Building Connections: From Human-Human to Human-AI Collaboration

Human-AI collaboration is increasingly becoming prevalent in various domains, ranging from healthcare to finance to education. However, current AI systems often fall short in providing natural interactions, especially in the context of teamwork. Unlike current human-AI interactions, human-human interactions are rich and complex, with multi-modal information exchange for task completion, as well as trust-building, dispute resolution, and negotiation.

This workshop aims to bring together experts from two different areas: human-AI collaboration and human-human collaboration to explore potential connections and synergies between the two. The symposium will provide a platform to discuss the challenges and opportunities in designing AI systems that can interact with humans in a more natural and collaborative way. The workshop will consist of a series of interactive sessions, including talks, panels, and group discussions, aimed at fostering collaborations and identifying potential research directions in this area.

Key Aims:

1.       To identify the challenges and opportunities in designing AI systems that can collaborate with humans in a natural way.

2.       To explore potential connections and synergies between human-AI and human-human collaboration.

3.       To foster collaborations between researchers from human-AI collaboration and human-human collaboration.

Topics:

The following are a (non-exhaustive) list topics that will be of interest in the symposium:

·         Algorithms for collaborative agents with novel partner and/or humans

·         Human partner modeling

·         Communication in human-AI/multi-agent teams

·         Coordination and conflict resolution in human-AI teams

·         Cognitive and affective aspects of human-AI collaboration

·         Robustness of collaborative AI agents

·         Explainability for collaborative AI agents

·         Trust, safety and reliability of collaborative AI agents

·         Large language models for human-AI collaboration

Format:

The symposium will involve a mix of activities including keynotes, paper sessions, breakout brainstorming sessions, panel discussions, and poster sessions.

Submissions:

We are accepting paper submissions for position, review, or research articles in two formats: (a) short papers (2-4 pages) and (b) full papers (6-8 pages). For accepted submissions, authors will have the option to publish their work in an open access proceedings site.

Papers can be submitted through the AAAI Summer Symposia EasyChair site here: https://easychair.org/conferences/submissions?a=30767585 , selecting the appropriate track and theme.

Important Dates:

2.       Submissions due: June 20, 2023

3.       Author Notification: June 25, 2023

4.       Symposium: July 17-18, 2023
