Abstract:

In an industry, condition monitoring of gearboxes is an main part of enhancing production and reducing losses by extending the service life of gears. It is impossible to detect vibrations directly at near the sources of vibration produced by gearbox systems when monitoring them. Because access to the machine component to be monitored is limited, it is quite common to detect vibration at a distance from the equipment. The Fault diagnosis of a gearbox with a carburized spur gear is presented in this paper. Carburized gear teeth are more resistant to abrasion and wear. This thesis examines the fault vibration characteristics of a gear transmission with sequential localised gear tooth spalling and pitting from a theoretical and experimental standpoint The main characteristic that shows the health of the gears is time varying mesh stiffness (TVMS). A mathematical model is used to calculate TVMS using the potential energy approach of a carburized spur gear in this work. The TVMS of carburized and uncarburized spur gears is presented and analysed. The results reveal that at different pit length, carburized gear has a higher TVMS than uncarburized gear.
