Miyadakan Imperial Chancellor Oyama Yorikiyo has passed his government's 1922 Federal Budget, which would maintains the level of military spending from the previous federal budget, a move which indicates that he plans to continue the deployment of Miyadaka's military and navy in the eastern hemisphere, including along Ashanoran coasts and Ryumar's waters.
Miyadaka's Imperial Parliament has voted in favor of the Center Party's budget in a political maneuvering act by Imperial Chancellor Oyama. Political analysts in the country had been worried about the budget bill's future, as parties on the left complained about the military budget, while the right winged criticized it's lack of expansion in law and order. Though, it is the military that gained most people's attention, especially those in Arganorh, as it showed Miyadaka would continue it's military and naval deployments in the west - a move supported by politicians in Whitehall and the Rose Chateau.
"The Davintharians and Valaisians had hoped for continued Miyadakan defense spending and peacekeeping in Ashanor while the Arganorhans were focused on fighting the wars in the east" claims international correspondent Heiko Scheer. "In fact there were supposedly calls going back and forth between Whitehall and Okyoto Palace as the Davintharian Prime Minister, Eva Stewart, and the Miydakan Chancellor, Oyama Yorikiyo, tried to hammer out an agreement on the military future of the Miyadakans."
Since the Great War, Miyadaka has maintained a level of military presence across Ashanor, especially in former Xinhao colonies, while their navy operates bases along the coast of the western continent. This level of involvement militarily was encouraged by the central world, happy to have a stable ally in the region.
Though this power position has been called into question with the rise of the Xinhao Republic, and the pressure from left winged parties in the nation to direct military funding to economic programs in the wake of the 1917 Economic Crisis, though Centrist Chancellor Oyama Yorikiyo has been able to keep these parties at bay, continuing with his funding plans
Though questions remain over rather this battle over militarism can continue, with Miyadakan Federal Elections scheduled for the end of the year, Centre Party politicians have said in closed door meetings with reporters that they are worried how this will play out in the polls.
"I worry that the Centre Party could be seen as placating the Arganorhan powers, rather than pursuing our own national welfare" claimed one anonymous Centre Party staffer. "We have to make sure the people see this military budget as in their interests, as well as in the Arganorhan interest, if we are to succeed in the polls in Embertide."
Polls on the budget have not been taken, though even as Oyama's budget passed the Imperial Assembly, left winged protestors gathered outside the Okyoto Palace, calling for the government to instead spend the money on welfare increases and environmental protection, though these protests dispersed rather quickly and have not reemerged.
"I am not worried about the budget" said Chancellor Oyama in an interview with ABO News. "political stability on the Ashanoran continent is essential to Miyadaka's national security. We like to think, as an island nation, that what happens on the mainland does not effect us, but in fact everything that happens there will affect us here."
"Do you think that the people will see this as a national security move, and not as a placation of the Arganorhans?" ABO News asks him.
"No, because one thing the people need to understand is that Arganorhan interests and Miyadakan interests have been aligned for the past 20 years now." he says "In this world of globalism and interconnectedness, the idea that Miyadakan interests must always be independent of Arganorhan interests is unfounded in reality."
"But surely you can see the political issue this could be at election" ABO News asks.
"The elections are months away" he says "and I make decisions based on the welfare of the people, not based on populist notions of good or bad. The people will see that at election."
The Miyadakan military has confirmed they will continue their stationing of troops in rural Khudar, as well as upkeeping naval bases in the Au'tu Islands and the western coast of Ashanor, deployments the defense ministry has said began nearly 15 years ago, and now with the continued military budget, there is no end in sight for these deployed troops.
