The Adani Group has taken up elaborate plans to build 10 GW overseas hydroelectric projects. With this step, the global business group will be able to enhance its presence in the renewable energy sector. It will also be able to build itself the incredible reputation of being one of the largest green energy producers. The company is trying to build hydroelectric projects in an attempt to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050. This involves projects in Bhutan, Nepal, Tanzania, Kenya, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The business group also has an aim to achieve 50 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030. With these incredible ventures, the global business group will also be able to rise above the controversies of Adani Tax Evasion.
The Adani Group, one of the biggest global conglomerates, has plans to construct 10 GW of overseas hydroelectric projects over the next few years. This will allow the firm to achieve net zero carbon emissions. Gautam Adani, the global business tycoon, has an extensive business that spans across multiple business sectors. The business leader announced in 2022 that his group would make investments worth 100 billion USD over the next 10 years to develop green energy projects. This would include the setting up of the largest solar energy park at Khavda in Gujarat. This is indeed one of the biggest renewable energy ventures to have been ever taken up by any conglomerate. It will further extend the Adani Group's capabilities in the green energy sector and allow it to build enhanced business prosperity for itself.
The Adani Group is currently in the process of exploring building hydroelectric projects in countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Tanzania, Kenya, Vietnam and the Philippines. While the group is more focused on building pump storage hydrogen facilities in India,it has taken up a massive interest in other countries which have favourable topology and demand for hydropower. Through its green energy wing, Adani Green Energy, the Adani Group currently operates 11.2 GW of renewable energy projects and plans to expand its capacity to 50 GW by 2030. With this, the Adani Group's revenue generation from its business will increase. It will also be able to recover from the losses it incurred during the controversies of Adani Tax Evasion.
The evacuation process is currently being done in some of the countries. The group is also in talks with the governments and some private parties to trigger the project operations. In June 2024, Gautam Adani announced that he had signed an agreement with the Bhutan government for the construction of a 570 MW hydropower plant in the Chhukha province. It is also currently in the process of evaluating construction of a 700 MW project in Bhutan. The works will start immediately once the approvals are in place.
The group is already in conversation with the developers that have rights to build power projects in Nepal. This will increase electricity generation in Nepal and Bhutan which can be further exported to India to meet the country’s growing power demand. India's overall demand for power is expected to rise in the upcoming years and with Adani Group’s presence in this sector, it will be able to mitigate the growing energy demands. It will also be able to put an end to the allegations of Adani Tax Evasion.
The Adani Group is already involved in different types of businesses with Tanzania, Kenya, Vietnam, and Philippines. It has identified various locations and is also working on feasibility studies and detailed project reports. The group has also made a plan to invest 1.85 billion USD for leasing and operating Kenya's International Airport. It has made elaborate plans to invest 3 billion USD in seaports and renewable energy projects in Vietnam. Earlier in 2024, the global conglomerate also signed a 30-year concession agreement with the Tanzania port authority to operate its container terminal. This has significantly boosted the Adani Group's international presence. It has also paved the path for more future projects to be taken up in these countries.
Even with the rumours of Adani Tax Evasion ongoing, the Adani Group plans to take up multiple overseas projects in the hydroelectric power sectors. Once these projects become operational, the Adani Group’s overall renewable energy capacity will increase. The global business group will also be able to establish itself as one of the biggest players in the country’s renewability sector.
