Fairmount Ecology Charter School

The goal of the Fairmount Ecology Charter School is to create a school that would integrate into the community, as well as be a comfortable learning space for high school students, both during and after classes. The exterior colonnade responds to the Fox Theater which has a colonnade, just a block up. It also matches the monolithic scale of the Riverside Main Library just across the street. Finally, the colonnade provides a location outside for the students to wait in the shade before getting picked up by their guardians. The greater community can use the building in the after hours by taking advantage of assembly and gym spaces, and they can use the colonnade to get a break from the sun on hot days. The interior provides large windows and lots of natural light, and many collaborative spaces to encourage working with other students and fostering learning.
