Her pieces will stop moving if they are separated for too long, in which case they will regenerate. If she reattaches the pieces before they go still, then their time limit will reset.

The regeneration ability of her Quirk is very exhausting for her, which is why she prefers to recall as many of her body parts back as possible in order to conserve her energy.

She also has numerous adaptations to allow for the function of her quirk; she has vestigial "venom sacs" that work to produce and spread high-power painkillers through her body to the site of splits in order to prevent her ability from destroying her nerves. She's also capable of cutaneous respiration, which allows her split off parts to remain alive for a period of time away from the main body. The split parts usually grow a layer of skin around any "open" edges, but this is just to prevent bleeding out.
