Be our director

We are looking for a front-line director for Metro Mix Chorus. This person will lead weekly rehearsals Monday evenings from 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm and take our chorus to the next level.

Desired Skills, Abilities and Characteristics of our future director include:

Knowledge of the barbershop genre and interest to continually learn the barbershop craft
Chorus conducting and leadership experience
Ability to plan and implement effective rehearsals
Knowledge of and ability to teach new music and vocal production with the goal to expand members' musical knowledge and skills
Strong vocal skills and musical background/education
Ability to collaborate with musical leaders to reach our goals
Confidence to make final decisions with respect to performances, including both music and production elements

A successful applicant will complete an audition comprised of directing/conducting the chorus in both an uptune and a ballad.

Who we are

Metro Mix Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines International, a non-profit, educational organization promoting four-part harmony, barbershop style, for women.

Metro Mix has been singing and entertaining in the Eastern Iowa area since 1964. Singing in one of America's original musical styles, the chorus has placed in the top five choruses at Regional Competition consistently throughout its history.

How we operate

Our Management Team provides effective administrative and fiscal leadership. The director and assistant meet monthly with the six elected team members.

Our Music Team offers extensive barbershop experience and provides capable musical leadership. The director, assistant, visual team leaders, section leaders and assistants meet monthly.

Metro Mix rehearses weekly on Mondays from 7:00 – 9:30 pm at the Clarion Hotel, 2525 N Dodge St, Iowa City, IA 52245.

Where we are

Metro Mix draws our members from a broad geographic area in Iowa. We come from communities in Central and Eastern Iowa to create music together. Some of our hometowns include: Iowa City, Coralville, Washington, Cedar Rapids, Marion, Walker, Solon, Fairfax, Grinnell, Riverside, Muscatine, Tipton, and Letts.
