In the Fundamentals of Human Performance Technology course, I was tasked with developing a performance improvement campaign to address the performance gaps of an organization of my choice. For my project, I decided to focus on the sales challenges faced by Bright School Online, a Singapore-based online education startup. Through a performance needs assessment, I identified the target outcome, Job One, and created a high-level design proposing instructional and non-instructional interventions to address the issues. Finally, the detailed design provided in-depth descriptions of two non-instructional interventions, namely the formative evaluation plans and the overall summative evaluation strategy.
the performance needs assessment aimed to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the organization's performance gaps and their underlying causes. This involved adopting a systemic approach to identify the factors and influences responsible for the gaps, including environmental and individual resources. Through this analysis, I identified Job One as the target outcome of the performance improvement campaign, which served as the foundation for the rest of the project assignments.
The high-level design document aimed to identify and explain a set of instructional and non-instructional interventions that could help achieve Job One, the targeted outcome identified in the Performance Needs Assessment. I proposed 9 interventions, out of which 8 were non-instructional interventions. The proposed interventions were first presented in a roadmap, which helped the sponsor evaluate the suggested solutions. Later in the document, the interventions were further elaborated, considering factors such as genre, medium, conventions, and which performance objectives were being targeted.
The purpose of this detailed design document is to serve as a comprehensive guide for designing the campaign. The document includes all the essential details that the design team needs to create interventions, along with formative assessment plans and instruments for evaluating the quality and effectiveness of the interventions. To assess the overall success of the performance improvement campaign, the document will conclude with a summative evaluation strategy.
Looking back at my experience working on this project, I feel that it was an excellent opportunity to apply the concepts and principles I learned in the Fundamentals of Human Performance Technology course. As a one-person project, I had to take on multiple roles, from conducting the performance needs assessment to designing the interventions and evaluation strategies. It was also a valuable experience that allowed me to hone my skills in project management and problem-solving. Overall, I feel proud of the work I accomplished and believe that the performance improvement campaign I developed could potentially address the sales challenges faced by Bright School Online.
