Civil engineering is an ancient profession, with civil engineers responsible for designing and overseeing the construction of vital infrastructure. Technologists support civil engineers by using drafting and design tools to realize the engineers' visions.
Civil engineers and their technological teams are involved in constructing everything from office buildings and airports to sewage plants and transportation systems, utilizing CADD (computer-aided design and drafting).
Computer Aided Design (CAD) aids in the engineering process, including creation, modification, analysis, or optimization of a design. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software facilitates the digital manufacturing process. By interfacing the CAD-designed product with CAM software, one can determine the most efficient manufacturing method. CAD software also allows for product analysis by applying constraints like load, fixed ends, pressure, etc. Additionally, there are other Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) software options for precise product analysis.
Autodesk Revit is a building information modeling software for various professionals, developed by Charles River Software in 1997, renamed Revit Technology Corporation in 2000, and acquired by Autodesk in 2002. It enables users to design buildings and structures in 3D, annotate models with 2D drafting elements, and access building information from the model's database. Revit supports 4D building information modeling.
