Is There a Rest-Frame in the Absolute Medium (AM) Model?

In Mishu’s Absolute Medium (AM) Model, the concept of motion is fundamentally different from conventional interpretations in Special Relativity (SR) and General Relativity (GR). In SR/GR, no preferred reference frame exists; all inertial frames are equivalent. In contrast, the AM Model introduces a *physical Medium* that fills all of space. This raises an important question: Does this imply the existence of an absolute rest-frame? This article explains the AM perspective on rest, motion, and frame invariance.
1. The Medium Defines a Physical Background
Unlike SR/GR, which deny any physical background, the AM Model asserts that all of space is permeated by a real, continuous Medium. This Medium has properties—elasticity, density gradients, flow patterns—and these properties exist regardless of the observer. Thus, the Medium itself provides a physical backdrop that can, in principle, define a preferred state of rest.
2. Rest Is Defined Relative to the Medium, Not Empty Space
In the AM Model, an object is at rest when it experiences no relative motion with respect to the Medium. If an object moves through the Medium, it experiences Intrinsic Kinetic Resistance (IKR), the AM-based origin of inertia. When an object is stationary relative to the AM, it experiences zero IKR related to linear acceleration and is considered to be in the absolute rest-frame.
3. Gravity Reveals the Local Medium Flow-Frame
The AM around massive bodies flows inward with velocity v_AM = √(gR). Objects within gravitational fields do not sit still relative to the medium unless they hover by applying force. Free-falling objects are *locally* at rest relative to the Medium—they move with the Medium’s own flow. Thus, gravitational free-fall represents a state of local AM rest, even though the object accelerates relative to distant coordinates. This matches observations but provides a physical mechanism absent in GR.
4. Cosmic Flow Defines Large-Scale Preferred Frames
At cosmic scales, the Medium forms rivers, vortices, and pressure gradients. Superclusters drift due to residual AM pressure (P_Λ). Each of these flows defines a local rest-frame. The overall cosmic rest-frame aligns with the large-scale AM flow pattern—the same frame that manifests as the CMB dipole in conventional cosmology, but here given a physical origin rather than emergent symmetry breaking.
5. Why the Rest-Frame Is Not Observable by Light
Even though the AM defines an absolute rest-frame, it cannot be detected using electromagnetic experiments (e.g., Michelson–Morley) because EM waves propagate as transverse modes in the Medium and do not change speed due to observer motion. Light’s behavior depends on AM structure, not observer velocity. Thus, the rest-frame exists physically but is hidden optically.
6. Matter Interactions Reveal the Rest-Frame Indirectly
Although light cannot detect the rest-frame, matter can. Accelerating relative to the AM produces IKR, generating inertial effects. Gravitational flow fields also reveal the Medium’s motion. Free fall, orbital paths, and galactic rotation curves reflect underlying AM flow-patterns. These AM-governed motions indirectly reveal the Medium’s rest-frame at every scale.
7. The Universal Rest-Frame: Not Observer-Dependent
In SR/GR, rest and motion depend on the observer. In the AM Model, rest is defined relative to the Medium itself and is therefore observer-independent. Two observers moving differently both reference the same Medium when describing rest versus motion. This gives the AM Model a universal, physically meaningful rest-frame—similar in spirit to classical ether theories but with fully modern, nonlinear elastic, and gravitationally consistent behavior.
