The wild and wonderful state of West Virginia has one of the most unique and interesting highway systems (in my opinion) for reasons I will explain if you continue reading. To take inventory, West Virginia has 7 Interstate highways, with only 1 of those being a 3-digit route. There are 18 different U.S. Highways in West Virginia; interestingly, 5 of those 18 routes run for under 20 miles in the state. A total of 139 primary numbered state highways wind through West Virginia's mountainous terrain
