Following the overall planning proposal for the reconstruction of Keelung Anle High School, this time's task is to select a space with greater development potential based on the previous proposal as the main design object and make further improvements or planning to this space. I chose the library area, which we spent a lot of effort discussing last time.
For this library, I proposed a new concept. As a place with diverse functions required by a high school, I tried to break the old impression of a quiet and solemn library by incorporating various different functional spaces and allowing these spaces to connect and interact with each other, attempting to generate new sparks between different functions. Therefore, the entire building almost does not use walls to divide different areas, making the overall space wider and more interesting.
The library is located on the only passage connecting the entire campus with the outside world, so it is necessary to deal with the issue of pedestrian flow. In the previous overall planning and design proposal for Keelung Anle High School, it was mentioned how to separate the flow of commuter traffic and student shuttle buses to ease traffic. This time, we focus on the route design of the library and how to use the building's shape to ease traffic and plan pedestrian flow, which is one of the most important tasks of the library.
We divided the building into two parts.
The first part is the "drop-off/pick-up area" to guide pedestrian flow and clearly delineate the entrances and exits of the junior high and high school sections, so that parents can park in the correct location and improve efficiency in getting on and off the vehicles.
The second part is the "facade" defining the campus boundary, which replaces the traditional school gate, making the entrance and exit more distinctive and enhancing the overall image of the campus.
Furthermore, the existence of the library also provides two school gates and a pedestrian bridge for easier access for different users of Keelung Anle High School.

Traditionally, walls are used to divide the various functions of a library, but in this project, we have designed a non-wall partitioning method.
Skylight:
Using skylights to bring in natural light from the outside, we have created partially raised and stepped spaces beneath the skylights to distinguish between academic and leisure areas.
Pathways:
A pathway running east to west divides the library into academic areas such as meeting and presentation rooms.
In this new concept library, functions that don't require a quiet environment can hear each other while maintaining their own areas.

On the second floor of the library, part of the floor is left open to allow sunlight from the skylights to penetrate all floors. This creates naturally distinct areas for different functions. The focus of the second floor is on quiet work and study, so areas for book storage and self-study are arranged here.
The spacious basement is used to store most of the books, and we designed a main circulation path that leads all straight-line movement paths to the curved wall as the endpoint, causing people to turn involuntarily. Through these turns, the circulation path surrounds the entire basement.
The south-facing windows, which open up from the mountainside, provide a good view and have been planned as exhibition spaces.
