CHIPPEWA FALLS--Charles W. Apfel, 73, of 305 Edna St., Chippewa Falls, died Sat. Nov. 22, 2008, at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire, surrounded by his family.

He was born May 31, 1935, in Marshfield, the son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Helmke) Apfel. He served in the National Guard and the U.S. Marine Corp.

Charles married Annette "Jean" Lutz on Sept. 7, 1957, in Marshfield. He worked for Weyerhauser in Marshfield for 42 years.

He is survived by his wife, Annette "Jean" of Chippewa Falls; one son, Jeffrey Apfel of Eau Claire; one daughter, Deb (Mike) Loiselle of Bloomer; one brother, Leroy Apfel of Milwaukee; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wed. at Holy Ghost Church, Chippewa Falls. Burial of cremains will be in Eagleton Cemetery, town of Eagle Point.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and until 10:30 a.m. Wed. at the Horan Funeral Home, Chippewa Falls. The Knights of Columbus Goldsmith Council 974 will recite the rosary at 4 p.m. and there will be a Christian Vigil Service at 7 p.m. both today at the funeral home.

Funeral services for John Apfel, 81, a resident of the Neillsville area for the last 29 years, will be held from the Bergemann Funeral Home, at 2 p.m. Friday.

The services will be conducted by the Rev. Virgil Nulton, and burial will be made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the funeral home starting Thursday afternoon.

Mr. Apfel, who suffered an extended illness, died at his home on South Hewett Street at 4 p.m. Tuesday. He was born on June 7, 1868, in Rock County, Wisconsin, where he received his education and was married to Esther Wright in 1893, who survives. Surviving is a son, Legare Apfel of the Town of Levis and a grandson.

Funeral services for Mrs. Legare (Josephine) Apfel, 60, were held January 8, from the Bergemann Funeral Home. The Rev. Virgil Holmes of the Methodist Church officiated.  Burial was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.
 

Two hymns, "In the Garden" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer," were sung by Mrs. Virgil Holmes accompanied by Mrs. Florence Counsell.

Andrew M. “Andy” Apfelbeck, 66, Colby, died Friday, Dec. 6 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 9 at St. Louis Catholic Church, with Rev. James Schaefer officiating. Pallbearers were Rick Trombly, Randy Boneske, Chad Robida, Josh Flin, Dee, Jay and Jody Apfelbeck. Honorary pallbearers were Jamie Rowe, Kristin and Ron Apfelbeck , Jared and Jenna Younker, Jeff, Chris, Cody and Tyler Thorson and Bruce Salzgerber. Burial was in Dorchester Memorial Cemetery.

Andrew Apfelbeck was born May 20, 1936 in the Town of Hull, Marathon County to the late Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Apfelbeck. He received his early education at the Riverside School.
His marriage to Karen Robida, who survives, took place on April 23, 1960, at St. Louis Catholic Church.

He worked for Johnson Silo Company and later owned and operated body shops in Dorchester, Abbotsford and Owen, beginning in 1960. Since 1994 he owned and operated Ten Starr Auto Body and Detail with his son, Jody.
He enjoyed camping and dancing to polka music.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Randy (Christine) of Edgar, Jay (Fiancée Breda Haslow) of Colby and Jody (Karen) of Abbotsford; four daughters, Crystal of Athens, Jackie (Wayne) Thorson of Marathon, Jill (Randy) Younker and Jalaine (Jeff) Kellnhofer, both of Dorchester; six brothers, Leon of San Mateo, Calif., Claude (Hazel), Hubert (Lavonne), both of Abbotsford, Arnold (Evie) of Tomahawk, Ray (Marlene) of Wausau and Robert (Darlene) of Mosinee; six sisters, Lucille Weber of Twin Lakes, Rosemary Chris and Helen (Duane) Leu, both of Abbotsford, Pat (Roy) Boneske of Athens, Agnes (Dennis) Weber of Antioch, Dorothy (Dave) Kramas of Delavan; 11 grandchildren and a great-grandson.

The Angel of Death again entered the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Apfelbeck on Friday morning, Feb. 11, 1921, and took from them their three-month-old baby boy. This is the second child taken from this home with a period of two years, having lost an infant in 1919. Services were held at St. Mary’s Church and interment made in the Colby St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Apfelbeck have the sympathy of the entire community.

A lifelong resident of the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Carl Apfelbeck, 82, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 15, 1973 at the Colonial House of Colby, where he had resided since October of 1970.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, with the Rev. Frank Rushman officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Tom and Rand Boneske, Steve and Scott Weber, and Jim, Ron, Mike, Greg and Alan Apfelbeck.

Mr. Apfelbeck was born October 24, 1890 in the town of Hull. He received his education at Riverside School, and on June 27, 1918 married Margaret Ohlinger, at Colby. She died in 1956.

He spent his whole life farming in the town of Hull, and was an active member of the Farmers Union. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby.

Survivors include seven sons and seven daughters. They ae Leon, Visalia, California; Arnold, Tomahawk; Claude, Huber and Andrew, all of Abbotsford; Robert, Route 2, Mosinee, and Ray, Wausau; Mrs. Jack )Bernice) Tromley, Clearwater, Florida; Mrs. Clarence (Rosemary) Chris, Abbotsford; Mrs. Clyde (Lucille) Weber, Fox River Grove, Ill.,; Mrs. Duane (Helen) Leu, Abbotsford Mrs. Roy (Patricia) Boneske, Athens; Mrs. Dennis (Agnes) Weber, Antioch, Illinois; and Mrs. Dave (Dorothy) Kramas, Boyd.

Other survivors are two sisters, Mathilda Schraufnagel and Rose Thorn, both of Colby. A total of 63 grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides his wife, two children, four brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.

Dale B. Apfelbeck, age 83, of Lublin, passed away on Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin. Rev. Kurt Apfelbeck will preside and burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Dale Bernard Apfelbeck was born on Nov. 7, 1935, on the family dairy farm in rural Colby, the son of Bernard and Bernadine (Hoffman) Apfelbeck. He received his elementary education at the Riverside Country School and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Colby, and graduated from Colby High School in 1953.

Dale served our country in the U.S. Army from April 1958 until 1960, and was recalled for the Berlin Crisis from 1961 to 1962. He was united in marriage to Imogene M. Hackel on May 13, 1961, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. Dale worked as a cheese maker and later was a self-employed auto mechanic in Lublin.

He had many interests, but especially loved to read, raise his garden, and loved to fix and tinker with things. Dale was a very quiet, but generous man, who was always willing to help out his family, friends and neighbors. Dale was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin.

He is survived by his wife, Imogene “Jean” of Lublin; six children, Jeff (Angie) of Medford, Steve of Lublin, Doug of Withee, Fr. Kurt of La Crosse, Keith of Oostburg and Dena (Gary) Brantner of Wheeler; four granddaughters, Andrea and Erika Brantner, and Avery and Anya Apfelbeck; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; his infant sons, Kevin and Brian; two brothers, Joseph and William; and one sister, Gertrude.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Abbotsford, for Ernest M. Apfelbeck, 75, 607 Sycamore St., Abbotsford, who died at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Marshfield Convalescent Center.

The Rev. Louis Dietrich, associate pastor of St. Mary’s Colby, officiated, with burial in the Colby Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Apfelbeck, Andrew Apfelbeck, Leo Apfelbeck Jr., Dale Apfelbeck, Carlton Pecher and Donald Pecher.

Mr. Apfelbeck was born January 27, 1897 in Colby. On June 17, 1924 he married Bertha Pecher at Wuerzburg. He received his education at Riverside School and St. Mary’s, Colby.

He farmed in the town of Hull (Marathon Co.) until 1959, when he and his wife moved to Abbotsford. Mr. Apfelbeck was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Survivors, besides his wife, include three daughters, Mrs. Walter (Betty) Hein, Shawano; Mrs. Edward (Lorraine) Rindt, Stetsonville, and Mrs. David (Virginia) Cook, Evansville, Indiana. Five grandchildren also survive.

Other survivors include four brothers, Carl, Leo, Ben and Albert Apfelbeck, all of Colby, and two sisters, Mrs. Rose Thorn and Mrs. Mathilda Schraufnagel, also of Colby.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services for Frank H. Apfelbeck, 85, Colby, were held Tuesday, November 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby. The Rev. John Pinion officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements were attended to by the Lulloff Funeral Home.

Mr. Apfelbeck died Monday, November 27, 1965 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Born in the town of Hull (Marathon Co., Wis.), Frank Apfelbeck received in eduation in area public schools. He worked as a young man as a mail clerk for the railroad. He was married January 8, 1918 to Catherine Pecher at Wuerzburg, Wisconsin. They farmed in the town of Hull until their retirement in 1949, when they moved to Colby. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, six brothers, Peter, Leo, Carl, Ben and Albert, all of Colby, and Ernest of Abbotsford, and two sisters, Mrs. Norbert (Tillie) Schraufnagel and Mrs. Rose Thorn, both of Colby. He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services will be held in Vermont at a later date.

Hazel was a homemaker.

James P. Apfelbeck, age 86, a resident of Park Falls, passed away on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center in Manitowoc.

Jim was born on May 1, 1933, in the Township of Hull, to the late Albert and Anna (Pecher) Apfelbeck. He attended Rusk School and St. Mary Catholic School, both in Colby. As a young man, Jim worked on the family farm in rural Colby and on neighboring farms. Once married, he worked first for RolloHome and then Packaging Corporation of America, where he stayed until retirement.

Jim loved northern Wisconsin for the fishing and the wildlife, and he ultimately bought a retirement home in what he called “God’s Country,” the Pike Lake area outside Park Falls. He loved to socialize. In fact, the only photo we could find of him where he wasn’t surrounded by friends and family was his driving license and this one, his first grade portrait from Rusk School with his shiny new red pencil in the pocket.

Survivors include Jim’s two children: Randall (Brenda Job) Apfelbeck, Helena, Mont., and Laura (Mark Meisner) Apfelbeck, Manitowoc; four grandchildren: Milana, Talise, Sophia and Jordan; brother, Clem Apfelbeck, Mayville; also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Alberta Endries; and brother, Arvin Apfelbeck.

In respect to Jim’s wishes, there will be a private celebration of his life later this summer. No formal visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in the town of Colby with military honors.

He was assigned to the 162nd Signal Core/Communication Command until his honorable discharge. He later joined the Army Reserve from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1954. He was a former farmhand and truck driver. He also worked on road construction and did woodworking.

Joe is survived by his brother, Dale (Jean) Apfelbeck of Lublin, and many nieces and nephews in Wisconsin, Indiana and Tennessee.

Graveside services were held Saturday morning, July 1, for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Apfelbeck.  Kevin William Apfelbeck was born June 28, at St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, and lived only eight hours.  He is survived by his twin brother, Keith Bernard, and four brothers, his parents, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Apfelbeck and Mr. and Mrs. William Hackel, Colby.  Burial was made in the Colby Cemetery with Father J. B. Pinion officiating.

Leon C. Apfelbeck, 87, of Owen, died Tuesday June 9, 2009 at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. 
 

He was born October 18, 1921, in the town of Hull, a son of Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Apfelbeck.   
 

He attended Riverside school in the town of Hull and later graduated from Colby High School.   
 

He moved to Chicago where he started working as an usher in the local movie theaters and worked his way up to management. He then became employed by the Mars Candy Co. of Chicago, where he achieved on the company’s top sales positions. He spent time in Chicago, Michigan, Arizona and California for the Mars Candy Co. 
 

He resided in San Mateo, CA, returning to movie theater management. After retiring, he returned o the Owen area and entered the Clark Co. Health Care Center in 2004.   
 

He enjoyed game shows, soap operas, dining out, easy listening music and his cars. He enjoyed photography and delsom was seen without his camera. 
 

He was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby and St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Abbotsford, Wis.

His is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers in infancy, John and Gilbert; one sister, Bernice Trombly; and on brother, Andrew.   
 

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m.., Saturday June 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. The Rev. Anandran Rajendran will preside. OWEN, WIS. --- Leon C. Apfelbeck, 87, of Owen, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen.
 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. The Rev. Anandran Rajendran will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in the town of Colby, Wis.
 

Leon was born on Oct. 18, 1921, in the town of Hull in Marathon County, a son of Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Apfelbeck. Leon attended Riverside School in the town of Hull and later graduated from Colby High School. Leon moved to Chicago where he started working as an usher in the local movie theaters and worked his way up to management. He then became employed by the Mars Candy Co. of Chicago where he achieved one of the company's top sales positions.
 

