Dr. E. Lindeman Aaberg passed away on Dec. 22, 1984 at the Veteran's Hospital in Los Angeles. He had been ill for several months.

Dr. Aaberg graduated from Greenwood High School and lived there for many years. His father was minister of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Greenwood, Clark County.

He is survived by three sons, Steven and Dennis of Los Angeles and Kemp of Santa Barbara, also his sister Myrtle and brother Karl, as well as nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. M. K. Aaberg and brothers Arnold and Monrad.

Mrs. M.K. Aaberg passed away Friday, October 16, 1964 at Santa Monica Hospital, Santa Monica, Calif., from a coronary.

She had lived in the Pacific Palisades for 13 years. She went there after Rev. M.K. Aaberg died in 1951. She lived in her own home at 863 Galloway St., until the time of her passing. She was an active member of the Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and Santa Monica Hospital Auxiliary.

She is survived by the following children: Karl J., a teacher at Mankato High School, Mankato, Minn.; Arnold, Washington, D.C.; Conrad, M.D., Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Lindeman, M.D., Bel Air, Calif.; Myrtle, R.N., Supervisor of nurses, Santa Monica Hospital, Santa Monica, Calif.; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Rev. and Mrs. M.K> Aaberg served Lutheran congregations in Greenwood and surrounding area from 1919 to 1948.

Dr. Monard Aaberg, M.D. of Indian Wells, Calif., passed away Sept. 13, 1980. His parents were Rev. and Mrs. M. K. Aaberg, who served Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greenwood, Clark County in the 1930s.

Monard Aaberg was born in Madison, S.D. in 1906. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1924.

Hjalmer Fredrik Tunder Aalbu died at the home of his parents three miles northeast of this city (Greenwood, Clark County, Wis.), on Thursday evening at eight o’clock, Feb. 5th, 1914.

He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Sievert Aalbu and was thirty years of age, having been born April 29, 1883. Until seven weeks ago he had been a patient in the Marshfield Hospital, and has since been at the home of his parents.

Deceased had always followed the occupation of farmer until so afflicted that he was compelled to leave his home. He was married a few years ago and leaves a wife and two children.

Funeral services were held at the home by Rev. Dyre, and burial made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Sievert Aalbou was born at Opdal, Norway, Aug. 17, 1853 and died July 27, 1919 at the age of 66 years. He came to this country with his family thirty-three years ago, living in Chicago the first seven years. To this union were born three children, the youngest dying in infancy, the son died five years ago. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. Harry Larson, and eight grandchildren and one brother in Norway to mourn his loss. Since his wife died four years ago he has made his home at Longwood, Clark County, Wis.

The funeral was held at the Norwegian Lutheran Church last Friday afternoon, Rev. Aaberg officiating. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Myra Jane Abbitt, age 81, died at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Chester Turville, in the Town of Weston on Friday at ten p.m.

Funeral services were conducted on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. from the Georgas Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Nulton officiating. The body was taken to Lenox, Ia., where serviced were conducted on Tuesday and interment was made in the Lenox Cemetery.

Mrs. Abbitt was born to Sam and Mary Doughtery in Page County, Iowa, on March 28, 1870. She received her education in Iowa. On June 7, 1892 she was married to John Abbitt at Bedford, Ia. She was employed in their printing shop both before and after her marriage. Following her husband’s death in 1921, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Smith, and for the past three years she lived with her granddaughter, Mrs. Chester Turville. She was a member of the Church of Christ, of Lenox, Ia.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Smith of Granton, two granddaughters, Mrs. Chester (Helena) Turville, Neillsville and Mrs. Arthur (Eunice) Anderson of Marshfield, and Thelma, Mrs. Ralph Sutton, who made her home with the Abbitts since a young child; also four great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.

Dorothy Lucille Abbott, 83, of Cataract went to meet the Lord Wednesday, March 25, 2009.

She was born July 14, 1925, to Wesley and Ruth (Barrett) Johnson. She married Philip James Abbott Sept. 14, 1946, in Melrose. Born to them were four children.

Dorothy worked at the Autolite in La Crosse and then worked at Spartek until she retired. She was active in the United Methodist Church and was an officer in the Ladies group for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends.

