The library bug/issue affects PC and Mac users equally - it's not a platform issue, it's an issue with their library/authentication system, Native Access. It has nothing to do with the M1, and NI have posted some solutions on the above thread in the short term.

If money is not such a big issue, you could "freeze" your library setup on a drive so you know those will always work with Kontakt 6 and open up your old projects a couple of years from now (assuming you also have a computer and operating system that can do it!). This is actually the biggest issue long term.

Straylight comes with over 360 sounds, including strings, glass, stone, membranes, and many more for the granular and sample modules. You will find over 380 carefully crafted presets in the library, categorised into Atmosphere, Lead, Transition, Pad, Keys, Effects, Subs and Pulses. All wrapped up in an smooth intuitive and easy-to-use interface.

Things are a bit messier when a library has zillions of NKI files rather than snapshots but its still manageable. Its worth noting that once a instrument is loaded the "next instrument" button scroll through the instruments in the the original folder.

Edit: look at my next post, you'll see my 'Rigid Audio' folder in the Quickload left column where mine appear in QuickLoad.

To use the Snapshots there's a song & dance you do once you've loaded that library (sorry don't recall the steps off the top of my head).

Once you load the Snapshots I'm pretty sure you have to save the library (think Ctrl-S works) to keep them there for the next time.

Correct, and the cost to developers in order to license their libraries is not cheap. This is one of the reasons most libraries you buy that are compatible with Player also cost a lot more money. They pass that cost on to the customer. I've noticed more than one free library lately with license keys and a few cheaper ones as well. Pretty crazy they eat the cost since I have an idea what the loss is there.

You can do hacks to get your unauthorized library to show in the library section but there's no guarantee that it'll stay there or work after future Kontakt updates.

I've got the Clara library that the developer modded to show in library section and for Kontakt 5.x it worked (though it always had an unactivated warning), with Kontact 6.x it shows in the Library section as needing repair and you can't run it from the library section.

Dear all, thanks for your suggestions.

I googled some more, with [kontakt 5 vsl] and [kontakt vsl versus vsl].

I found some other articles, on:

It seems likely that VSL sold the original samples to NI, without any programming or scripts.

And not all the articulations or dynamics. And not all the instruments, such as Piccolo or Contra-bassoon.

NI put them in their own ncw-format so that they can't be used in other programs.

But I simply recorded the samples in wav through my soundcard by playing them in Kontakt one by one. Piece of cake. And lossless.

Then I could closely study and edit the samples in my (still very useful) Cool Edit 2000.

With these edited samples I easily programmed my own clarinet in Kontakt 5.

Kontakt not only contains a VSL library, but also a Legacy VSL.

Suggestions exist that the Legacy sample set differs from the regular one.

However, I cannot hear or see any difference between them.

It looks like the samples have remained the same for quite a while.

Besides that SOS mentions there is a legato articulation in the Kontakt Legacy set.

I don't see that, unless they mean the "Release Trigger" instrument.

(My recently built clarinet plays a convincing legato, just with the same release as in sustained mode.)

In the mean time I have become very curious how the Vienna Player makes a decent clarinet out of these (I think) sub-optimal tones.

I'm thinking about buying the Woodwinds SE, which are now in promotion.

When I do, I will keep you posted.