Leon spent time in Chicago, Michigan, Arizona and California for the Mars Candy Co. Leon resided in San Mateo, Calif., returning to movie theater management. After retiring, Leon returned to the Owen area and entered the Clark County Health Care Center in 2004.
 

Leon enjoyed game shows, soap operas, dining out, easy listening music and loved his cars. Leon enjoyed photography and seldom was seen without his camera. He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby and St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford, Wis. To his family, Leon is remembered as a man of deep faith.
 

Leon is survived by his brothers, Claude Apfelbeck of Abbotsford, Hubert (LaVonne) Apfelbeck of Abbotsford, Arnold (Evie) Apfelbeck of Tomahawk, Ray (Marlene) Apfelbeck of Wausau, and Robert (Darlene) Apfelbeck of Mosinee; his sisters, Rosemary Chris of Abbotsford, Lucille Weber of Twin Lakes, Helen (Butch) Leu of Abbotsford, Patricia (Roy) Boneske of Athens, Agnes Weber of Antioch, Ill., and Dorothy (David) Kramas of Darien. Mary Jane Apfelbeck passed away at her home in Colby, Wis. Monday, June 3, 1929, at 1:15 p.m. at the age of seventy-four years, three months and nine days, old age being the cause of her departure to the heavenly goal. Impressive funeral services were held at the catholic Church, Rev. Lachnit officiating, Thursday morning, June 6th, and interment made in the Colby Catholic Cemetery.

The deceased was born in Fond du Lac, Wis., Feb. 24, 1855, and was married to Joseph Apfelbeck June 27, 1878, in Fond du Lac. Fifty years ago, she and her husband came to this locality and homesteaded on a tract of land in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis., which was still a vast wilderness, but by hard work and privations, built a fine farm. Her husband died Nov. 12, 1925, and three children also preceded her in death. The children still living are all of Colby, namely: Mrs. Norbert Schraufnagle, Mrs. Rose Thorn, Frank, Peter, Leo, Carl, Ben, Ernest and Albert. One sister, Mrs. Albert Zilke of Fond du Lac, and one brother, John Brill of Milwaukee, also mourn her departure.

The deceased, the mother of a large and gifted family, was a woman of strong Christian character, and also never forgot the hospitable ways of the early pioneer. None ever entered her home without a warm welcome nor left without feeling the warmth of genuine hospitality, so characteristic of the early pioneer settlers.

Apfelbeck, William (7 MAY 1879 - 10 NOV 1909)

On last Wednesday afternoon Wm. Apfelbeck, a brakeman on the Soo Line between Chelsea and Rib Lake, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Apfelbeck of the town of Hull (Marathon Co., Wis.), was caught between the cars in some manner while nearing Chelsea, and crushed to such an extent that he died shortly afterward from his injuries at the Marshfield Hospital where was taken on train 12. His mother was notified and accompanied him to the hospital, only to see her boy pass away.

The remains were taken to Colby by train and from there taken to his home. Funeral services were held at St. Mary’s Church at Colby Saturday morning, Rev. J.M. Schramm officiating.

Chas. B. Appleyard, a well known farmer of North Pine Valley, Clark County, was found dead in his barn Tuesday morning about 9 o’clock. He ate breakfast as usual with his family and went to the barn to do chores, stating that he would be back soon to help with some work at the house. As he did not return, search was made and his body found in the barn. A bottle and cup in which were traces of carbolic acid were found, and by direction of the district attorney an inquest held by Justice Devos and jury, who found that death was due to drinking carbolic acid. Mr. Appleyard had been in usual health though complaining some of rheumatism, and no reason was apparent for the act. He was a man of cheerful disposition and well like by everyone who knew him. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon. Obituary will be given later.

(Follow on Obit in 5/4/1916 R & P) Charles Brumby Appleyard was born at Conisboro, England, July 26, 1850. In 1871 he was married to Elizabeth Hancock at Conisboro, to whom three children were born: Susannah, who lives in Manchester, England; Hilda, who lives in Wombwell, Barnsly, England, and Martha, who died when she was nineteen years old. His wife died Dec. 11, 1875.

Mr. Appleyard left Liverpool, England for America, Nov. 3, 1882 and went to Jefferson, Jefferson Co., Wis. He worked in Janesville five years.

Nov. 7, 1888 he was married to Miss Kate Johnson at Janesville, Wis. In 1901 the family moved to Neillsville, Wis. He died April 25, 1916. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, and four children, Mrs. Arthur Imig, and Charles, Fred, Fanny and Anne, who live at home, also two brothers, George and Joseph, and a sister Mary (Mrs. Simpson), who still lives at Conisboro, England.

Mr. Appleyard was a member of the Episcopal Church, a kind husband and father, and did all he could for the welfare of his loved ones and will be sadly missed.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 28th, at the farm home north of Neillsville, and at the Congregational Church in the city, the pastor of the church, Rev. G.W. Longenecker, officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Dale L. Appleyard, 85, passed away in Aurora, Colorado. Funeral Home Services for Dale are being provided by Newcomer Funeral Home - West Metro Chapel, Lakewood, CO.

He was born in the Appleyard farmhouse in Neillsville, Wisconsin, the 6th month on the 28th day of 1938, to Fred and Lillian (Thoma) Appleyard. Dale graduated from Neillsville High School in 1956. He joined the US Air Force after completing some college at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire and Concordia University, Wisconsin. In the Air Force he refueled B-52 Bombers while he was in Pilot training in Texas.

He moved to Denver after being discharged from the Service where he met the love of his life, Elvira "Vera" Popp whom he married in June of 1968. They remained happily married until her passing in 2007. After he was married, he became an employee of Mountain Bell/US West/Qwest, retiring in 2005 after over 30 years of service.

Dale was a longtime Elder at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Denver. He loved shoveling snow and serving as a pseudo church caretaker.

He was a longtime bandmember in polka bands, including Herman Dinges and Emmett Horst Bands. He enjoyed playing the Sax and Clarinet and singing the hits. Dale was also a popular and respected soloist for church services and funerals.

Additional bands where he enjoyed being a member and musician were the VFW Concert Band and the John Philip Souza Band.

Dale is survived by loving sons Johann "Hans" and Gregory; daughter Lisa Appleyard and two grandchildren; Jude Chabinsky & Kaelyn Chabinsky. Brothers Leland and Larry Appleyard; sister Marian Hickethier.

Lillian Appleyard, 96, Neillsville, Clark County, died on Sunday, April 29, 2001, at the Memorial Nursing Home, Neillsville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., on Friday, May 4, at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, and from 10 a.m., until time of services at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 5, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, Neillsville. The Rev. James Gordon will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brent Appleyard, David Appleyard, George Appleyard, Ken Appleyard, Barry Hickethier, Jack Hickethier, Michael Hans, and Greg Appleyard.

Lilly Clara Elizabeth Thoma was born on Jan. 2, 1905, at Globe, to William B. and Bertha (nee Scheel) Thoma. She was baptized and also confirmed in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Globe. She attended local schools, helped her parents, then kept house for her brother and three little boys for 4 years after the death of his wife. She married Fred Appleyard on sept. 23, 1928, by the Rev. Richard Motzkus, in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Globe. They lived on their farm in the town of Pine Valley for 57 years. Her husband died on Aug. 15, 1978. She moved to Country View Apartments, Neillsville, in 1985, and in Dec. of 1993, she moved to the Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home. She loved gardening, sharing her flowers for Sunday worship services at church, and extra vegetables were shared with her neighbors and friends. She was a charter member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and belonged to its ladies aid. She was known for her deep-fried rolls and German potato salad at church luncheons and bazaars, and her crocheted snowflakes.

Survivors include five children, Marian (Truman) Hickethier, Rochester, Minn., Leland (Martie) Appleyard, Sparta, William (Patti) Appleyard, Rice Lake, Dale (Elvera) Appleyard, Denver, Colo., Larry (Eileen) Appleyard, Addison, Ill. 15 grandchildren three step-grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Fred one son, Melvin and four brothers, George, Arthur, Frank, and John.

Lillian Clara Elizabeth Appleyard, 96, of Neillsville, died April 29, 2001, at the Memorial Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 2, 1905 in Globe to William B. and Bertha (nee Scheel) Thoma. She was a homemaker and farmed in the Pine Valley Township.

Melvin Fred Appleyard, 69, Neillsville, died May 14, 1999, at his home.

Melvin Fred Appleyard was born June 18, 1929, in Neillsville, the son of Fred and Lillian (Thoma) Appleyard. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1947 and then attended the farm short course at Madison for two years. Melvin purchased the Wilbert Kalsow farm in 1950.

On Oct. 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Margery Rucks in Berlin. After their marriage the couple continued farming and Melvin became associated with many farm organizations: the Farm Bureau, the Wisconsin Holstein Association and he was a 4-H leader. He showed many cattle at the Clark County Fair where he became well known for his registered cattle.

Melvin was a charter member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in Neillsville. He wrote the first letter of request to the ELCA to get Calvary started. He also enjoyed music and was a good “Pine Valley Dutchman.” He and his brothers would often play for wedding dances. Among his numerous accomplishments in life, Melvin served as president of the Neillsville School Board from 1962 to 1963.

He is survived by his wife, Margery; a daughter Mary Beth of River Falls; a son David (Debbie) Appleyard of Marshfield; three step grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Katherine Altmann; his mother, Lillian Appleyard; a sister, Marian (Truman) Hickitheir of Rochester, Minn.; brothers, Leland (Martha) Appleyard of Sparta, William (Patti) Appleyard, of Rice Lake, Dale (Elvera) Appleyard of Denver, Colo., and Larry (Eileen) Appleyard of Addison, Ill. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Lutheran Church. Pastor James Gordon will officiate. Music will be provided by Kris Herbrand, organist. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Casket bearers are Kent Appleyard, Dan Clark, Melvin Dux, Billy Thoma, Gordon Thoma and Ronald Zank. William H. Appleyard, 77, of Rice Lake, WI, was received into the arms of the Lord, Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire, WI surrounded by his children.

William was born September 29, 1935, to Fred and Lillian (Thoma) Appleyard at Neillsville, WI. On June 8, 1963, he was married to Patricia Hasse in Eau Claire, WI. They then resided in Milwaukee and later Wauwatosa, where he was employed at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home. They moved to Rice Lake in 1968, where he worked for the Mason Funeral Home until 1976, when they established Appleyard's Home for Funerals which they operated until Patti's death, yet he continued to serve his families until his death. Bill was very devoted to his family, and loved life and people, especially those he served over the years.

Proposed and organized the fundraising and construction of a new Veterans Memorial in Rice Lake, which was completed and dedicated Memorial Day 2005; Organized the Memorial Day event for Memorial Day 2006 to dedicate the kneeling Soldier Statue at the Veterans Memorial; Organized a Memorial Day event in 2008 for the dedication of a World War I and World War II monument recognizing the local veterans of the “Red Arrow Division” of those wars; Received Citizen of the Year Award in 2005 from the Chamber of Commerce; Received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rice Lake Rotary Club.

Frank Arbelovsky, 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, Saturday, December 24th at Alaska Regional Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

Frank was born on January 5th, 1933 in Clark County, Wisconsin to Joseph and Marie Arbelovsky. After high school basketball games Frank would go to a diner in Chili, Wisconsin where he met Ardith, the love of his life, working in her family diner. Frank graduated from Loyal High School in 1951. Frank, who was patriotic and hardworking, but not the best farmer, decided to join the United States Air Force. Frank and Ardith were married on December 4th, 1954 in Chili and was stationed in Merced, California two weeks later. Frank served as a Staff Sargent flight instructor and was Honorably Discharged in 1956.

His military service completed, Frank and his family moved to Marshfield, Wisconsin where he worked at Merkle Electric while attending apprentice school. An electrician by trade, Frank was a proud member of the IBEW for over 55 years.

Seeking adventure and economic opportunity, Frank and his family moved to Alaska in 1967. After a short time in Anchorage they moved to Kenai where Frank established and managed the City Electric office in Nikiski, where Ardith also worked.

Frank retired from City Electric in 1989, but he never stopped working. He was a man of many talents who cared for his community, and could be found helping out others doing everything from construction and electrical work, to knitting wool hats for cancer survivors. He was very active in his church and was a Trustee; a member of the Civil Air Patrol; a Cub Scout Master; and a regular volunteer of Kenai Senior Center where he was the president of Senior Connections. Frank and Ardith were always working on projects improving the house they had built, including a recent addition of a sunroom to enjoy watching the ocean from. Frank loved living in Alaska and was a pilot, fisherman and hunter.

