Sonique Phillip

About the creator of "Science, Technology, and Black History,": 

My name is Sonique Phillip. Originally from the island of Antigua, I graduated from SMU in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. My research experience is somewhat diverse, thanks to Dr. Digdon and her exciting project. I first became a part of this research when I was hired as a Research Assistant for the summer. From there, with Dr.Digdon’s guidance, I was given the freedom to explore my own subtopic within the History of Science & Technology network. I am passionate about highlighting the works of those who often get overlooked. Therefore, I decided to focus my research on typically underrepresented groups within the science community, particularly women and black persons. The “Science, Technology and Black History” exhibit focuses on pioneers in the respective fields who paved the way for the world we live in now. I hope that this exhibit serves as one more step towards giving those who have shaped our futures the recognition they deserve.
