ICYMI
On April 10, we held our first Advocacy Day in Jefferson City. AAUP members met with lawmakers including Marlon Anderson (pictured below), Stephanie Hein, Adrian Plank, Greg Razer, David Tyson-Smith, and Kathy Steinhoff, and the chief of staff for Lauren Arthur. We shared this information below on academic freedom, which you are welcome to share with interested parties as well.
Our Work in National Context
AAUP held a National Day of Action on April 17, focusing on a “a unifying national message that links our local struggles with a set of demands we can fight for together, including publicly funded higher education for all, freedom to teach and learn, job security and fair pay, equity and racial justice, and democratic governance of our institutions.”
There’s an election in progress for leadership of AFT Local 6741, the collected “advocacy chapters” of AAUP, which don’t have bargaining rights in their institution (this includes our chapter). If you are an AAUP member, you should have received a paper ballot by mail. Incumbent president Irene Mulvey and others are running against Jorge Coronado and a slate of candidates associated with United Faculty for a Common Good. Ballots must be received by April 29.
