Hi, you’ve reached Abhinaba Banerjee’s website. The website is focused on my research work and interests.
A little bit about me, I am from Kolkata (City of Joy), India. I have spent a large part of my life in this culturally rich and happening city on the bank of the river Ganges. I thrive on great food, engrossing books, and great company. I am currently a Ph.D student in the Shu Chien-Gene Lay Department of Bioengineering at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
I'm curious to understand the biophysical landscape and cellular interactions in one of the highly invasive brain cancer types known as Glioblastoma (GBM). Specifically, I am studying cell adhesion-mediated intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms. I'm advised by Drs. Adam J. Engler and Frank Furnari.
Before joining UCSD, I worked as a research assistant on bioactive polymeric composite materials and was jointly associated with the Center of Healthcare Science and Technology and the Department of Aerospace and Applied Mechanics, IIEST Shibpur.
I received my B.Tech. Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology Shibpur (formerly known as Bengal Engineering College), India. My academic and research interests lie primarily in developing and studying biologically relevant soft materials using both experimental and computational methods. Sept 2021: Our work on understanding single-cell substrate interaction under external stimuli got accepted in the 'Medical & Biological Engineering & Computing' journal. To appear online soon [In Press].
Aug 2021: Gave an invited talk on the modeling of hydrogels in the context of tissue engineering at the Dept. of Aerospace and Applied Mechanics, IIEST Shibpur.
Jul 2021: Presented our work on modeling and characterization of HeLa cell-laden alginate composite biomaterial in the conference ICRTST-2021.
Apr 2021: Awarded the 'Prime Minister's Research Fellow' award by the MHRD, Government of India.
Mar 2021: Pre-print of our work on modeling-based prediction and optimization of mechanical characteristics of bioprinted scaffolds is now on ArXiv.
Feb 2020: Joined as a research assistant jointly at the CHST and the Dept. of AEAM, IIEST Shibpur.
Jan 2020: Ended employment at M. N. Dastur & Co. Pvt. Ltd. after a brief working stint of months as an engineering consultant.
Jun 2019: Completed B. Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (IIEST, Shibpur).
