Many dogs and cats are located at our shelter at 111 W Hunting Park Ave., Philadelphia, PA. We also have many dogs and cats in foster care looking for homes. We generally do not have puppies available for adoption, and primarily have large breed dogs.

Please note that filling out an application does not place any kind of hold on an animal, nor does it guarantee an adoption. You will not be contacted after filling out an application; it will only be used if you come to the shelter for an animal you are interested in.

The Adopt-A-Highway Program is not a forum for advertising or public discourse. Please contact your local public works agency if you wish to adopt a county road or a city street that is not maintained by Caltrans.

Within a few short steps from your home or business, a storm drain is likely in need of your support. Anyone can adopt! Individuals, families, businesses, schools, and organizations of all types such as churches, clubs and sports teams, who feel they can effectively and reasonably monitor a drain.

You can drop into the shelter to browse some of our available animals during the shelter's open hours. We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Hundreds of volunteers across Oakland have adopted storm drains to help their neighborhoods prepare for rainstorms. It doesn't take much to keep a storm drain clear. A little volunteer effort goes a long way in helping Public Works maintain over 13,000 storm drains to reduce flooding and prevent pollution of our waterways. When you sign up to Adopt a Drain, you become eligible to borrow City tools and supplies, and you will receive the City's rain alert notifications.

To complete an adoption, you need to provide a form of ID to be able to sign our adoption contract. Our contract ensures you will provide proper care for the animal and have not been convicted of animal cruelty. Our adoption fees vary per species and age (see Adoption Fees section in the sidebar for more information). At the time of signing a contract, you may also be asked to sign disclaimers that are specific to the animal you are adopting regarding findings from our medical or behavior teams. You will be provided with a copy of our contract and a copy of any disclaimers you signed at time of adoption. We can provide a leash or cardboard carrier to help you get home if you do not already have one. We also provide a sample size of the food your new pet has been eating, as well as any current medications with instructions to administer them. There are many great offers included from our partners when you adopt! Once you finalize your adoption, your new pet is officially yours!

As is the standard adoption protocol, animals are available on a first come, first served basis following interaction with the pet. animal services does not offer any holds for pets in advance of visiting the shelter in person.

Please be advised the shelter concludes adoption interactions 15 minutes prior to close, to allow sufficient time for completion of adoption paperwork. visitors aiming to visit the shelter near end of day are encouraged to do so at least 30 minutes prior to close.

Animal Services instead recommends slow and controlled introductions between newly adopted pets and resident pets, after keeping them apart for at least a week to allow the new pet adequate time to decompress.

Orange County Animal Services operates on a first come, first served basis to provide an equal opportunity to all interested adopters. We do not offer holds; we handle adoption paperwork following interaction with the pet.

Our adoption contract requires adopters to keep newly adopted animals separate from resident pets for at least a week, to provide time for decompression. This helps the new pet adjust to the home and can better help friendships form among the animals. We also require adopters take their new pet to a veterinarian of their choosing, and at their expense, within 72 hours of adoption for a full screening. This helps begin the relationship between pet, owner and healthcare provider that will be beneficial for years to come.

Animal Services may disqualify an individual for adopting if they have recent animal-related citations, previous convictions for animal cruelty or neglect, have recently returned or surrendered a pet or have already adopted several pets within a short timeframe. Each situation is handled on a case-by-case basis following review of the information in our system.

If you ultimately decide you cannot keep the pet, he or she can be returned to our shelter. If you live outside of Orange County and it has been more than 30 days since adoption, you will need to surrender the pet to your local shelter.

Orange County Animal Services is proud to have an active foster care program and is always seeking to recruit new foster parents to the team. One must first register as a foster parent and attend online orientation before becoming eligible to foster. Once on board, the shelter sends out emails for select pets in need of foster care, those that are too young for adoption, sick, injured or in need of short-term socialization help. Most of the pets in need of foster care are cats and kittens.

Orange County Animal Services is thrilled to partner with VCA Animal Hospitals for the "Healthy Start" certificate program. This offer is available to every person who adopts a pet from Orange County Animal Services and includes a complimentary first health exam, within 14 days of adoption, at a VCA Animal Hospital. With multiple VCA locations through the Central Florida region, this is an excellent offer to adopters to help ensure their new pets are off on the right foot.

Adoption hours: Monday - Friday: 1 pm - 5:30 pm. Saturday and Sunday: 11 am - 3:30 pm. All adopters must be at least 18 years old and provide a current, valid ID. Adoptions must be done in person. We cannot hold animals via phone or email. Adoptions are on a first come, first served basis. You do not have to live in Harris County to adopt from us. PLEASE BRING A COLLAR AND LEASH OR A PET CARRIER.

Once you have an idea of what type of pet fits your lifestyle, please make an adoption appointment. Adopting a pet is a serious, lifelong commitment and our counselors will be happy to help you find and select the right pet for you.

Harris County Pets offers cats ready for adoption at certain Petco and Pet Supermarket locations. Adopters will be considered on a first come, first served basis. Adoptions can be processed at the store location, but you will need to email foster@countypets.com so we can arrange to have someone meet you at the store to process the adoption.

All animals placed in our adoption program are evaluated for health and temperament. Because the animals in our facility are often stray animals, with no known medical or behavior history, it is possible that some may not show signs of illness or behavior until several weeks after adoption. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to take your new pet to your veterinarian as soon as possible to follow up on all necessary vaccinations.

Should your new pet become ill, we do offer a two-week health guarantee for adoption animals if that animal has seen a veterinarian within the first 72 hours of the adoption. The adoption fee can not be refunded, but you can choose another pet within six months of the return.

Generally, the adopting group agrees to pick up litter from both sides of a highway for a two-mile section at a minimum of four times per year. However, each segment has its own special needs. A few segments may be longer or shorter than two miles or they may be in an area that doesn't need to be picked up more than twice in a year. Some groups have adopted several sections of highway. e24fc04721
