The Australasian Development Economics Workshop (ADEW) is an annual gathering of development economists from Australia and around the world. ADEW provides a forum for researchers to present new work, exchange ideas, and engage in discussions on some of the most pressing economic and social challenges facing developing countries.
The workshop brings together researchers and policy professionals working across a broad range of development economics topics, including poverty and inequality, education, health, gender, labour markets, migration, agriculture, environmental sustainability, institutions, and economic growth. By encouraging rigorous research, constructive feedback, and dialogue between academia and the policy community, ADEW aims to advance our understanding of development challenges and contribute to evidence-based policymaking.
In 2027, the Economics Discipline Group at Deakin University will host ADEW on Thursday 10 and Friday 11 June 2027, with support from Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The workshop will continue its tradition of fostering scholarly exchange, building research networks, and creating opportunities for collaboration among development economists in Australia and internationally.