We will remember his love of family, colorful sense of humor, work ethic, independent spirit, and love of the Packers.

Mourning the loss of his life is his bride of 62 years, Ardith Arbelovsky; son, Steve (Betsy) Arbelovsky, daughter, Sue (Michael) Brogan, son, Stacy (Marideth) Arbelovsky; daughter-in-law, Rizalyn Arbelovsky (widow of son Scott Arbelovsky); grandchildren, Casey (Kirsten) Brogan, Micaela (Shane) Maguire, Chris (Larissa) Arbelovsky, Stephanie (Jamie) Queen, Michael (Sarah) Foglia, Joe Foglia, Charlie (Evette) Foglia, Cody & Amber Arbelovsky (mother Myra Macasu); 10 great-grandchildren; Sister Marie Svoboda; loving nieces and nephews; family members and friends throughout Alaska and the Lower 48.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph & Marie; brother, Joe; and son, Scott.

A service will be held at the Kenai Senior Center on Saturday, January 14 at 2:00 p.m. Frank will be buried at the City of Kenai cemetery at a later date.

SPENCER -- Joseph F. Arbelovsky, 80, of N7091 Division Avenue, Spencer, was called to his heavenly home Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, to join his loving wife, Donna.
 

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Marshfield. The Rev. Peter Manickam will officiate and music will be provided by Suzanne Golden as organist and Kristin Cuddie as soloist.
 

Burial will take place in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Chili, and serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
 

The visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield; and on Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. A parish vigil service will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
 

Joe was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Cicero, Ill., to Joseph and Marie (Fanta) Arbelovsky. The family moved to a farm in the Chili area when Joe was a young boy. He attended Loyal High School. He married his soul mate and true love, Donna Handrick, on June 15, 1954, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford.
 

Joe and Donna dairy farmed side by side in the town of Fremont, Clark County, for 40 years. Joe graduated as an auctioneer from Reisch Auction School in Mason City, Iowa. While farming they also owned and operated Chili Auction Service for 42 years.
 

Joe proudly served in the Army National Guard from 1954 to 1960 as a gunner and cannoneer. In Joe's younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball, softball, bowling and trapping. Joe enjoyed the outdoors his entire life and loved to spend time in his woods, logging, hunting and enjoying nature, but most of all enjoyed gatherings with his family. Joe had a strong faith in God and was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was instrumental in building the St. Stephen's Chapel in Chili.
 

Joe is survived by five daughters, Sherre (Joe) Rosandich of Marshfield, and their children, Jill (Joe) Binder and their son Aiden, and Jodi (Danny) Wenzel; Barb Fleisner of Mosinee and her children, Deacon, Dustin, and Brittany Fleisner; Jean Worzella of Marshfield, and her children, Joe and Jerrod Worzella; LaVonne (Scott) Krasselt of Chili and their children, Adam (fiancee Kate Coleman) Krasselt, and Kelli (Mark) Elmhorst; and Patti (Gary) David of Marshfield. He is further survived by siblings, Marie Svobda of Cherry Valley, Ill., and Frank (Ardie) Arbelovsky of Kenai, Alaska; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
 

He was predeceased by his wife, Donna, on March 12, 2009; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Cliff Breseman; his parents; and a brother-in-law, Otto Svoboda.
 

Thank you for being a wonderful Dad and for teaching us how to live by your daily examples of love, kindness, honesty and hard work. Your beautiful memory will live on in our hearts forever. Give Mom a big hug from all of us.

Mrs. Anny Arbs, 79, former resident of Greenwood, died March 20 at a Menomonie nursing home, where she had been for two months, prior to that she had been hospitalized for two months in Eau Claire, following a stroke.

Mrs. Arbs, a native of Switzerland, resided for 15 years with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Arbs, Jr. in Eau Claire and Altoona, following the death of her husband, Louis Arbs, Sr., who for many years owned and operated a garage in Greenwood.

Mrs. Arbs was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Forest Queen Camp of Royal Neighbors of Greenwood. 

Surviving are her son Louis; three grandsons, of Altoona; and a sister in Switzerland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in Eau Claire.  Burial was made in the Rest Haven Garden Cemetery.

Those from Greenwood who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hohl, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hohl, Mrs. Anita Miller, Mrs. Christ Keiner, Mrs. Lawrence Cox, Mrs. Minnie Cox, Mrs. Alice Perkins and Miss Louise Keiner.

Walter Hohl was a pallbearer.

Elizabeth Betty Anne Arch, 71, Milwaukee, formerly of Greenwood, Clark County, died Thursday, March 2, 1995, at the Clark County Health Care Center, Owen. Funeral services were held at noon on Thursday, March 6, 1995, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Willard. Rev. Steve Baures officiated. Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery.

Elizabeth Anne Arch was born on Nov. 19, 1923, in Greenwood, to Louis and Lizza (nee Vodopevic) Arch. She received her education at West Eaton School in the Town of Eaton. After school, she went to Milwaukee and worked for Milprint for 36 years. She retired in March 1986. After retiring, she died volunteer work at Catholic schools. She lived in Milwaukee until entering the Clark County Heath Care Center in Dec. 1994. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Milwaukee. She enjoyed reading and was very active in church.

Survivors include tow sisters, Julia Kaczmarek, Denver, Col. and Angela McHale, Springfield, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers.

Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

FRANK ARCH, GREENWOOD, DIES SUDDENLY

Frank A. Arch, 66, of Greenwood, Clark County, died at his home Thursday noon, July 17, 1975 of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Robert B. Houston, pastor, officiated and burial was in the parish cemetery.

Hill Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements.

Mr. Arch was born June 24, 1909 in Chicago and came to Greenwood with his parents in 1917. He attended schools in Chicago and Greenwood. He married the former Rose Jordon on Jan. 13, 1940, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwood. She survives.
After their marriage, they moved to West Allis, where he was employed for four years at Motor Casting. In 1945, they moved to a farm one mile west of Greenwood. He worked for the County Highway Department until retiring in 1969, and then moved to the City of Greenwood.

Frank was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the KSKJ Society of Willard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Frank Jr., Greenwood; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard (Jo Ann) Wroblewski, Waterford; a brother, Ernest, Greenwood; three sisters, Miss Betty Arch, Milwaukee; Mrs. Ralph (Julia) Kaczmarek, Lakewood, Colo.; and Mrs. Austin (Angela) McHale, Springfield, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Frank A. Arch, 68, of Greenwood, died at his home at noon last Thursday, of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Arch, son of Louis and Elizabeth (Vodopebec) Arch was born June 24, 1909, in Chicago. He came to Greenwood with his parents in 1917. He attended the Chicago and Greenwood schools.

He was married January 13, 1940, to Rose Jordon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood. After their marriage they moved to West Allis, where he was employed four years at Motor Casting. In 1945 they moved onto a farm one mile west of Greenwood and worked for the Clark County Highway Dept.

Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) - Louis Arch, 69, died at 10 p.m. Monday (Jan 31 1949) at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. His health had been failing for several years.

The body will lie in state at the Arch home, 6 miles southwest of Greenwood, beginning Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services will be conducted at the Holy Family Catholic Church at 10 o’clock Friday morning, the Rev. Odile Hajusek officiating. Interment will be made in the Willard Cemetery.

Mr. Arch was born June 20, 1869 in Yugoslavia and came to the United States in 1901. He settled in Chicago where he was married to Elizabeth Vodopevic in 1905. They moved to Greenwood in 1917 and settled on the farm where they lived for 32 years.

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church.

His wife died in March 1932, and three children also preceded him in death, Steven, who was killed in World War II in August 1944; William, who died in an auto accident in 1945; and Louis, who died at the age of 4.

Surviving are two sons, Ernest, who lives at home, and Frank, Greenwood; three daughters, Julia, Elizabeth, and Angeline, all of Milwaukee; two brothers, Joseph, Milwaukee, and Martin, who lives in Europe.

Funeral services for Louis Arch, 69, will be held Friday morning from the Holy Family Catholic Church in Willard. Burial will be made in the Willard Cemetery. He died Monday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. His health had been failing for several years. Mrs. Ernest Arch, Route 2, Greenwood passed away Monday evening, August 5 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield where she had been a patient since July 25. She had been in failing health for the past two years.

Funeral services were held at the Hill Funeral Home Thursday at 9:00 A.M. Rev. William V. Nikolai officiated at the Requiem High Mass. Burial took place in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Frank Parkel Jr., Aage Neilsen, Howard Susa, Henry Lamovec Jr., Frank Lamovec and John Gatz.

Mrs. Arch, formerly Mildred L. Podobnik was born October 15, 1923 in the Town of Eaton. Her marriage to Ernest Arch took place October 26, 1946 in Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and the Slovenian National Benefit Society.

She is survived by her husband two daughters, Karyn and Nancy, Milwaukee and two sons, William and James at home. St. Sgt. Steven J. Arch was born Dec. 23, 1918 in the town of Eaton, Clark Co., Wis., son of Louis Arch and the late Elizabeth Wodanive Arch. He attended West Eaton School and high school for 1 ½ years.

On Feb. 20, 1941 he was inducted into the Army and spent some time in New Jersey and other camps and on Dec. 25, 1942 left for overseas.

He took part in the invasion of Italy and then returned to England where he spent several months and then he and his company were sent to France where he was wounded in action on July 20 and passed away on Aug. 2, 1944.

He is survived by his father Louis Arch, three brothers, Pfc. Wm. Arch, somewhere in Italy, Ernest at home and Frank of Milwaukee, and three sisters, Julia in Milwaukee and Elizabeth and Angeline at home.

Archambo Commits Suicide - Hangs Self in Abbotsford Cattle Yards on Tuesday, Wife Dies in Evening

Xavier Archambo, 62 year old stock buyer of Abbotsford whose home was a mile west of Abbotsford, Wis., hung himself in the stock yards at Abbotsford at about 10:30 Tuesday morning.

Clark County Coroner H. L. Brown said no inquest would be held. Mr. Archambo had been brooding over the health of his wife, who had returned home about a week ago from Rochester, Minn., where she had been receiving medical treatment for the past three weeks. Since Monday evening Mrs. Archambo had been staying with a daughter, Mrs. Arnold Laack, Abbotsford, Wis., who was caring for her.

Mr. Archambo, a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and a resident of Abbotsford for the past 28 years, was born in Merrill, Aug. 2, 1879, and was married at Curtiss to Miss Elizabeth Patitz, who survives with four sons and a daughter, Victor at home, Royal of Sheboygan, James of Chippewa Falls, Theodore of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Arnold (Elizabeth) Laack, Abbotsford, Wis.

Also surviving are a brother, Joseph of Merrill; a sister, Mrs. Nora Wilcox of Duluth, Minn.; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Archambo, who had been in poor health, died Wednesday morning. Funeral services for both will be held at the Presbyterian church at Abbotsford Friday afternoon at 1:00 P.M.

Last Rites For Mr. and Mrs. X. Archambo Held at Abbotsford Friday

Double funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon for Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Archambo by Rev. Geo. Griffith at the Archambo home and at the Presbyterian church. Internment was made in the Colby cemetery.

Mr. Archambo, age 62, was found dead Tuesday and his wife, age 59, died of a complication of ailments Wednesday morning at one o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arnold Laack of Abbotsford, Wis. She had returned home about a week previously to her death from Rochester, Minn., where she received medical treatment for three weeks.

Mrs. Archambo, nee Elizabeth Patitz, was born in the town of Mayville, Oct. 8, 1883, and was married to Xavier Archambo at Curtiss on June 18, 1906. For the last twenty-eight years the Archambos had been living at Abbotsford, Wis. She had been a member of the Presbyterian church, Royal Neighbors of America, the O. D. club and the Women’s Home Missionary Society.

Surviving are four sons and a daughter - Victor, at home, Royal of Sheboygan, James of Chippewa Falls, Theodore of Milwaukee and Mrs. Arnold Laack of Abbotsford; three sisters, Mrs. Julius Seifert and Mrs. Harvey Culbertson of Appleton and Mrs. Fred Pudlas of Curtiss; her stepmother, Mrs. Amelia Patitz of Dorchester; a half-sister, Mrs. Lee Jensen of Dorchester; three half-brothers, Edward Patitz of Escanaba, Mich., and Theodore and Herman Patitz of Glidden. There are also five grand children.

