Abhi Labs ("we," "us," or "our") built AbhiScan: PDF Document Scanner (the "App") as a premium, privacy-first utility. We recognize that your documents contain highly sensitive personal, financial, and professional information.

This Privacy Policy outlines our strict "Local-First" approach to data processing, detailing what information is accessed, how it is used, and the enterprise-grade measures we employ to protect your privacy.

1. Our "Local-First" Privacy Architecture

Unlike traditional scanning applications that offload document processing to third-party cloud servers, AbhiScan is engineered to operate almost entirely on-device.

• Zero Cloud Uploads: We do not own, operate, or rent servers to store your documents. Your scanned images, generated PDFs, and extracted text never leave your device unless you explicitly share them via third-party apps (e.g., email or messaging clients).

• On-Device Machine Learning: All document edge detection, image filtering (via custom OpenCV pipelines), and Optical Character Recognition (via Google ML Kit) occur entirely on your local hardware.

2. Information We Access and Process

To provide core scanning and search functionality, the App requires localised access to specific device features:

A. Camera & Image Data

• Purpose: The App requires Camera permissions to capture images of documents, ID cards, books, and barcodes.

• Processing: Images are processed locally. Intermediate image buffers are actively destroyed from device memory immediately after PDF generation to ensure data hygiene and strict memory efficiency.

B. Text Data (OCR & FTS4 Search)

• Purpose: To enable instant full-text search across your document library.

• Processing: Text is extracted silently in the background and stored in a localised, secure SQLite database entirely on your device. We do not transmit, monitor, or harvest this text.

C. Storage & File Access

• Purpose: To save completed PDFs to your device and to allow you to import external PDFs into the App’s viewer.

• Processing: The App reads and writes files locally utilising the standard Android Storage Access Framework.

D. Device Information & Technical Logs

• Purpose: To maintain optimal application performance and prevent crashes.

• Processing: We may utilize automated, anonymised crash reporting tools (such as Google Play Vitals or Firebase Crashlytics) exclusively to diagnose application instability and memory allocation errors. This data contains no personally identifiable information.

3. Information Collected by Third-Party Services (Advertising)

While your documents and personal files remain strictly on your device, we use third-party advertising networks to support the App's continuous development.

Google AdMob: We integrate Google AdMob to display carefully paced interstitial, native, and banner advertisements. To serve relevant ads and measure performance, AdMob automatically collects certain device-specific information, which may include:

• Advertising ID: A unique, user-resettable identifier for advertising provided by Google Play services.

• Device Information: IP address, device model, operating system version, and general network status.

• Usage Data: Interaction with ads to manage global frequency capping (ensuring ads do not interrupt your core workflow).

4. Data Retention and Account Deletion Policy

Because AbhiScan operates with a local-first architecture, we do not maintain user accounts or store your documents on external servers. Therefore, there is no remote account to delete.

You have absolute, immediate control over your data. You can execute a complete deletion of all your user data (including scanned documents, PDFs, and OCR text databases) at any time by:

1. Deleting the specific files within the App's interface.

2. Clearing the App's storage cache in your Android system settings.

3. Uninstalling the App completely from your device.

5. European Economic Area (EEA) and UK Users (GDPR)

If you are a resident of the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase any personal data collected (such as Advertising IDs). Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we rely on your explicit consent to serve personalised advertisements via Google AdMob.

You will be presented with a consent form via the User Messaging Platform (UMP) upon launching the App. You may withdraw this consent or modify your ad tracking preferences at any time through the App's settings or your device's global privacy settings.

6. California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA / CPRA)

Under the CPRA, California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete that information, and the right to opt-out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.

AbhiScan does not sell your documents, files, or personal data. However, our use of Google AdMob to serve personalized ads may constitute "sharing" of technical identifiers (such as your device's Advertising ID) under California law. You may opt-out of this sharing by resetting your Advertising ID or enabling "Opt out of Ads Personalisation" in your Android device settings.

7. Application Security Measures

We implement rigorous application-level security to protect your session data:

• Memory Management: Strict recycling of memory objects ensures no sensitive image data lingers in your device's RAM.

• Navigation Safety: All internal file paths are Base64 encoded before being passed through the application's navigation components to prevent unauthorised interception by malicious background processes.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is a professional utility and is not knowingly directed at children under the age of 13. We do not intentionally collect personally identifiable information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our technical architecture, Google Play Developer Policies, or legal requirements. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date" at the top.
