Alejandro Vistorte Salgado
Hi, my name is Alejandro. I am a PhD student at the University of Virginia working in the Sensing Systems for Health (S2He) Lab. My work focuses on developing intelligent, data-driven methods that integrate signals from wearables, smartphones, and other sensing technologies to better understand human health and behavior. I am particularly interested in biomedical signal processing, multimodal learning, and multimodal data fusion for personalized and remote health monitoring.
I received my Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the Technological University of Havana, Cuba. My undergraduate thesis focused on the design of a wearable device for human gait analysis, which sparked my long-term interest in biomedical systems and human-centered sensing. This training allowed me to build a strong foundation in electronics, embedded systems, and data analysis, bridging hardware design with computational modeling.
Outside the lab, I enjoy singing, listening to music, and spending time with friends. I like staying active by playing sports, especially soccer and volleyball, and I never miss a chance to watch a good match.