Joint funeral services will be held for Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Archambo Friday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock at the farm home one mile west and one fourth mile south where the two bodies were taken Thursday morning, and at 1:30 at the Presbyterian church here. The Rev. George Griffiths will officiate and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

The body of Xavier Archambo, 63, was found Tuesday afternoon in the shed at the stock yards. Mr. Archambo was brooding over the ill health of his wife who had returned home a week ago from Rochester, Minn., where she had been receiving medical treatment. Clark county coroner H. L. Brown said there would be no inquest when the body was found hanging by a rope. The time of death was fixed at about 10:30 Tuesday morning.

Mr. Archambo was born in Merrill, Aug. 2, 1879, and married Miss Elizabeth Patitz, of Curtiss, June 18, 1905. For the first few years of their married life, they made their home with Mr. and Mrs. George Thayer on a farm near Curtiss. About 28 years ago they moved to their farm in the Town of Colby, Wis.

Mr. Archambo also had been engaged in buying cattle. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America.

who survives with four sons and a daughter, Victor at home, Royal of Sheboygan, James of Chippewa Falls, Theodore of Milwaukee, and Mrs. Arnold (Elizabeth) Laack, Abbotsford, Wis.

Mrs. Archambo, 59 years of age, whose death occurred early Wednesday morning, was born Elizabeth Patitz, in the town of Mayville, near Curtiss, Oct. 8, 1883. At an early age, her mother died and she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. George Thayer. After her marriage to Xavier Archambo in 1906, they continued to live at the Thayer home until they moved to their present farm.

To them were born four sons and one daughter, all of whom survive their parents: Victor at home; Mrs. Arnold (Elizabeth) Laack, Abbotsford; Royal of Sheboygan; James of Chippewa Falls, and Theodore, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Mrs. Archambo had been in ill health and had gone to Rochester, Minn., for treatment, She was home about a week, and last Monday, when very ill, was brought to the home of her daughter, where she died of complications at 1:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Home Mission, the O.D.O. club and the Royal Neighbors.

There are also five grand children: Jean and Harlan Laack, Abbotsford; Carol and Frank Archambo, Sheboygan and Mary Beth Archambo, Chippewa Falls.

Mr. Archambo is survived by a brother, Joseph of Merrill, and a sister, Mrs. Nora Wilcox of Duluth, Minn.

Mrs. Archambo is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Julius Seifert and Mrs. Harvey Culbertson, Appleton, and Mrs. Fred Pudlas, Curtiss. There are three half-brothers: Theodore and Herman Patitz, Glidden; and Edward Patitz, Ontonagon, Mich. The three half-sisters are Mrs. Lee Jensen, of Dorchester; Mrs. Edna Schultz and Mrs. Reginald Marshall, Chicago.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Archambo, whose deaths occurred last Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, were held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock at the farm home and at 1:30 at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Word was received of the accidental death of Jim Archambo in a Canadian drowning accident Saturday.

Mr. Archambo, 50, was a former Abbotsford resident, now living at Hoyt Lakes, Minn. He was the brother of Royal Archambo and Mrs. Arnold (Elizabeth) Haack.

Another man also died in the boating accident. Mr. Archambo, another friend, and a guide, whose names were not immediately known, had been fishing a a Canadian lake about a six hour ride from his home. When attempting to start a motor on their boat, it suddenly lurched, throwing them into the water. Mr. Archambo and the guide drowned, while the third man was saved.

The bodies, up until Monday, had not been recovered. Dragging operations were discontinued because of rainy weather.

Jim Archambo was born at Abbotsford March 18, 1918, and was educated in the Abbotsford schools. He was married to the former Mercedes Frome of Colby. He served in the armed services and at one time he and George Vetter operated a service station for Stanley Thomson Oil Co. at Chippewa Falls. He worked in a feed mill at Abbotsford, ten took over the feed mill in Athens.

In 1949 he went to Phillips to be employed at the Flambeau Milling. About five years ago they moved to Hoyt Lakes, Minn., where he was employed in the mines.

The family lived at Abbotsford a number of years.

He is survived by his wife and five children, besides his brother and sister. Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Xavier (Art) Archambo, and two brothers, Victor and Ted.

The body of James Archambo was received and committal services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at Hoyt Lakes, Minn.

Jim Archambo, formerly of Abbotsford, was one of two fishermen drowned in Oak Lake near Kenora, Ontario, Canada, May 25, 1968.

The body was recovered last week Wednesday.  According to a report, the second body has not yet been recovered.

Attending the rites at teh cemetery Saturday were Royal Archambo, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Laack, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Archambo, Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Laack and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Martens, all of Abbotsford.

Funeral services for Victor Archambo, 39, whose death was caused by a self-inflicted gun shot wound, Wednesday afternoon, will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at Zink’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred J. Smith, of the Methodist church, at Colby, will officiate and internment will be made in the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery.

Victor Archambo was born Oct. 28, 1907, at Curtiss, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Xavier Archambo. He attended school at Abbotsford, Wis. After he was graduated from the Abbotsford high school, he helped on the home farm for a number of years.

He was a private first class in the army during World War II, and served from December, 1942 until December, 1945, and saw action in the European theatre. After his discharge he worked on the farm of August Scheeler until about a month ago.

On Sept. 7 he was admitted to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, for treatment and was discharged on Friday when he came to the home of his sister, Mrs. Arnold Laack. His death occurred Wednesday, while Mrs. Laack was away.

He is survived by an only sister, Mrs. Arnold (Elizabeth) Laack, and two brothers, James, Abbotsford, and Royal, Sheboygan.

Both of his parents preceded him in death in June, 1942, and a brother, Ted, on Jan. 1, 1943.

On Saturday afternoon, the funeral services for Victor Archambo, whose death occurred Wednesday, were held at 2:00 o’clock at the Zink Funeral home, where the body had been lying in state. The Rev. J. Smith, of the Colby Methodist church was the officiating clergyman.

Military rites, under the direction of the American Legion, were held at Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery where internment was made. The firing squad was composed of four sailors and four soldiers in uniform: George and Fred Garbrecht, Melvin Nikolay, Don Leichtnam, Bob Johnson, Bob Schraufnagel, Vern Dohm and Calvin Strombeck.

The color guard was composed of Eldred Schraufnagel, Clarence Kramer, John Kadonsky, and Jim Nikolay.

Pallbearers were all veterans of World War I: Harvey Bitter, Joe Fleischman, Henry Hingiss, Ervin Bitter, George Calmes and M. C. Thompson. Maurice Thompson, Jr., was bugler.

The flowers were in charge of the Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knaack-Thompson post No. 865, Abbotsford, Wis.

Billy Joe “BJ” Archer, 75, Catawba, Wi., died on Thursday, October 14, 2016, at the Aspirus Pleasant View Nursing Home, Phillips, while under the care of Flambeau Home Health Care and his family.

He was born on July 3, 1941, in Oaktown, Indiana the son of William Moses and Nellie Ruth (Bennett) Archer.

He spent his early life and schooling in Indiana.

Billy Joe married Lorene Hladish on March 30, 1968. They made their home in the Phillips/Catawba area where they owned and operated Archer’s Lake Ten Campground. He also drove a semi over the road for many companies then became an owner/operator. He logged millions of miles across the United States.

When asked where his favorite place to go on the road was, he replied home. He was a member of the F &AM Masonic Lodge #225, Phillips.

He is survived by his wife Lorene Archer, a daughter Jolene (Mike) Kennedy Westboro, WI, by 3 sons: Marty (Trish) Archer, Marshfield, WI, Billy Moore, Indiana, and Gary Moore, Texas, by 3 grandchildren: Mitch and Harley DeLasky, and Jordanah Pankratz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Percy (Bud) Archer, Harlan (Brownie) Archer, and John (Lindy) Archer, and by seven sisters: Nellie Ruth Meeks, Violet Padgett, Martha Dawn, Betty Ann Kirk, Mary Lou Hardesty, Delores Warth and Jean Beaman.

Mrs. Levi Archer died at her home in Merrillan Sunday, April 10, 1921, aged 82 years. She was born in Allegheny Co, N.Y., her maiden name being Rosila Straight. She was married to Mr. Archer at Hatfield and moved to their farm south of Neillsville, Clark County, Wis., 47 years ago. There Mr. Archer died 32 years ago and after living for a time on the farm, she moved to Neillsville, and later to Merrillan, living a part of the time there and a part with her son, Frank in Racine. She is the last of a large family, twelve brothers and sisters. Mrs. Archer was a lady of culture and refinement. In the days of her health and strength, she was very helpful in the community in every way. She leaves one son, Frank Archer, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Merrillan Tuesday, the remains being brought here for burial in the Neillsville Cemetery beside her husband.

Mrs. Anna Arciszewski, 73, passed away at the hospital at Stanley on Wednesday, March 11, 1959, after a lingering illness.  Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Francis Piekarski at St. Hedwig’s Chapel at ten o’clock March 14th.

The deceased was born in Poland on April 19, 1885.  She came to America in 1902 and has resided in this community since that time.

Surviving her, besides her husband, Frank Arciszewski, are three sons, Leon Tylka of Thorp, Adolph Tylka of Pasadena, Calif., and Stanley Arciszewski of Thorp; five daughters, Mrs. Mike (Lillian) Juzwiak, Stratford, Wis., Mrs. Adam (Josephine) Para, Chicago, Mrs. Tony (Stella) Zukowski, Chicago, Mrs. Stanley (Gertrude) Jasinek, Chicago, and Miss Julia Arciszewski, Thorp;  one sister, Mrs. Mike Bujalski, Chicago, and one brother, Andrew Dziedzak of Berea, Ohio; 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Julia Arciszewski, age 91, of Marshfield, formerly of Thorp, went to Our Lord on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at Golden Living Center --- Three Oaks, in Marshfield. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. of Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev Janusz Kowalski officiated and burial followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held on Wednesday, at the church, from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Julie Arciszewski was born on July 29, 1922, in Thorp, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Dziedziak) Arciszewski.

She was raised on the family farm and educated at Thorp area schools, graduating from Thorp High School. Julia then attended secretarial school in Eau Claire. She was employed at Peoples Exchange Bank in Thorp until 1963, when she moved to Marshfield. She then worked at Central State Bank, in Marshfield, until 1977, when she retired due to ill health. She continued to live in Marshfield until her death.

While in Marshfield she was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and its PCCW the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, and Forum 55. She had a deep devotion to our Lord Jesus, and his Mother Mary. She also loved music, reading, playing the piano and organ, and current events.

She is survived by one sister, Gertrude Jasinek of Oswego, IL; one sister-in-law, Dolores Arciszewski, of Thorp; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, other relatives and friends. She is further survived by her dear friend, Leon Dietel of Marshfield, who was by her side at her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Leo Tylka, Adolph Tylka, and Stanley Arciszewski; four sisters: Lillian Jozwiak, Josephine Para, Stella Zukowski, Helen Arciszewski in infancy; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Stanley J. Arciszewski, age 89, of Thorp, passed away at Oakbrook Health & Rehab, in Thorp, on Friday February 1, 2013. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Rev. Don Meuret officiated and burial followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Travis Wright, Jeff Meyer, lance Haas, Shane Swope, Chad Bohm and Vern Nystrom. Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, at Thorp Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visitation was also held at the church, on Wednesday, Beginning with a 9:30 a.m. rosary service and continuing until 10:30 a.m.

Stanley John Arciszewski was born on January 11, 1924, in Thorp, WI, the son of Frank and Anna (Dziedziak) Arciszewski. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Thorp. Stanley was united in marriage to Dolores Wnek on October 11, 1947, at St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church in Thorp. In 1947, he took over the operation of his family farm, in the Town of Reseburg, and farmed until retiring in 1986. They continued to live on the farm until 2008, at which time they moved to Morgan Plaza.

He was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church and had served as the town supervisor for the Town of Reseburg. Stanley had many interests, including woodworking, especially making bird houses, following local sporting events, the Minnesota Twins and the Green Bay Packers.

Stanley will be dearly missed by his wife, Dolores, of Thorp; his children: Arlene (Dennis) Meyer of Thorp, Nancy (Thomas) Bogumill of Wausau, and Bill (Trish) Arciszewski of Thorp; eight grandchildren: Seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gertrude Jasinek of Montgomery, IL, and Julia Arciszewski of Marshfield, WI; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Colby--Former Colby resident, Albion Arends, 79, Denver, died Saturday at his home.

Services were held in Denver.

He was the son of Andrew and Anna Arends of Colby.  He attended St. Mary's School, Colby, and was a 1926 graduate of Colby High School.

