Been a while, hasn't it? - May 27th, 2024.
After working on another project for a while, I finally hit a stopping point and can now continue working on SELFLESS.
Amazingly, I managed to get the prologue done! I had the entire script for the prologue written on March 21st, 2022.
You could consider the fact that it's taken me more than two years to implement it into the game a major slowdown,
but I consider it a step into more interesting territory.
Now that the prologue is done, we can finally get into the MEAT of the game, the Paranormal Anomaly Association Laboratory (PAAL).
This is where the majority of the game will take place.
Story-wise, I already have everything pretty much mapped out:
How it will start, what characters we meet in there, and how it ends.
All the in-between stuff is still up in idea-land but the gameplay aspects of the area may end up fleshing out the story in more ways than one.
I've also made the conscious decision of lowering down the white-coloring of the terrain graphics.
I don't want to blind my players nor do I want to confuse anyone with the game's visuals.
The darkened terrain will allow the characters and other objects to be seen easier.
Original Graphics
Darkened Graphics
With this change, you can see how much of a difference it makes to the game.
It will also make a difference for players since I can understand that looking at black and white for a while can wear one's eyes out (including mine sometimes).
Obviously since the game's graphics are not final in any way, I may end up going the original Gameboy route by having more than just two colors for everything.
I have considered attempting to reconstruct SELFLESS in a different engine before finishing the implementation of the prologue.
But now that it's done and I can finally move onto the core of the game, it may take serious reconstruction if I want to follow through with that idea.
Until then, I will continue using RPG Maker XP to develop the game.
