In 2017 I found a dark teal, fur trimmed, wool coat in a thrift store. It was much too large for me, but it sparked an idea: could I turn it into a luxurious dagged hood? I cut the body off right at the bottom of the armscyth, did a small amount of reshaping, and refinished the lining and bottom edge. I cut the daggs out of the removed length of body and reattached them to the edge of the hood. Finally, I decided to embroider the daggs to make them stand out more and I continue to add embroidery to this day for fun.
I have relatively few pictures of this project since I began before I knew the virtues of documentation, but they are presented here.
Since it's first completion, I continue to make improvements to this hood. In 2021, I replaced the two existing buttons with a row of more period fabric buttons. I think this makes it look even more medieval and was a quick change. In the future, I plan to add more embroidery at my leisure.