Surviving are his mother, Anna Arends of Colby, a son, two daughters, two grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.

Andrew Arends, 92, Colby (Clark Co., Wis.), died at 11 p.m. Thursday, May 28, 1970.

He died of old age complications at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

A rosary was said at Lulloff Funeral Home in Colby at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services at St. Mary's catholic Church were Tuesday, June 2. At 10 a.m. The Rev. Francis Rushman officiated. He was buried in the parish cemetery.

Andrew Albert Arends was born in Ozaukee County May 24, 1878. He came to this area in 1905 and farmed in the town of Hull (Marathon Co.) until 1960. He has lived in Colby since that time.

His wife, the former Anna Knier, who he married at Hilbert on April 2, 1913, survives. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving children are Mrs. Alfred (Evelyn) Rathke of Paradise, California, Mrs. Lawrence (Irene) Heeg of Heweitt, Albion of Denver, Colorado, Leonard of Marshfield, Andrew Jr. and Walter of Colby, John of Milwaukee, and Leona, at home in Colby. He had 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Joe of Campbellsport and Edward of Portland, Oregon, survive. Deceased are three sisters and three brothers.

MRS. JOHN ARENDS DIES SUNDAY NIGHT
WIFE OF GREENWOOD's CITY CLERK IS VICTIM OF HEART ATTACK

Greenwood--Mrs. John Arends, 56, wife of Greenwood's City Clerk, died suddenly at 11:30 o'clock Sunday night, May 14, 1939, at her home in Greenwood, Clark County. On Sunday afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Arends and the latter's sister, Miss Rue Cummings, had taken the Arends daughter, Miss Theresa Arends, to Eau Claire, where she attends State Teachers College, after spending the weekend with her parents.

About 8:30 o'clock they returned to Greenwood, Mrs. Arends retired as usual. At 11 o'clock she awoke and a doctor was summoned when she complained of illness. She died a half hour later. Death was attributed to a heart attack.

She had been in poor health since Dec. 1937, when she suffered a stroke, but had recovered sufficiently to be up and about.
Mrs. Arends, nee Gladys Mary Cummings, was born April 15, 1883 in Greenwood, where she had lived all her life. She was graduated from Greenwood High School with the class of 1902, and had taught school for eight years.

She was married at Neillsville to John Arends Oct. 12, 1910. Surviving besides her husband are one daughter, Miss Theresa Arends two brothers, Charles, Tomahawk, and Eugene, Glendive, Mont. and two sisters, Mrs. O. C. Behrens and Miss Rue Cummings, both of Greenwood.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Funeral services for Mrs. John Arends were conducted at the M.E. Church, Thursday afternoon, May 18, 1939 at 2 o’clock, Rev. C.R. Gaylord officiated. The choir composed of Mr. and Mrs. James Slauson, Mmes. Geo. Haeuser, Irving Sherman, Chal Perkins and Harold Stabnow, sang “The Old rugged Cross” accompanied by Miss Mabel Bishop at the piano. Mrs. Louis Behrens and Mrs. Albert Dahl sang “In The Garden” accompanied by Miss Bishop at the piano. She was laid to rest in the Greenwood Cemetery.

She then attended Oshkosh Normal and taught school for 8 years prior to her marriage. She was a charter member of the Greenwood Woman Club and for many years a member of the Library Board. She was also a member of the Methodist Church, Ladies Aid and taught a Sunday school class for many years.

She is survived by her husband and daughter, Theresa, two brothers, Eugene Cummings, Lindsey, Mont.; Charles Cummings, Tomahawk; and two sisters, Mrs. O.C. Behrens and Miss Rue Cummings, both of Greenwood.

The honorary pallbearers were Ed Buker, Albert Shanks, Harold Stabnow, Herbert Schwarze, Dr. Loren Giswold and W.F. Nuenfeldt.

The pallbearers were Louis Stoneberg, Arley Syth, Art Syth, Earl Sloniker, Harry Stafford and Ray Kauffman of Loyal. The active pallbearers were boys who went to school to her when she was teaching.

The flower girls were Misses Joyce Gaylord, Lorina Humke, Ruth Turnquist, Frances Scholler and Mmes. Art Christie and Julian Horgan.

JOHN ARENDS SR. DIED ON MONDAY

A kind old gentleman who had a wide acquaintance in Ozaukee County was called to his reward at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 1935, when John Arends departed this life at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Arends, at Barton. Mr. Arends suffered a hip fracture on April 22 while visiting in the Arends home and for a number of weeks had been a patient in St. Joseph's Hospital, West Bend. Three weeks ago he was brought to his son's home, where everything was done to bring comfort to the aged gentleman in his declining years. Old age, however, had sapped his strength and after being confined to bed steadily since the accident, he passed away peacefully Monday morning.

Mr. Arends was born in the tow of Saukville on April 5, 1851 and accordingly attained an age of 84 years. He spent his childhood in the Town of Saukville. When he attained maturity he was married to Miss Theresa Meyer, the ceremony being performed at Holy Cross. They establish their home on a farm several mile southwest of Random Lake. Seventeen years ago they came to Port Washington to live. Mr. Arends then made his home with his children.

They were the parents of 10 children, six surviving, namely, John of Greenwood, Clark County, Wis. Andrew of Colby Elizabeth (Mrs. Peter Kias) of Port Washington, Joseph of Barton Edward of Portland, Ore. and Catherine (Mrs. Jacob Kias) of the town Fredonia. He also leaves a brother, Nicholas, of Napther, S.D., a sister, Mrs. Lena Bruecher of Chicago, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Church, Barton, Friday morning at 9 o'clock, Rev. Aloys Klas of Wauwatosa, grandson of the deceased officiated at a solemn requiem high mass, assisted by Rev. Grossheck of St. Joseph's Hospital, West Bend, and Rev. F. Ruhmann. The remains were interred in the cemetery at Dacada. Rev. Klas also officiated at the interment ceremony.

Mr. Arends was a man of excellent habits, fine moral character, and sturdy constitution, and he continued to be active in his accustomed pursuits until long past the age at which men ordinarily drop out of the ranks of the workers. He was kind and provident to his children and the grief that is felt over the close of his long career is widespread and sincere. His best monument will be the good report that he has left behind him in the various communities where he resided. Honor to his memory. (West Bend Pilot)

Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Albion Arends, 65, of Aurora, Colo.  The former Louise Taylor of Stevens Point died Wednesday of a heart attack.

Surviving are her husband, Albion Arends, a native of Colby; one son and two daughters.

Mrs. John Arends Dies Suddenly

Residents of this city were shocked Monday morning to hear of the death of Mrs. John Arends the evening before. Mrs. Arends has not been in good health for the past two years but had attended church that morning and with her husband and sister, Miss Rue Cummings had taken their daughter, Theresa, who attends Teachers College at Eau Claire, and who had spent the week end at home, had driven to Eau Claire that afternoon. They returned about 8:30 and Mrs. Arends retired as usual. At 11 o'clock she awoke with a chocking spell. Dr. Olson was summoned but she passed away about 11:30 P.M. Sunday, May 14, 1939. The cause of her death being a heart attack.

Edward Arendt, 58, died at the Clark Co. Hospital at Owen, Wis., on Sunday morning, Feb. 22, 1959.  Rosary services were held Tuesday evening at the Thorp Funeral Home and funeral services took place at St. Hedwig’s Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.  Burial was in St. Hedwig’s Old Cemetery.

COLBY -- Gordon William Armbrust, 92, Colby, died Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2006, at his home.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, North Green Grove. Burial with full military rites by Colby VFW Post 2227 will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Gordon was born Sept. 12, 1914, in Truman, Minn., to William and Lydia (Mildbrandt) Armbrust. Gordon served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Gordon and Ruth Backlund were married Sept. 14, 1965, and later divorced. He farmed in Minnesota and later in Colby.

Gordon is survived by his children John, Barb, Cheryl, Les, Lonnie and Lori; nine grandchildren; one sister Fern; and four brothers, Albert, Ray, Billy and Harvey.

Gordon William Armbrust, 92, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at his Colby residence.

A memorial service for Gordon was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2006, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Green Grove. Reverend Dr. Paul. C. Hunsicker presided. Burial was with full military rites by the Colby VFW #2227 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation with family and friends was held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until time of services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Maurina-Community Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Gordon was born September 12, 1914, in Truman, MN, the son of William and Lydia (Mildrandt) Armbrust.

Gordon serviced his country in the US Army as a medic during WWII in Iraq, Iran and India.

Gordon and Ruth (Backlund) were united in marriage on September 14, 1965. They farmed in Minnesota and in 1967 moved to Colby to continue farming.

He helped with the hot lunch program at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Colby. Gordon was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a life-time member of the Colby VFW Post #2227.

Ruth E. Armbrust, 92, of Medford passed into eternal life on Sunday, January 14 at Aspirus Country Gardens in Medford where she had resided for the past 1½ years; most recently under the care of Hope Hospice.

Memorial services for Ruth will be at 11 am on Friday, January 19, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medford, with Father Phil Juza officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery, Medford. Her grandson, Ben Knopp will serve as urn bearer. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the time of services at 11 am at the church.

Ruth was born on November 13, 1925 in Stetsonville to the late John and Mary (Rudolph) Docter. She went to Stetsonville elementary schools and was a 1942 graduate of Medford High School. Her marriage to Robert F. Armbrust took place on May 30, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville. He preceded her in death August 2, 2014.

Prior to her marriage, Ruth worked at Farmers State Bank in Stetsonville. After her marriage and the return of her husband from WWII, she devoted herself to being a wife and mother. While her children were young, she helped with the family business, Armbrust Meats, by doing the bookkeeping. In later years, she spent many hours working beside Bob at “the shop”. She enjoyed camping, boating on Lake Superior, fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles, sewing, curling, golfing, bowling, swimming, watching any Wisconsin sports team, traveling, spending winter months in Arizona, playing cards, and being a ‘Reading Grandma’. Ruth always treated others with kindness and had a delightful sense of humor. Her family was her pride and joy. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church of Medford and the Ladies of Holy Rosary.

She is survived by her children – Mike (Sally) Armbrust of Madison, Tom (Mary) Armbrust, Jeff (Michele) Armbrust & Susan (Rick) Knopp, all of Medford, JoAnne (Don) Faust of Black Earth and Becky (Doug) Leclair of La Crosse; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren—21st on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Mary Agnes Armbrust in infancy, a grand- daughter, Kristina Knopp, and her siblings, Mary Ann Schiller, Art Docter, Mildred McNamar, and Mabel Newton.

The younger child, John Willis, born March 8th, 1933, died on Monday evening, three years old, lacking two days, and his sister, Beverly Jean, born November 30, 1931, died eleven hours later on Tuesday morning.

The greatness of grief is also intensified by the fact that the mother of the children is confined to her bed with the same disease and is a grave condition.

The two children are survived by their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Armitage, who have the sympathy of a wide circle of friends, and by their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Gower of Granton, Wisconsin, and by their grandmother, Mrs. Geo. *Iffland of Alma Center, Wisconsin. *This surname could be off in spelling, it was blurred.

Funeral services will be conducted from the Lowe Funeral Home on Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, the Rev. Paul B. White, officiating, and burial will take place in the local cemetery.

NEILLSVILLE -- Mrs. Doris A. Armitage, 73, Route 3, was dead on arrival Tuesday at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

She was born December 9, 1907 in Alma Center to Mr. and Mrs. Lee (Ida Wilding) Gower. She received her education in the Humbird Schools and graduated from Humbird High School. She attended Stevens Point College and taught school for several years in the Alma Center and Spencer area.

She was married to Lisle C. Armitage October 28, 1929 in Neillsville. The couple farmed in the town of Weston, Clark County, for many years. After the death of her husband on January 31, 1977, she continued to live on the farm.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Jeneda) Mickelson of Forest Lake, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Otto (Vera) Penzenstadler of Youngstown, Arizona and Mrs. Theo Crume of Neillsville; two brothers, Irving Gower of Granton and Glen Gower of Marshfield; and three grandchildren.

She was a member of United Methodist Church, Christie, and the Women's Society of Christian Service.

Services will be Friday at United Methodist Church, Christie. The Rev. Donald L. Adams will officiate and burial will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Friends may call at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville.

Robert Dale Armitage, loving husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully on January 5, 2019 in the company of his family.

