Aug 2 2022: I want to thank all the visitors and meeting old and new friends  at my booth in Bronte at the outdoor art fair on Aug 1!!

My Philosophy

One of the unique  aspects of my work is characterized by deeply engraved free form grid lines. The painting is done on a special ground which I carve into. This creates it's own dynamic within the painting. The engraved grid not only fragments the surface, it gives a sort of motion of it's own. It alters the image with the viewers perspective and distance. The grid both echoes the composition and tries to assert it's own identity.

The other aspect is abstraction and realism together to create a kind of ambiguity. I try to create a vague sense of recognition which slows down the viewer and encourages them to suspend judgment long enough to get drawn into the painting. I love the idea of creating the feeling of something without explicitly defining the something.

All paintings are on cradled wood panels (except where noted). The medium is Acrylic.
