DECK OF CARDS

Setup/Equipment:

Need a deck of cards and area to exercise


Objective: Students will be performing a variety of exercises and movements that promote strength and endurance


Activity:

  • Choose 4 exercises that you will be performing (ex. squats, jumping jacks, sit-ups, push-ups, lunges, burpees, mountain climbers, etc.)

  • Assign each exercise that you choose to a suit in the deck of cards (write this down to help you remember)

    • Example

      • Hearts= Jumping Jacks

      • Spades= Sit-Ups

      • Diamonds= Burpees

      • Clubs= Lunges

  • Scatter a deck of cards face down

  • Student(s) will select a card from the pile and perform the corresponding exercise

  • The number of reps performed is decided by the number on the card (A=20 reps, J/Q/K=10 reps)

  • Take breaks in between exercises as needed

  • Continue activity for 15-20 minutes or until all cards are gone


Modifications:

  • With more than one person take turns selecting cards and rest while the other person performs their exercise

  • Select cards as a group and perform exercises together

  • Pair this game with a card game such as "War" or "Go Fish"