Robert was born May 14, 1942, to Dale and Bethel (Asplin) Armitage of Neillsville. Bob received his elementary education at Humbird, then the family returned to Neillsville where he attended high school. He played football and was a member of the high school band, later graduating from Neillsville High School.

Bob enjoyed elk, deer and pheasant hunting, golfing, fishing and skiing, and gardening.

He was CEO of the Board of Social Ministry. He was a man of honor, integrity and kindness, and taught others through his faithful example of a life well-lived.

Survived by wife of 51 years, Kathy; sons, Dale (Krista) and Dan; grandchildren, Matthew, Alex, Eli, Emma; brother, Neil (Corinne) Armitage; nieces, nephews, friends.

Preceded in death by parents, Dale and Bethel; brother, Tom; nephew, Ben.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday Jan. 11, 2019 at Bradshaw, 2800 Curve Crest Blvd, Stillwater, and an hour prior to service at church on Saturday. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church, 150 5th Street, Marine on St. Croix.

On Thursday April 4, 1912, Willis K. Armitage died at his home in the town of Weston, Clark County, death coming very suddenly from heart failure. He was born in Dodge Co., Wis., Jan. 1, 1851, being the son of Joseph and Mary Sykes Armitage, natives of Lancashire, England. He was married to Miss Susannah Timerson, a daughter of Jacob and Eliza Millholland Timerson, Jan. 1, 1874. They moved to Clark County in the fall of 1882, and located on the farm where he has since resided. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Willis J. and Robert Bruce, and one grandson, Lyle Armitage, all of Weston. One daughter Rosa Belle, died in infancy. Three brothers and two sisters are also living: Sykes P. Armitage of Rose Lawn, Wis., Joseph and Robert of Harrison, Ark., Mrs. Phoebe Tubbs of Seymour, Wis., and Mrs. Frances Tremaine of Oconomowoc.

Mrs. Armitage was a man of high moral purpose, living in a quiet way up to his standard of life; doing each days’ duties with honesty and sincerity, and meeting with hopeful faith and trust life’s fortunes and misfortunes. Although he never formally united with any church, he lived sincerely his Christian principles and gave his loyal support to the Methodist Church near where he lived. Funeral services were held at the home Sunday. The roads were so impassible that the M.E. Pastor could not attend, nor burial take place that day. E.J. Griffith, who actively assists in the church work at Christie, delivered the funeral address. On Tuesday, burial took place at Neillsville, Rev. Prucia conducting the services at the grave. The family wishes to offer their sincere thanks to all the friends and neighbors who in so many ways gave them sympathy and help, and especially appreciate Mr. Griffith’s timely assistance and words of comfort and hope.

Willis K. Armitage died last Thursday morning at his home at Christie after an illness of but a few hours.
 

Mr. Armitage was born in Dodge Co., Wis., Jan. 1, 1851, the son of Joseph and Mary Sykes Armitage, both natives of Lancanshire, England.  He was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools of Dodge Co.  He came to this county in the fall of 1882 and located on the farm where he has since resided.
 

Mr. Armitage was married Jan. 1, 1874, to Susannh Timerson, a daughter of Jacob and Eliza Millholland Timerson.  Mr. Armitage is survived by his wife, two sons, Willis J. and Robert Bruce, one grandson, Lyle Armitage, all of this place.  One daughter, Rosa Belle, died in infancy.  Three brothers and two sisters also survive.  Sykes P. Although Mr. Armitage never united with any church he lived an earnest Christian life and was a loyal supporter of the Methodist church.  He was a man of the highest integrity and lived a life the memory of which will remain for many years.  He was highly respected in his own neighborhood and also in this city where he had many friends.  Mr. Armitage was busied in the Neillsville cemetery last Tuesday afternoon.

Elaine Virginia Armstrong, 89, of Ladysmith, passed peacefully Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018 at Rusk County Memorial Hospital.

Elaine was born on Jan. 17, 1929, in Glen Flora, to Noble and Edith Barstad. She graduated from Ingram High School in 1946. She married James Russel Armstrong on Sept. 11, 1954 at United Methodist Church of Ladysmith.

Elaine worked for years as a bookkeeper at Gustafson Dairy before running the Gerard Hotel in Ladysmith with her husband.

After adopting her two sons Elaine became a homemaker. She was able to continue her love of sewing, gardening, baking, and biking while raising her sons. She will be remembered for many things, but volunteering and giving to others was part of her soul.

Elaine was a longtime member of numerous organizations, serving countless hours in the community, including hospital and nursing home auxiliary, Kinship, serving at the Ladysmith Senior Citizen Center, delivering meals on wheels, an active member of her church and women’s fellowship and the city planning commission.

When she wasn’t busy volunteering Elaine devoted much of her later life to her grandchildren, Mariah (Ryan) Gerber, Markus, Matthew and Caitlin.

She is survived by her two sons, Jon (Meg) Armstrong and Tom (Janet) Armstrong, four grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim; her sisters, Pearl Christman and Arlene Lamoureux and her brother, Bob Barstad.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at United Congregational Church with Pastor David Bowles officiating.

Memorial gifts in Elaine’s memory may be made to the Hospital and Nursing Home Auxiliary of Ladysmith.

Jeffrey “Jeff” A. Armstrong, 54, died Oct. 14 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, Wausau where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.

Funeral services were held at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford with Rev. David Clements officiating. Burial took place at Perkinstown Community Cemetery, in the town of Grover. Visitation took place at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20 and also from 10 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Derek Bice, Scott Williams, Jeff Rouiller, Jason Romig, Blake Dums, Bob Christianson, and Tyler Christianson served as pallbearers.

Jeffrey Armstrong was born on Feb. 25, 1961 at Medford to Clara Frieda (Leuthy) and Jolly L. Armstrong. He attended Hannibal Elementary schools and was a 1979 graduate of Gilman High School, where he was class valedictorian.

On March 19, 1988 he married Lori Gavinski at All Saints Church in Oak Creek. They were later divorced after 17 years of marriage.

After his education, he moved to Milwaukee where he worked for Routh Construction as a rough carpenter. He then went on to work at Harland Check Printing in Waukesha for 10 years. He then worked as a Union Carpenter and built homes in the Waukesha area until an accident forced an early retirement in 2004. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bow leagues, riding ATV and anything outdoors. He was a member of Golden Arrow Bow Club of Waukesha.

He is survived by daughters, Nicole Armstrong of Mukwonago, Jamie Armstrong and Jacolyn “Jackie” Armstrong both of Greenfield; sisters, Peggy (Duane) Dassow of Burlington, Connie (Ray) Griesbach of Rhinelander; a twin brother, Jan (Barb) Armstrong of Medford and brother, Fred E. (Kelly) Emstrom of Medford. He is further survived by nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Fred G. Emstrom.

John Armstrong, 70, Park Falls, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at Park Manor Nursing Home, Park Falls.

He was born May 27, 1937, in Hudson, the son of Donald and Margaret (Burkholder) Armstrong.

His early life and schooling were in Abbotsford, Wis. John then earned a degree in music from UW-Eau Claire, Wis.

On Feb 29, 1964, he married Gloria Mantik.

In 1962 he came to Park Falls and was called to active duty in the United States Army during the Berlin Crisis. John was a music teacher in Park Falls for two years and then owned and operated the House of Music store from 1964-1981. He co-owned and operated Flambeau Lanes in 1983. John was active in the community and belonged to many clubs and organizations.

He is survived by three children, Julie (Tom) Radlinger, Butternut, James (Judy) Armstrong, Prairie du Chien and Jodi (Paul) Krause, Edgar; seven grandchildren; and a brother, William (Nancy) Armstrong, Madison.

A memorial service was held Nov. 9 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Park Falls. The Rev. Mary Jo Laabs presided.

Private interment took place.

ABBOTSFORD--Mrs. Sitonia (Tony) Armstrong, 93, of Abbotsford, Clark County, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 2, 1972, at the Marshfield Convalescent Center, where she had resided the past several years.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lulloff Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kuen Won Park, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating and burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery at Greenwood.

Visitations may be made at the Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby beginning Friday evening.

The former Sitonia Limprecht was born Jan. 28, 1879, in Greenwood, and was married there July 10, 1898 to Allen Armstrong, who preceded her in death in January of 1946. The couple resided in Clark County and in later years she had made her home in Abbotsford.
Survivors include two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Amelia Arndt, wife of Herman Arndt, passed away at her home in the town of Hewett Sunday night, aged 68 years, 9 months and 3 days.

Mrs. Arndt was born in Germany and came to this country with her parents when she was four years old, the family settling at Highcliff, Calumet County, Wis.

In 1884 she was married in Calumet County to Herman Arndt. In 1908 they came to Clark County and bought the Cornwell farm west of the river, which they sold later. In 1918 they bought the Robert McCalvy farm on Highway 10 in Pine Valley where they lived until April 1932, when they sold the place and bought their present farm in Hewett.

About four years ago, Mrs. Arndt underwent an operation for cancer, which was apparently successful, but a recurrence of the disease was the cause of her death.

Besides her husband she leaves ten children: Louise, Mrs. Wm. Funk, Menasha; George on the farm in the town of Menasha; Herman in Neenah; August in Menasha; Annie, Mrs. Fred Milligan, Wausau; Charlie in Oshkosh; William at home; Amelia, Mrs. K. Grabe, town of York; Raymond at home; Olive, Mrs. Wm. Oldham, Jr., Neenah; Arthur and Freddie, deceased.

She leaves also 24 grandchildren.

The funeral was held today Wednesday at the Methodist church in Neillsville, Rev. P. B. White officiating.

Mrs. Bertha Arndt (nee Rahm) died at the home of her brother Charles in Loyal, Clark County, Wis., Friday evening Feb. 18, 1921 at the age of 55 years, 6 months and 21 days.

Mrs. Arndt was born in Germany July 28, 1865. She came to America with her parents in 1881. In the year of 1885 she was married to Mr. Frederick Arndt, who died about twenty years ago. To this union were born two sons, Fred and august of Random Lake, Wis., and one daughter, Ida of Minneapolis, Minn., besides these children she leaves to mourn her loss three brothers, Charles of Loyal, August of Veefkind, Edward of Beshler, Ohio and one sister, Mrs. Emma Bredleau of Veefkind, and two grandchildren.

She was a great sufferer the greater part of her life, but bore it all bravely until the end.

The funeral services were held at the Veefkind Lutheran Church Monday Feb. 21st at 2 p.m., Rev. Matter officiating and burial took place in the church cemetery.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved relatives their deepest sympathy in their hour of sorrow.

Betty Arndt, age 87, of LaCrosse, formerly of Neillsville, died Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at the LaCrescent health Care Center in LaCrescent, MN.

Betty Virginia Arndt was born September 22, 1918 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Roy and Minnie Wilson. She was united in marriage to Robert Janke and they owned and operated a tavern called the Old Mill in Okauchee, WI. Robert died and Betty remarried Elmer Gormanson. They lived in Stone Bank, WI. Betty worked for 20 years at Heartland Plastics in Heartland, WI. They later moved to Neillsville, Wis. After Elmer’s death Betty was remarried to Clyde Arndt. They were married 15 years before Clyde died in 2004. Betty continued living in Neillsville until May of 2005 when she moved to LaCrosse to be near her daughter.

Betty was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, Wis. She was also a member of the Haugen-Richmond American Legion Post #73 Auxillary in Neillsville, Wis. Her pastimes included crocheting and reading.

She is survived by one son, Bill Janke of Pewaukee; one daughter, Barb (Ivan) Lutz of Hokah, MN; two step-sons, Gene (Mary) Gormanson and Keith (Nancy) Gormanson, both of Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Janke, Elmer Gormanson and Clyde Arndt; one sister and one brother.

Funeral Services for Betty were held Monday, December 19, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated. Interment was in the West Weston Cemetery.

Casket bearers were: Ivan Lutz, Bill Janke, Gene and Keith Gormanson, Kerry Landers and Pete Purvis.

Gesche Funeral Home assisted Betty’s family with funeral arrangements.

Betty V. Arndt

Betty Arndt, 87, La Crosse, formerly of Neillsville, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at La Crescent Health Care Center in La Crescent, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, 2005, at Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Interment will be in West Weston Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Betty Virginia Arndt was born Sept. 22, 1918, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of Roy and Minnie Wilson. NEILLSVILLE -- Mrs. Caroline E. Arndt, 60, of Route 3, Neillsville died Sunday at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

Services will be Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville. The Rev. Gary L. Clark of United Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the Town of Seif Cemetery.

