Ray Edgar

Former player, Raymond Edgar, sadly passed away in March 2024, aged 68. He signed for Renfrew in July 1983, after having played for a number of clubs at both senior and junior level. He made 31 appearances in his only full season at the club as well as a single appearance the following season, before moving to Vale of Leven. In his full season, we finished third in Division B of the Central League and were promoted, 2 points behind champions St Rochs.

He had been a product of the famous Drumchapel Amateurs and had a spell with Duntocher Hibs then went senior with Hamilton Accies in 1975. He was to make 11 appearances (and score one goal) in two seasons there. Back briefly in the juniors after being reinstated as an amateur at Cumbernauld United, he then signed for Queens Park and made 40 first team appearances in a year and a half at Hampden. In 1980, he went to Clyde and scored three times in 19 games and then to East Stirling, appearing in most games in the 1981/82 season and then 11 games in 1982/83. Though he signed for Queen of the South towards the end of the season, he didn’t play any first team games. This was the point when he moved to Western Park. Whilst at Vale of Leven, he made one appearance (as a trialist at the age of 29) for Queen of the South. Still keen to play the game, he finished his career off in the amateur ranks with Giffnock North and Cambria.
