics.
If you deliberately create or share a problem report, the app produces a limited diagnostic summary. It excludes passwords, authentication tokens, email, Adventure and Gear content, destinations, coordinates, notes, backups, and purchase data. If you contact support, the developer receives the email address, message, and attachments you choose to provide and uses them to respond and maintain appropriate support records.
Information is used only as reasonably necessary to:
provide the app features you request;
authenticate an optional Adventure Cloud account;
synchronize private records across your devices;
provide invitations, Groups, assignments, collaboration, and completion XP;
verify and restore Adventure+ access;
provide maps, destination search, weather, calendar, reminders, sharing, backups, and exports;
prevent abuse and secure accounts and cloud data;
respond to support or privacy requests; and
comply with applicable legal obligations.
Adventure Checklist does not use personal information for third-party advertising, sell personal information, or track activity across unrelated apps and websites.
Depending on the features you use, Adventure Checklist may interact with:
Google Firebase privacy and security information for authentication, database synchronization, cloud functions, and service security;
Apple Privacy Policy and App Store & Privacy for platform services and purchases;
OpenFreeMap Privacy Policy for map style and tile delivery;
OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy for applicable OpenStreetMap-operated services;
National Weather Service Privacy Policy for U.S. forecasts and alerts; and
MET Weather API Terms of Service and MET Norway Privacy Policy for global weather forecasts.
Services you open through the system share sheet, navigation chooser, calendar editor, file picker, or external links are controlled by their respective providers.
Local information remains on your device until you delete it, erase local app data, or uninstall the app, subject to the device operating system's storage and backup behavior. Files that you exported, shared, or backed up must be deleted separately from the destination where you saved them.
Cloud information remains while your Adventure Cloud account and synchronized records are active or as otherwise needed to provide and secure the service. The app provides controls to export your information and manage or delete your Adventure Cloud account. Account deletion removes the Firebase Authentication identity and associated user cloud records, withdraws the account from Groups it does not own, and removes Groups owned by that account. Local app data is retained unless you separately choose to erase it.
Deleting an Adventure, leaving or being removed from a Group, or deleting a Group may remove the corresponding active cloud access and records. Limited security logs, provider backups, or historical snapshots may remain for the periods required by the applicable service provider, law, fraud prevention, or system integrity.
You can:
use the app without creating an Adventure Cloud account;
choose whether to enable cloud synchronization or Group sharing;
choose the specific Adventure and Group involved in a share;
decline or revoke camera, photo, location, calendar, and notification permissions in system settings;
delete Adventures, photos, Gear, Memories, and other records in the app;
use Privacy & Data > Export My Data to create a readable copy of supported information;
use Manage or Delete Cloud Account to delete the cloud account and associated cloud data;
sign out while keeping local data on the device; and
delete separately any files or information you previously shared with another person, app, calendar, navigation service, or storage provider.

Adventure Checklist uses operating-system storage and permissions, HTTPS network connections, Firebase security rules, authenticated access, verified-email requirements for Groups, device attestation, and server-authorized sensitive Group actions to help protect information. No storage or transmission method can guarantee absolute security. Protect your device, email account, passwords, Group invitations, and exported files.
Adventure Cloud and external providers may process information in the United States, the European Economic Area, or other locations where their facilities or service providers operate. Those providers apply their own safeguards and terms to international data processing.
Adventure Checklist is a general-audience planning tool and is not directed to children under 13. A child under 13 should not create an Adventure Cloud account or share personal information without the involvement of a parent or legal guardian. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Adventure Cloud, contact the developer so the issue can be reviewed and addressed.
This policy may be updated when the app, its providers, supported platforms, or legal requirements change. Material changes will be reflected by revising the effective date and publishing the current version at the app's public privacy-policy URL.
