Upcoming in our AAUP Chapter
Stay tuned for our legislative Forum (tentatively scheduled for Tuesday February 13, 2024, time TBA): We’ll hear from local representatives serving in the Missouri legislature about bills related to education proposed for the 2024 session, and we can share questions and opinions with them.
ICYMI
Find the recording of the November 1 General Faculty Meeting here. There were presentations from staff about the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision on affirmative action, and there were questions for President Choi from many of our AAUP executive committee members!
We enjoyed socializing at iTAP after the General Faculty Meeting and we’ll keep you posted on AAUP social events next semester!
Our Work in National Context
Faculty at California State University, the largest state university system in the country, are on strike for better pay and family leave; they are represented by their union the California Faculty Association.
The AAUP released a statement, Academic Freedom in Times of War. Our local AAUP chapter affirms the right of MU community members to freely and publicly express their views on issues such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in forms including, but not limited to demonstrations, lectures, presentations, and open letters.
