About the group leader
I am an Associate Professor in the Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) Department at IIT Kanpur, where I lead the Building Energy and Air-quality Research (BEAR) Laboratory. I also serve as an Editor of Building and Environment. Before joining IIT Kanpur, I was an Assistant Professor at BITS-Pilani (2017–22). Earlier in my career, I held research positions at the University of Surrey (2016–17), General Electric (2014–16), and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (2008–10). I obtained my B.Tech. (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, and subsequently my Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 2014 under the guidance of Prof. Qingyan Chen, in the field of. My Ph.D. research was in the field of indoor air quality, focusing on ozone-initiated chemistry in indoor environments. You can find it here 😀.
My current research focuses on improving building energy efficiency through the integration of building physics, experimental investigations, computational modelling, and data-driven approaches. My research programme encompasses the hygrothermal performance of building envelopes, climate-adaptive retrofit strategies, building energy modelling, and smart-meter-based residential energy efficiency. You can find my research publications on Google Scholar.
Feel free to email me if you are interested in prospective research opportunities in my lab. I try my best to respond to all such queries.