Maud Pierce was born at Humbird, Wis., March 31, 1896, the daughter of Austin and Eliza Buckley Pierce, and passed away at the St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield, Wis., Sat., Feb. 13, 1937, aged 40 years, 10 months and 13 days.

She was married to William Abbott at Martinez, Calif., Aug. 21, 1926. Two children were born to this union, William John, aged 10, and Frances Edith, aged eight. She also leaves one son, Arthur Longway, by a former marriage. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and three children, her aged father in La Crosse, six sisters, Mattie, Mrs. Ira Markham, Granton; Nellie, Mrs. Herman Monte; Jennie, Mrs. Ernest Phillips; Mamie, Mrs. Emil Klott; Elsie, Mrs. Alvin Hastings; Lottie, Mrs. Glen Martel and three brothers, Delbert, Roy and Mike Pierce, all of La Crosse.

Funeral services were held at the Lowe Funeral Home in Neillsville, Feb. 16, 1937. Three Latter Day Saints Missionary ministers of La Crosse preaching the sermon, John Abbott, father-in-law of the deceased giving the opening sermon. The brothers and sisters and her father and George Abbott and wife and Herman Abbott, Richard Abbott, and Mr. and Mrs. John Abbott, all of La Crosse and several other relatives attended the funeral. She was laid to rest by the side of her mother in Fairchild Cemetery.

Albert Abegglen, 76, Abbotsford, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 1967, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been a patient for the past five weeks.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 at Zion Lutheran Church, Stetsonville, with the Rev. Wilbert Frank officiating.

The pallbearers for the interment, which was made in the Stetsonville Lutheran Cemetery, were Clarence, Kenneth and Marvin Ploeckelmann, Arthur Schrader, Delmer Smith Sr., and Clarence Viegut Jr.

Mr. Abegglen was born at Stetsonville April 6, 1891, and lived in the area most of his life. He was married to Lydia Ploeckelmann May 25, 1922, at Dorchester. They farmed in the town of Dear Creek until his retirement in July 1957. They moved to Abbotsford in 1961.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Gordon of rural Abbotsford, and Donald and Alvin of Stetsonville; two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Adeline) Schoenike of New Berlin, and Mrs. Marvin (Janet) Schrader of Manitowoc. There are 15 grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother, Ernest Abegglen of Medford, and one sister, Miss Ida Abegglen of Milwaukee.

One sister and five brothers preceded him in death.

Relatives and friends came for the funeral from New Berlin, Milwaukee, Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Medford, Tomahawk, Stetsonville, Dorchester, Colby, Abbotsford, Rockford, Ill., and Faribault, Minn.

Donald "Don" W. Abegglen, 83, Stetsonville, died on Sunday, Aug. 21 at House of the Dove in Marshfield, where he had resided the past four days, under hospice care.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville, with Rev. James Babler officiating. Burial will be at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Stetsonville. Pallbearers are Eric Abegglen, Blake Dums, Daryl Schrader, Dale Abegglen, Jim Brown and Gary Schoenike.

Hemer Funeral Service of Medford assisted the family with arrangements.

Donald Abegglen was born on March 25, 1928 in the Town of Deer Creek to the late Albert and Lydia M. (Ploekelman) Abegglen. He attended Pleasant Valley School in the Town of Deer Creek and was a graduate of Medford High School.

On October 3, 1959 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, he married Mildred M. Habeck, who preceded him in death on June 1, 2004. He owned and operated a dairy farm with his brother, Alvin, from 1959 until his retirement in 1990.

He was a lifetime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and its Men's Club, and was on the church council. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include two sons, Greg (Marilyn) of Medford and Jeff (Beth) of Stetsonville; a daughter, Lisa Dums of Stetsonville; three siblings, Adeline Schoenike of Waukesha, Alvin (Genevieve) Abegglen of Stetsonville and Janet (Marvin) Schrader of Sheboygan; two sisters-in-law, Ivadeane Abegglen of Colby and Aggie Habeck of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Babcock of Wellsville, N.Y., Christina Abegglen of Horicon, Dana (significant other Mike Snyder) Dums and Blake Dums, both of Stetsonville, and Eric Abegglen and Amy Abegglen, both of Medford; and one great-granddaughter.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon.

