Name: Skull Head Phone Speaker

Description: This sculpture is actually a phone speaker that was given as an assignment in my ceramics class. I had to make sure that my iPhone 5s would fit and by playing music, it would echo throughout the sculpture. I chose to contradict the death and lifelessness of the skull head with a variety of lively patterned colors to project joy and peace.

Name: Sandy Claws

Description: This sculpture is an inspiration from the film director Tim Burton. This is Jack Skellington from the movie A Nightmare Before Christmas. When Jack is in the Santa outfit, his beard hangs off below his chin. I made sure to keep Jack's beard detached just like in the movie. I used two halves of a sphere because I wanted to give it more depth. I morphed the hemispheres together and began the details of his face, making sure I kept the mouth and eyes hollow.

Name: Personal Mirror

Description: This head sculpture is a portrayal of myself. I used separate large slabs to build the entire shoulder and head part. I made sure to incorporate the basic characteristics that distinguish my appearance from others such as my dutch braids, my bar piercing on my right ear, and my favorite Adidas jacket. The defined eyebrows capture the strong gaze I express as I walk through the hallways at school.

Name: Perched Hummingbird

Description: This sculpture is my very first experience with clay. The inspiration came from my mother's favorite bird: the hummingbird. The technique I used for this was pinching. I chose not to glaze the base piece because I wanted to capture a more rustic, outdoor stone look. I use it as a ring holder because of its bowl shape.

Name: Purple People Eater

Description: This sculpture is a mystical dragon. I decided to create it because I like to come up with unusual creatures that have not been seen in real life before. Although it is a mystical creature, I added bright colors to give life to my dragon. I chose to glaze this piece completely so the sculpture can capture and reflect more light to mimic a mucus or scaly appearance it would possess in the real world.