She was born September 20, 1922 in the Town of Pine Valley, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Clara Baldwin) Wiesner. She received her education in Neillsville area schools. She was employed in Neillsville before moving to Ohio, where she lived for 20 years. In 1972 she returned to Neillsville and was employed at the Model Laundry until retiring a year ago.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Rose Arndt of Neillsville; a half-sister, Hazel Wiesner of Glendive, Montana; a brother, Leo Wiesner Sr. of Neillsville; and two half-brothers, Claude Wiesner, address unknown, and Raymond Alberts of Osseo.

She was predeceased by four sisters, Florence, Dorothy, Mary and Loretta.

Emma (William) Arndt, 87, passed away Aug. 3, 2010, at Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Emma Louise Aldinger was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Columbus to Ed and Pearl (Rush) Aldinger.  She moved with her parents to the Alma Center/Merrillan area when she was five.  She attended Avon and Houghtonburg grade schools and graduated from Alma Center High School.  She worked in Graf’s (Grocery) in Merrillan and also worked for Cutler-Hammer in Milwaukee.

She married William C. Arndt June 22, 1943, in Alma Center.  She went to live with her air force husband in California in 1944.  She then moved to Grand Forks, ND, for a year.  In 1947 she moved to the Neillsville area, and then to Tomahawk for a year, where she and her husband were employed by Kurt Marg Fur Foods.  She moved with her family in 1951 to their town of Hewett farm.  She and her husband farmed there until 1986.  They sold the farm and moved into Neillsville in January of 1992.

Emma is survived by her two sons, Duane (Mary) of Hayward and Garry (Judy) of Huber Heights, OH; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Aldinger of Merrillan and one sister, Marlene (Earl) Dayton of Neillsville; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and two sisters.

She will be cremated and her remains will be committed to the Hewettville Cemetery (Columbia Cemetery in the Township of Hewett) at a later date.

Arndt, Fernie (1898? - 16 Mar 1907)

Fernie Arndt, eight-year-old son of Fred Arndt of Maplehurst, who it will be remembered by many in this village (Loyal, Clark County, Wis.), was a resident here a little over a year ago, and Ernest Anderson, eleven years old, were instantly killed last Saturday evening between four and five o'clock at the Maplehurst Saw Mill.

They were gathering spruce gum from the logs at the bottom of the roll way when it broke from above and participated ten or twelve logs down upon them and crushed them to death. Their bodies were not found until on-half hour after the accident. Two of the employees of the mill, wishing to see what damage had been done to the roll way, found their dead bodies among the logs. The bodies were immediately taken to the office and an inquest held, after which they were taken to their homes.

The remains were brought to this village on Tuesday evening and the funeral services were held at the M. E. church on Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock and the remains laid to rest in the cemetery back of the church.

It is hard to bear the loss of a loved one when they linger with sickness for a number of days or weeks, but to have his corpse brought to the door when he left that same afternoon in perfect health makes it a double burden to the bereaved family.

When death strikes down the innocent and young, for every fragile form from which hel lets the parting spirit free, a hundred virtues rise.

The family has the sympathy of the entire community in their sad bereavement.

Frank William Arndt, Route 2, Withee, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley. He was 76 years of age.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home in Owen. Officiating was Rev. Douglas R. Groenewold, pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Withee. Burial was made in Riverside Cemetery.

Mr. Arndt was born July 22, 1899 in Rock Island, Illinois. He married the former Myrtle Robersen on December 20, 1926, at Withee.

He came to the Withee area at the age of 6. He had a coal business and scrap metal business in Owen from 1934 to 1953, when he moved to a farm in the Town of Hixon.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, George, Caledonia, and Kenneth and Robert, both at home; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Mengel, Neillsville, Mrs. Harvey (Velda) Anderson, Withee, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Anderson, Owen, and Mrs. Wayne (Dolly) Lindberg, Abbotsford; a sister, Mrs. Ruth Evan, Fox River Grove, Ill.; a brother, Wesley, Janesville; a half-sister, Mrs. George (Ruby) Peterson, Chippewa Falls; a half-brother, Alfred Arndt, Owen; 23 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and three grandchildren.

It is with great sadness that the family of George W. Arndt announces his passing on Sunday September 15th, at his home in Neillsville.

He was the first born to Clyde & Juanita Arndt on 8/12/1946. George graduated high school in Menasha, in 1964. He went on to serve his country in the Navy on the CVA-60... USS Saratoga. He was honorably discharged and returned home where he met and married the love of his life, Dawn Marie Arndt.

During their 57 years of marriage, they had two children, Joey D Arndt (Laura) of Stevens Point and Jolie H Tlusty (Mark Tlusty Jr.) of Neillsville. George's heart was so big he gained another daughter Erickah C Cashell of Neillsville, and son Chad A French (Terri) of Shiocton.

After 27 years of service with the Menasha Utilities, George & Dawn moved to Neillsville. George was not the type to settle down, working an additional 5 years for the Clark County Court House.

George loved fishing, hunting, and his dogs. He especially enjoyed telling jokes and old stories while having some cold ones with his family and friends.

He is further survived by his two grandchildren, David Van Linn and Mercedes Quandt, great granddaughter Meadow Quandt-Sternal, his brother, Bill Arndt (Gina) & their children, Heidi Arndt Marks & Haley Arndt.

He will be missed dearly by his wife Dawn, his children Joey, Jolie, & Erickah, his son-in-law and best friend Mark Tlusty Jr., Mark's sons Shawn and Paul Tlusty, and their families.

A Celebration of George's life will be held at the home of Mark Jr and Jolie Tlusty (W7667 South Mound Road, Neillsville) on Saturday October 19th beginning at 2 P.M.

Funeral services for Gust Arndt who died Tuesday night April 30 at the Wisconsin General hospital at Madison were conducted Friday afternoon from the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. Powell of Owen officiating. Internment took place in the Holton cemetery.

Rev. and Mrs. Powell sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages."

Mr. Arndt was born in New York, May 16, 1863 and was married to Florence Sannard of Abbotsford on June 16, 1896. To this union three children were born, one son, Lawrence, preceding him in death.

The deceased and his wife moved to Abbotsford in 1906 and have made their home here ever since with the exception of living on a farm near Stetsonville for four years.

He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, Florence Arndt, Abbotsford; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Whaples, Owen and Mrs. Fred Waldhart, Stetsonville; one sister, Mrs. Jim Perkins, St. Paul; and three brothers, Julius of Edgar, Louis of Douglas, Calif., and William of Louisiana; also five grandchildren.

The pallbearers were Louis Miller, Don Ingersoll, Walter Jackson, H. J. Amacher, Harvey Bitters and Ferdinand Marks.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral included Mrs. Jim Perkins, St. Paul; Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Waller, Merrill; Mrs. Gertrude Burkhardt, Wausau and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Arndt and son of Wausau.

Mr. Arndt was a loving husband and a kind father, and was held in esteem by his many friends. He will be missed greatly by his friends and many others.

Funeral services for Herman Arndt were held Saturday, August 13, 1949, at the Bergemann Funeral Home, and at 2:30 at the Methodist Church. The Rev. Virgil Nulton officiated, and interment was made in Neillsville City Cemetery.

He had been ill two years, and died in a Madison hospital.

Mr. Arndt was born March 9, 1863, in Germany. He came to this country when he was 11 years old, and to Clark County about 40 years ago. He was a retired farmer.

On October 30, 1883, he was married to Amelia Luedtke at High Cliff. She preceded him in death 16 years ago.

Twelve children were born to this union, six of whom survive. They are: Mrs. William (Louise) Funk of Menasha; Mrs. William (Annie) Beck of Tomahawk; Charles Arndt of Oshkosh; Mrs. Kenneth (Amelia) Grabe of Menasha; Raymond Arndt of East Grand Forks, Minn.; and Mrs. William (Olive) Oldham, Neillsville. Twenty-two grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren also survive.

Pallbearers were: Leslie Milton, Charles Schultz, Otto Dux, Fred Dux, Edwin Allen and James Milton.

Mrs. Guy Schultz and Mrs. Tony Hantke were in charge of the flowers. Miss Janice Milton sang two selections accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Nulton at the piano.

Relatives and friends from out-of-town attending the rites were: Mr. and Mrs. William Funk, Harold Funk, and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Grabe, all of Menasha; Mr. and Mrs. William Beck of Tomahawk; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Arndt of Oshkosh; Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Arndt of East Grand Forks, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grabe of Milwaukee; Florence Cornish, state of Washington; and Mrs. Lorraine Veile of Fond du Lac.

John A. Arndt, age 43, of Withee, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2016.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Withee. Rev. Tom Myhre will officiate.

Interment to be held at Longwood Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome from 9:00 AM until time of service Saturday at the church.

John was born on March 5, 1973, the son of Allen and Janice (Anderson) Arndt in Stanley.

He graduated from Owen-Withee High School in 1991. John worked for various restaurants.

John enjoyed playing on the computer, especially Facebook, watching movies and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan.

John is survived by his parents, Allen and Janice of Withee; his sister, Sonia (Damian) Lewis and his two nieces, Jayden and Danica of South Dakota; maternal grandparents, Harvey and Velda Anderson of Withee.

He is further survived by aunts and uncles: Billy (April) Anderson, Diane Anderson, Donald Arndt, Robert Arndt, Terry (Kathy) Arndt, Larry (Jan) Arndt, David (Terri) Arndt, Judy (Jack) Oliver and Linda Arndt; many cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Alfred and Bertha Arndt; two uncles, Ronald Anderson and Carl Arndt.

Rev. Loren Hickerson conducted funeral services on Monday, January 11, at the United Church of Christ for Marian E. Arndt, 73 of Neillsville. Mrs. Arndt passed away suddenly on Friday morning, January 8.

Deon Spangler accompanied the UCC Senior Choir. Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sam Ray, Pink Van Gorden, Art Drescher, Robert Lulloff, Thad Zajac and Kenneth Olson.

The former Marian Huntley was born in Neillsville on July 6, 1914, the daughter of Grover and Ella A. (Schultz) Huntley. After graduating with the Neillsville High School Class of 1932, she taught at Dells Dam School for several years and also was employed at Clark County Insurance Agency for many years.

On September 29, 1945, she married Raymond A. Arndt, in Neillsville, and they moved to Thorp where she worked at Mid-State Insurance Agency. After the death of her husband on June 29, 1967, she continued working until retirement when she returned to Neillsville. She was a very active member of the United Church of Christ and its Sewing Circle.

Surviving is a son, Gene Zaske of Excelsior, MN; her mother Ella A. Huntley of Neillsville; and two granddaughters, Lynn and Cheryl. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her father and a son, Robert.

Arndt, Nellie (8 June 1905 - 1 April 1977)

Mrs. Raymond C. (Nellie) Arndt, 71, of East Grand Rapids, Mn., died April 1 at a hospital there. The former Nellie Peabody was born June 8, 1905, at Grand Forks, ND. And graduated from Central High School and also from a business college there. Her marriage to Raymond Arndt took place November 2, 1927, at Grand Forks. The couple farmed in Minnesota and on Rt. 2 Neillsville, in the Town of Hewett, for several years. They operated the North Star Trailer Court in East Grand Forks until 1971 when they moved to Park Rapids, Mn. While there, they were caretakers of Northern Pines assemble grounds. The Arndts retired and moved to East Grand Forks in January of this year.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include one son, Raymond, Jr., and one brother, three sisters, five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Burial was in East Grand Forks on April 5.

Funeral services was held on Monday, July 3rd, 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ at Neillsville. Mr. Arndt was born March 18, 1910 at Granton, Wis. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1928 and took an Ag short course at the U. of W. He worked for Dairyland Power Co-op at La Crosse since 1949. He was united in marriage to Marian Huntley on September 29, 1945. Ray was past Master of Thorp F & A M and Commandery.

Surviving beside his wife Marian is one step son, Gene Zaske of Minneapolis; two grandchildren Cheryl and Lynn Zaske; three brothers Herbert Arndt, Portland, Oregon, Chester Arndt, Hailey, Idaho; Ervin Arndt, Gerber, California; two sisters, Mrs. James MacDonough, Redding, Calif., and Mrs. Ernie Lynch, Arroyo Grande, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents August and Rose (Sternitzky) Arndt and one brother Clifford.

Funeral services were held Monday from the United Church in Neillsville for Raymond A. Arndt, 57, of Thorp, who died last Thursday in Thorp. The Rev. W. C. Koehler officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Arndt was born March 18, 1910, in Clark County, son of the late August and Rose (Sternitzky) Arndt. He attended Neillsville schools and was graduated from Neillsville High School in 1928. He attended the short course in agriculture at the University of Wisconsin. On September 29, 1945, he was married to the former Marian Huntley in Neillsville.

