Anyone in need of food from DuPage County can come for food.  You will have to register as a PRC client. Come to People’s Resource Center during food pantry hours to register. Youth do not need a guardian to get food.

All clients are greeted by a volunteer, who gives each car a number, explains how the Food Pantry works, and answers any questions.  Volunteers shop for each client, then bring the food and other groceries out to the parking lot, and load in client cars in a safe, contact-free environment. 

Any person listed as a household member can pick up food, as long as they have the household’s PRC card, photo identification, and proof of residency a utility bill, rent stub, etc.). If no one from your household is available to pick up food, clients are able to designate a trusted individual to serve in their place. This person must have a completed proxy form on file in order to pick up food for the household.

The Dad's Engagement Coordinator empowers young dads to be the best version of themselves and build connections with their families. Pat can visit with participants weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. Visits last around an hour and topics include: child development, parenting skills, goal setting, budgeting, healthy relationships and coping skills. Pat can assist with finding community resources and with tasks such as finding a job and finding housing.

Project HireEd - EARN AND LEARN

Apprenticeship programs provide hands-on training to an employee while gaining necessary competency. They offer skills in a particular occupation, help connect to a career pathway, and combine on-the-job training with appropriate instruction. It is commonly referred to as an “Earn and Learn” model. Currently connecting students to opportunities in manufacturing, applied technology, horticulture, and information technology.

Project Hire-Ed is a four-year program – two years to complete the coursework and two more years working with the employer. It is open to individuals 18 years old and older who are current College of DuPage (COD) students, career changers, veterans, unemployed, under-employed, recent high school or GED graduates or current high school students. There’s even an opportunity for high school students to earn dual-credit through the program. High-schoolers can take the seminar class, as well as two technical courses, to get started before they graduate (but they must meet reading, writing and math requirements). 

The initial seminar course is $138. Students then interview with local employers.  If a student receives an offer from an employer, they will be paid as they learn.

Symbol students are trained by industry professionals with decades of  experience. Students learn to apply their hands-on practical skills in our state-of-the-art machine shop. After training, students typically find employment as  CNC machine operator, CNC machine setup, CNC machine programmer and other high-demand, high-paying jobs in advanced manufacturing. Students receive job placement assistance. 

The applicant must be 16 or older and have basic writing, math and English conversational skills. Morning and Evening classes available. Classes are part-time two days a week, so students can still work full time while taking the 4 month course.

While in residence, participants learn skills and develop personal habits that will transfer to their independent housing situation after graduation. Residents are responsible for contributing toward the cost of their care through part-time employment that covers a program fee and their personal expenses. They are supported by their case manager to access community resources and obtain services for themselves such as career, education, medical and mental health services and the spiritual care necessary for their well-being.

The YWCA Medical and Criminal Justice Program helps to reduce the trauma and help with the healing process. Advocates will provide emotional support and information during the medical and criminal justice procedures to sexual assault survivors, non-significant others, and non-offending family members. Legal advocates provide support through police and court proceedings.
