To stop the Acrobat Reader DC 32-bit application from automatically upgrading to the 64-bit version, create the following registry key before the first launch of the application as described in the help page -acrobat-reader-dc-migration-to-64-bit.html

For me Acrobat Pro would not instal because it said, a more capable function was already installed. I hadn't realised the free reader had become more functionally useful. However, I use Acrobat Pro to scan documents to pdf. The supposedly more capable app can't interface with my scanner. I will now uninstall reader and hope to install Acrobat Pro.

There are work rounds but nowhere as efficient.

Why we had to have the last 3 weeks of pain, it would have been nice that all the RDS are going to auto break adobe. Without warning and then keep doing that unless the system has all updates turned off.

@Hall Computer5FB0 I am not sure what's the exact workflow which you have tried. It might be possible that there are some stale registries on your machine causing the issue. I would suggest you use first uninstall the existing application. Then run the AcroCleaner tool ( or you could simply delete the entire registry hive for [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat] and [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader] ). Then please install the 32 bit reader and before the first launch, run the above registry. This should fix your issue. If not, we can connect to debug the issue on your machine.

I have to ask... what's the point of going out of my way to purposefully download the 32-bit reader when Adobe is just going to F me and update to the all in one 64-bit? I CAN'T USE THE 64 BIT. This is Infuriating!

We are still having issues with Adobe updating from 32bit to 64bit. We are IT for Dental offices and their software will not work with Adobe 64. We have tried to do the Registry fix, disable adobe update services, and disable adobe update in the task scheduler. It still finds a way to update and sometimes within seconds of installing the 32-bit version. Can anyone shed any lite on this?

We are having the same issue here on all 100 PC's. Everything prints except adobe reader 64 bit. No error doesn't even ghet to the printer queue. I uninstalled 64 bit and put in 32 bit but it updates to 64 bit shortly after. Are you aware of the problem and are you developing a fix?

I have some experience using VBA, and I am interested in using "Adobe Acrobat 10.0 Type Library" to be able to open the adobe reader app within VBA and manipulate or extract information in adobe acrobat reader pdf files.

I was able to run this procedure, but only with adobe acrobat pro, which I had to get by getting the adobe creative cloud subscription. It will not work with the adobe acrobat reader, which is the free edition.

Hi, any news on this topic?

Looks like the registry key is the only way to determine whether this is a paid version or not - this really does not help us with management of adobe...

In our case, we can see a pretty close number of installations vs assigned licenses for Acrobat pro:

"Acrobat DC (2022) Continuous Pro"

Going 64 bit is really benefitial for certain types of software, for example file compression software, antiviruses etc that use lots of memory and CPU cycles. I will get around to nuking 64 bit reader, but I wish it had worked especially since Quentin on this list earlier had said he had no issues.

I know that this can be fixed by changing the name of the "server" in the viewer output profile. This is how I have fixed it every time before. Currently I have it as "acroviewR21", which has worked this year until today. Usually it can be fixed just by updating the year, but since it is still 2021 (as is my version of acrobat reader DC), I am really not sure what to do. I have tried various permutations of the capitalization to no effect. I have tried making it 22 with no effect.

Hi Rakesh,

I had verified on my end as well, it looks like both Kill process and the other option what mukesh(Task Kill) mentioned was not killing the adobe Reader.

So I tried closing (AcroRd32.exe) under Details in Task manager manually to understand the behavior. I got pop up some thing like this.

"If an open program is associated with this process, It will close and you will lose any unsaved data. If you end a system process, It might result in system instability. Are sure you wan to continue."(Below article related this exception)

If the package fails on Windows 8.1 or earlier, this might be due to the installation of kb2919355 (which is a dependency of this package) if your system is not up-to-date. This KB requires a reboot of the system before the adobereader package installs successfully.

Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is a free PDF reader program developed by Adobe Inc. for Windows, Mac and Android operating systems. The DC term present in its name stands for Document Cloud which is a cloud service provided by Adobe to allow users to work on their PDF documents from anywhere. It also allows users to access and save their files in various cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.

I have 32-bit reader on my PCs which are not connected to net. When I download the adobe from get.adobe.com/reader/ it wants to connects to internet. in the setup folder there are no files which I can use to install on remote PCs.

the acrobat 9.0 support AES 256 bits encryption. Does any one know what Hash function did they use to generate the encryption key? Is that SHA-256? The old AES 128 bit encryption use MD5 Hash, which only support 128 bit has value.

BTW, who know where can we get a copy of Adobe 1.8(acrobat 9.0) spec.

On this server we recently installed the 64-bit version of Adobe since it's where the industry is moving to; however, we then discovered that once Adobe "upgrades" itself from Reader mode to Acrobat mode all of our reader only users cannot access the product.

PDF Reader and Editor on the same computer is a must. I use 5-6 computers every day, and open several PDFs every day too. At the same time I also edit, convert or export a PDF a few times a week. In periods I use PS, PR, LR and ID on either my home computer, laptop, workshop computer or one of the office computers. It's really a hassle having to log in and out only to open a random PDF, and even more so if you have to annotate or sign one. It doesn't make any sense for Adobe not to promote using both plain reader and pro versions on the same box. Appears very backwards. There might be a technical hitch in the way, but it must be possible for Adobe developers to get around it. Please Adobe Santa, can I have it for xmas?

Acrobat Reader is a type of freeware developed by Adobe systems as a .pdf reader (Portable Document Format). Acrobat Reader automatically installs a plug-in for Netscape Navigator allowing users to view .pdf forms through their web browser.

The Adobe Reader 64-bit is a reliable pdf reader and editor, but it is also one of the costlier options. Despite its exorbitant price, Adobe pdf Reader online download, a program that has been available for decades, is often regarded as the gold standard.

In this scenario, numerous pdf editing apps are still available for mobile and desktop users. Thanks to the interface's streamlined simplicity, using the system is a snap. Whether they are kept on your computer or the cloud, you can get to your files quickly and effortlessly. Regarding PDF readers, Adobe Reader 64-bit is unmatched in quality and functionality and provides more options for personalization within Windows than its rivals.

When compared to the Adobe Reader 64-bit app for Windows, WPS Office's free trial version provides more navigation and editing options, such as the ability to hide the menu bar to help the user focus on the text at hand, the ability to expand the window to fill the screen, the ability to activate an auto-reader to have the text read aloud, and the ability to revert to a previous version of the text for simple editing. Free functionality like electronic signature capture and review and form filling is available in the downloadable free trial version of WPS Office online. 17dc91bb1f