He worked in Milwaukee a few years, returning to this area, where he was employed by the Clark Electric Cooperative at Greenwood. He had been with the Dairyland Power Cooperative since 1949. The Arndts moved from Neillsville to Thorp in 1951.

He was a member of the Stanley Chapter, No. 128, Order of Eastern Star; Thorp Lodge, No. 264, Free and Associated Masons, of which he was a past master; Neillsville Commandery, No. 30, Knights Templar; and Loyal Order of Moose, No. 680, of Thorp. He also was a past patron of the Order of Eastern Star.

Masonic and Eastern Star services were held Sunday evening at the Georgas Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Gene Zaeske of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. James (Alice) McDonough of Redding, Cal., and Mrs. Ernest (Emily) Lynch of Arroyo Grande, Cal.; three brothers, Herbert of Portland, Ore., Chester of Hailey, Ida., and Ervin of Gerber, Cal.; and by two grandchildren.

Ray Arndt, 57, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 1967.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 3rd, 1:30 p.m. at United Church of Christ at Neillsville.

Mr. Arndt was born March 18, 1910 at Granton (Clark Co.), Wis. He graduated from Neillsville High School in 1928 and took an ag. Short course at the U. of W. He worked for Dairyland Power Co-op of La Crosse since 1949. He was united in marriage to Marian Huntley on Sept. 29, 1945. Ray was past Master of Thorp F & AM; Past Worth Patron, Stanley Eastern Star; member of Thorp Moose Club; Neillsville Chapter F & AM and Commandery.

Surviving besides his wife Marian, is one step son, Gene Zaske of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Cheryl and Lynn Zaske; three brothers, Herbert Arndt, Portland, Ore., Chester Arndt, Hailey, Idaho, Ervin Arndt, Gerber, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. James McDonough, Redding, Calif., and Mrs. Ernie Lynch, Arroyo Grande, Calif.. He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Rose (Sternitzky) Arndt, and one brother, Clifford.

Robert R. Arndt, 65, Spencer, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020, at his residence. A celebration of life gathering will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., on Saturday, July 18, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford.

Robert was born on Aug. 17, 1954, the son of Alfred and Bertha (nee Oates) Arndt, in Stanley. Robert worked for Land O’ Lakes for more than 30 years. He married Diane Roytek on Sept. 29, 1979. They were later divorced. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed talking with people. But his greatest love was his family, especially his grandson.

Robert is survived by his son, Micheal (Mary) Arndt of Athens; his grandson, Browning; his siblings: Allen (Janice) Arndt, Diane Anderson, Donald Arndt, Terry (Cathy) Arndt, Larry (Jan) Arndt, David (Terri) Arndt, Judy (Jack) Oliver and Linda Arndt (Kevin); his best friend, Ron Kromanaker; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Hunter (10/9/2003-11/18/2003); a nephew, John Arndt; and a brother, Carl Arndt.

WILLIAM ARNDT LAID TO REST WEDNESDAY

A sudden death came to William Fred Arndt, 76 years and 4 days of age, at his farm home north of the city Sunday morning when he was stricken with a heart attack. As he was doing chores he felt weak and went into the house where death came to him shortly.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28, at two o'clock from the Griebenow Funeral parlors. Interment was made in the Riverside cemetery.

William Fred Arndt was born in Germany on August 21, 1864. When but a child of three years he came to this country with his parents and spent his early manhood on a farm near Glencoe, Ill., where his folks had settled.

On November 28, 1894, he was united in marriage to Mable C. Hastings of Silver City, Ia. This couple were the parents of seven children, six sons and one daughter. In January 1910, he was united in marriage to Alvina Sachse to whom a son and daughter were born.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and an infant son of his first marriage.

His second wife and sons, Albert of Darien, and George, Wesley and Louie of Janesville, and Frank of Owen, daughter, Ruth, Mrs. Sam Evans of Palatine, Ill., and daughter, Ruby, and son, Alfred, at home, survive his passing.

Claire I. Arneson, 55, formerly of Black River Falls area, died of cancer Sunday, August 18, in Clear View Nursing Home at Juneau, where he had resided for the past seven months.

He was born in Whitehall, November 15, 1929, the son of Dorothy (Junkman) Arneson. He married Edith Smith in Merrillan, and she died in 1972. He was employed as a highway construction worker.

Survivors include three sons, Randy, of Watertown; Jerry, of Beaver Dam; and Gordon of Juneau; three daughters, Nancy Laubenstein of Fredonia; Bonnie Comstock, of Merrillan, and Pamela Bjerke, of Jacksonville, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; a brother, Ross of Black River Falls; and a sister, Alice Larson, of Alma Center. He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife, by four brothers.

Services were held Thursday afternoon in the Merrillan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Margaret Lynn Scott officiating, and burial was in Oakwood Cemetery at Merrillan. Jensen Funeral Home of Hixton was in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Arneson, 89, beloved wife, mother and the world’s best grandmother/great-grandmother “GG” passed away surrounded by family Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018.

Helen was born June 18, 1928, in Jim Falls, to Clara (Turner) and Anton Hrdlicka. She married Ralph Arneson in 1946, after he returned from World War II.

Ralph and Helen resided near Cornell, and were owners of the Cornell Gambles Store, which later changed to Hardware Hank.

The couple was adventurous, traveling around the United States and the world. They spent many winters in Mexico in their fifth-wheel trailer, camping on the beach with friends. In later years, they wintered in Brownsville, Texas, with their fifth-wheel trailer.

Helen loved fishing, gardening and especially cooking for family. The best of the family gatherings were fish fries at her home on the Chippewa River.

She is survived by her siblings – Corrine Ollis, Irene Janatis (Bob) and James (Mary Jane) Hrdlicka; children – Carole Lillis, Joanne Willi (Bill Cunningham), Kris Arneson (Leigh Stepan), Eric (Kris) Arneson, Bill Arneson (Debora Stonkey) and (Toni) Mike Arneson; loved grandchildren – Toni Ausman, Nicole Lillis, Pete Willi, Amanda Kragness, Josh Arneson, Cari Kretschman, Jolie Wittrock, Jeremy Arneson and Caleb Arneson; great-grandchildren – Adam Ausman, Ella Ausman, Lauren Willi, Cloe Wittrock, Kaitlyn Wittrock amd Anabelle Wittrock; and many grand-dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; many siblings; her son – Doug Arneson; and her grandson – Brandon Arneson.

The family thanks Lake Hallie Memory Care staff and St. Joseph’s Hospice for their wonderful care of their mother.

ARNESON, Lester C., 89, of Chippewa Falls, Formerly of Cadott, passed away Friday, April 25, 2008 at his home in the Town of LaFayette. Lester was born in Chippewa County to Chris & Amanda (Linberg) Arneson on July 17, 1918. He married Lorraine Goettl on September 5, 1956.

Marietta A. Arneson, age 79, of Cornell, WI passed away on Sunday November 19, 2017 at her home. She was born on July 18th, 1938 to William and Eleanor (LeDuc) Goettl.

Marietta grew up on the family farm and attended Country School until 8th grade and graduated from Cadott High School the Class of 1956. She also attended One year of College.

Marietta was married to Durward L. Arneson on October 1st, 1957 following marriage they lived in his cottage on the Chippewa River. She loved to garden and raise many beautiful flowers.

They purchased his Father’s farm and raised white face Herford cattle and carried on their own logging operation and built their own new home.

She loved camping, dancing and family get togethers. She was a loving wife, mother and was a deeply religious person, and excellent cook, seamstress, sewing her clothes and for her children, knitting blankets and was a 1st rate carpenter.

Saturday night she would be on the dance floor, she loved doing favors and helping the less fortunate people on Arneson Road. She was known as the flower lady and will be deeply missed by her family and those who knew her.

I did not die, I am the first flowers and green grass of spring, fluffy white clouds floating high over head, ripening grain waving in the breeze, colored leaves, softly falling snow flake colored lights of Christmas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday November 24, 2017 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cornell, WI. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Holcombe, WI following the services. A visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM on Friday at the Borton-Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell, WI.

Michael Eugene Arneson, Sr., 62 of Stanley, died Saturday, July 22nd at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born on May 10, 1955 at Victory Memorial Hospital to the

late Alvin and Donna (Nerdrum) Arneson. He grew up in the Stanley area and attended Stanley-Boyd Schools.

He was united in marriage to Kathryn Sczypioroski. Together they had three children and remained lifelong friends. In Mike’s younger years he enjoyed working with his Dad on his hobby farm milking cows and later raising feeder pigs. He later moved onto the farm and continued to raise animals including goats and chickens; along with his pet dogs.

He worked with his uncle doing upholstery work for a short time and then worked at the Stanley Corporation. Mike worked as an Iron Worker with his Dad trying for his journeyman’s but before time was completed his dad became ill and passed away. He wanted more so he went on to be a construction worker helping to build homes.

Later he went to school and became a Truck Driver for H.O. Wolding. Mike also drove truck delivering loads for Welded Co. and Precision CO on the pipeline. In later years he purchased a

bar in Owen-Mike’s Place. He also cut and sold firewood. There were no jobs he could not do. Mike also could overhaul a motor and fix machines. He definitely stayed “busy.” Mike enjoyed gardening, cooking, fishing, country music, sitting around the camp fire with family and friends and was always willing to help a friend. May you have peace!

He is survived by his three children, Tammy (Mark Anderson) Samplawski of Stanley, Michael (Samantha Salo) Arneson, JR of Iron River, MI and Amy (Tom) Schumacher of Menomonie, five grandsons, Christopher (Katelynn) Samplawski, Jacob Samplawski, Austin Mahal, Corbin Schumacher, Dredyn Arneson and one great grandson, Bentley Samplawski, his sisters, Debbie (John) Pace of Champlin, MN, Dawn (Dan) Manier of Stanley, Diane (Doug) Walters of Cadott, Darlene (Mike) Schmitt of Boyd and Denise (Jeff) Klopp of Fall Creek and his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike is preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Donna Arneson, his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Rose (Anderson) Arneson and his maternal grandparents, Harley and Nora (Brandtness) Nerdrum.

A funeral service will be at NOON on Wednesday, July 26th at Our Savior's Lutheran Church-Stanley with Pastor Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be from 10AM until time of service Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery-Stanley.

Rudolph Eugene “Gene” “Doc” Arneson, 88, passed away from leukemia May 1, 2015, at The Renaissance of Appleton.

He was born April 21, 1927, in Milwaukee.

His life was defined by a strong Christian faith and work ethic, along with a high value for community service and family.

He is survived by his children, Kris (Tom) Galarowicz, Jeff (Katie) Arneson, Allyce (Tedd) Lees, Gene (Sabine) Arneson, Mac Arneson; their mother, Jeanine Arneson; grandchildren, Brandy Duren, Aaron Arneson, Sam Lees, and Sabrina and Ian Arneson; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Trinity Duren, and Bastion Lees.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Warren, and second wife, Shirley.

Military Honors will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council at the burial of the urn Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m., in the Big Drywood Cemetery.

Coffee and greetings will follow at Big Drywood Lutheran Church in Cadott.

DORCHESTER -- Mrs. James (Viola) Arneson, 49, Route 1, Dorchester, was found dead at her home by a daughter Sunday. An autopsy has been ordered, but no foul play is suspected, according to Robert Lulloff, Clark County Coroner.

Services will be Wednesday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Dorchester. Officiating will be the Rev.. Alan C. Minshall, pastor of St. Paul's American Lutheran Church in Curtiss.

The former Viola Adele Johnson was born February 15, 1932 at Stanley to Mr. and Mrs. Jens Peter Johnson. She received her education in Stanley and was married there July 12, 1952 to James Arneson, who survives.

The couple lived in Stanley until 1959, when they came to rural Dorchester. She was employed by Teledyne Post Co. in Owen from 1965 to 1978, Since March 1878 she and her husband had operated the Mayville Inn Tavern, town of Mayville.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Mark Arneson, Dodgeville; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Shirley) Smazel, Dorchester; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Baumgartner, Stanley, and Mrs. Roland (Marie) Truchinski, Loyal; five brothers, Everett Johnson, Thorp. Elmer Johnson, Wheeling, Illinois, Donald Johnson, Fontana, Robert Johnson, Salem, Missouri and Arnold Johnson, Greenwood, and two grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.
