Brief Explanation
Since Ao Oni recently got a remake, released on Steam and Switch, and features a new English translation,
I got excited and bought the game immediately when it came out (it was on sale at launch for about half the price).
What I ended up finding was pretty exciting for me, as a translator,
so I ended up going through the remake's text, line-by-line, and adapting the text into the original 6.23.
Ao Oni 2024's Localization was handled by a company named, "Wit One Inc."
Hence why their name is in the title of this project.
For full disclosure, no I did not get paid nor do I work with Wit One Inc.
I am just a fan that enjoyed the new translation and wanted to do something fun and interesting with it.
For those that came here, wondering about my opinions of Ao Oni 2024, feel free to read below.
For my thoughts on the remake itself
Since LiTMUS was involved in the development of both remakes (mobile app and 2024 release),
I will say that while I think the 2024 remake is definitely a step up from the mobile counterpart,
both remakes suffer from a bootleg-like quality that makes it hard to outshine the original.
The graphics, the sounds, the music, and so on feel like a tiny downgrade to what we get in noprops' original version from 2011.
Although I'd be lying if I said I didn't get excited when the 2024 remake was announced.
Ever since Ib managed to make its way onto Steam and Switch through Playism,
I always wondered if Ao Oni would get similar treatment, and then it did...! Sort of.
Anyways, enough ranting about the game's quality.
For my thoughts on the English Translation
To my surprise, the English Translation in the 2024 was actually extremely similar to my translations!
Obviously they weren't 100% exact, but they were so close that I kept getting excited whenever I saw a similarity or a line that was exactly the same.
Although, while I was doing this project, I did notice a couple blunders here and there (especially a really atrocious typo in Ai Mode, my god).
For those blunders, I ended up fixing them in the project.
Also, if there's some confusion regarding the text for the ending being different in my project compared to 2024,
that's because the ending text in 2024 just IS different from the original, both in Japanese and English.
I'm not sure why they decided to change the ending monologue, the one in the original was fine as it was,
and since I'm adapting the text into the original version of the game,
it wouldn't make much sense for the text to be heavily different from the original.
So I adapted that portion as best as I could to what the text was in the original Japanese version of 6.23.
Anyways, thank you for reading and have fun with the translation!
