Step 2: Visit our shelter during adoption hours (Monday-Friday 2-6 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). When you arrive, you will first be asked to fill out our Shelter Adoption Application with your information. You may also pre-fill our Shelter Adoption Application ahead of time online to save time when you are at the shelter. Your application will be processed after you meet the animal.

Step 4: When you have selected the right animal for you, our Adoptions Team will run your Adoption Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you will participate in an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their known history and medical records.

What else to expect: Animals who are already spayed/neutered and past their stray hold (if applicable) can often go home with you the same day. Pick-up arrangements for unaltered animals and/or animals still on a stray hold will be made during your adoption class.

Step 2: Fill out our Foster Adoption Application with your information. To meet animals in foster homes, your application must be approved first. You will receive an email from our shelter or the foster when this step is complete. Please understand that this may take a few days and that filling out the application does not guarantee you will be able to adopt the animal.

What else to expect: Our foster families are volunteers who take care of our animals while maintaining their own busy lives! This means that adopting through a foster home is often a longer process than visiting the animals in our shelter.

Step 3: If the cat is the right match for your family, the Offsite Adoptions Team will take you through the next steps, which include filling out and approving your Adoption Application and completing an adoption class where you will learn all of the details about your new adopted family member, including their medical records.

In order to adopt, you must be at least 18 years old, provide proof of a current address, and have a current photo ID. Potential adopters must interact with the animals they are interested in and complete an adoption application. Once a selection has been made, applicants meet with a BARCS Adoption Counselor.

As of now, our services encompass vaccinations, preventatives, and online pharmacy services (coming soon). However, we do not currently offer veterinary care for injured or unwell pets, nor do we provide spaying or neutering services. Adoption fees are charged to help us offset some of our costs for caring for the thousands of animals that enter our doors each year. All animals are spayed or neutered, microchipped, given vaccinations appropriate for their age at the time of adoption, treated for parasites, and given flea/tick protection. In addition, dogs (6 months or older) are tested for heartworm.

You can drop into the shelter to browse some of our available animals during the shelter's open hours. We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

The adoption fee for a dog, cat or other animal includes vaccinations, microchip, and spay or neuter if not already altered when it came to the care center. Check our website and social media to find out about any adoption promotions during which fees are discounted. Note that the adoption fee does not include dog or cat license fees, which are minimal but mandatory and vary depending on the city or area where you live.

In those instances, adoption is reserved for the 389 Adoption Partners registered with DACC. These are 501(c)(3) nonprofits that operate to help adopt animals from shelters. If the kittens appear healthy but the mother has not returned, please consider fostering the kittens in your home until they are old enough to be adopted (approximately six to eight weeks). DACC can provide kitten fostering kits for kittens found in our service areas. You can also call our outreach helpline at 661-575-2812 to register the found kittens as a finder foster and get veterinary medical care for them. If you are unable to keep the kittens as a foster volunteer, make an appointment with your local animal care center to discuss other options. What should I do if I find a lost pet?Lost pets are more likely to be reunited with their owner if they stay in the area they are found. If you find a stray cat or dog, post fliers in the area, and on community apps like Next Door, Ring and Facebook. Only one application is accepted per animal. In many cases, our pets can go home the same day they are adopted, so please come prepared with a leash and collar if you are adopting a dog, or with a pet-safe

carrier if you are adopting a cat, rabbit, or another small animal.

Service members with at least 190 days in the service are welcome to utilize this partnership. You could adopt for free if you are looking to adopt one of the following: a dog or cat at least 2 years of age; a dog or cat with special needs; a dog or cat that has been homeless for 6 months+; or a dog 40+ pounds. Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) has announced two upcoming fall events. The first is the shelter's annual "Furry Fall Festival" followed by its annual "Barktoberfest." Both events provide an opportunity for the community to meet available pets and become more familiar with OCAS services and programs.

Animals which have completed their "Stray Hold" time and have beenspayed/neutered and fully vaccinated are considered "ready-to-go." Any animalin a "ready-to-go" status can go home with you today. All "ready-to-go"adoptions are $20, unless otherwise noted.

We have many wonderful pets to adopt but know that adding a pet to your family is a big decision. All animals require training and commitment. Some pets can live well into their teens and many may have special medical needs as they get older, such as medication, frequent checkups, etc., just like people. Sometimes animals have a hard time getting adopted due to injuries or extensive care required. The pets listed here are available for licensed rescue organizations. Rescue organizations do not need an appointment to pick up the available pets.

Cobb County Ordinance gives Cobb County Animal Services the right to deny, limit the amount of adoptions by any individual, and to require adopters to sign an adoption agreement/contract with every adoption. This is for the safety of the animal being adopted.

No, animals such as fish, birds, ferrets, hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and reptiles are rarely turned into the shelter. When we do get these animals, we have rescue groups that take possession of them. These groups are very knowledgeable of the specific needs of these animals and they adopt them out from their rescue group.