Gregory D. Abegglen, 58, of Medford, passed away at his home, Saturday December 3, 2016, under the care of Hope Hospice and Palliative Care.

Greg was born September 11, 1960 in Medford to Donald and Mildred (Habeck) Abegglen. He graduated from Medford Sr. High School in 1978. Greg married Marilyn Krueger on April 2, 1983 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Stetsonville.

He is survived by his Wife Marilyn of Medford, Children; Eric Abegglen of UW-La Crosse, Amy Abegglen of Medford, Siblings; Jeff (Beth) Abegglen and Lisa Dums, both of Stetsonville, Brothers and Sisters in law; Karen (Jim) Kalepp of Owen, Ronald Krueger of Abbotsford, Sandy (Denny) Orth of Abbotsford, Rich (June) Krueger of Roselleville, Connie (Rick) Rausch of Athens, and many nieces and nephews.

During his high school years, Greg started working for The John Deere Farmacy as a salesman, and furthered his career with John Deere in the Heavy Equipment Division. Following his career at John Deere, he began working for Niemuth Implement in Stetsonville, and worked in their Sales Department.

Greg had a passion for Fire/EMS. He served on the Medford EMT for 24 years, and Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Dept. and EMS for 27 years. He served as an instructor for CPR, EMS and Fire, and was also the Stetsonville Fire Inspector for 15 years. He enjoyed traveling, and woodworking.

Greg was a member of the Medford Jaycees, Stetsonville Lions and Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served as the Church Treasurer, on the Board of Education, Finance Committee, and an usher.

Greg will always be remembered for his love for people. He loved his friends and family dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday December 10, 2016 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. Rev. James Babler will officiate.

Visitation will be held Saturday December 10 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church from 9 AM until the time of service at 11 AM. Cremation rites have been accorded, burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Greg can be made to the Stetsonville Volunteer Fire Department.

STETSONVILLE - Mildred Myrtle Abegglen, 75, Stetsonville, died June 1, 2004, in Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Marshfield.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 5, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Maurina Funeral Home of Dorchester is assisting the family with the arrangements.

She was born June 24, 1928, in the town of Mayville, rural Dorchester, to Carl and Mary (Lindau) Habeck. She and Donald Abegglen were united in marriage on Oct. 3, 1959, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. The couple farmed in the town of Deer Creek, and Mildred was employed by the Medford Co-op as a sales clerk in the clothing department. After farming, they did janitorial work at Associated Bank for 13 years.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Abegglen, Stetsonville; two sons, Gregory (Marilyn) Abegglen, Medford, and Jeffery (Beth) Abegglen, Stetsonville; daughter, Lisa (Jeffery) Dums, Stetsonville; six grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Maxam, Appleton.

OBITUARY OF ALBERT ABEL

Albert Abel, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Abel, died July 7, 1934 at the home of his parents (Town of Warner, Clark County) after an illness of about six months.

He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, one brother and two sisters, Gilbert at home, Lena (Mrs. Norbert Kuester) of the Town of Warner, Hilda (Mrs. Wm. Laabs) of Milan, Wis., two nieces and two nephews, besides many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon from the West Side Reformed Church, the body was laid to rest in the West Side Church Cemetery, Rev. P. H. Franzmeier officiating.

The pallbearers were August Olm, Herman Gesch, Lloyd Longridge, Walter Rasmussen, Elmer Kuester and Harry Liebzeit.

Joesphine Rjak, Eva Miller, Mercedese Meinholdt and Leona Franz were flower girls.

The church was more than filled by relatives and friends, who came to pay their last respects to one who was well liked by all who knew him.

Daniel Abel of Abbotsford, Wis., formerly of Loyal, Clark County, Wis., was killed in an automobile accident on his sixty-ninth birthday, Oct. 10, 1929, near Algoma, Iowa.

David Abel was born Oct. 10, 1860 in the Province of Ontario, Canada. He came to the United States when a young man and soon became a citizen.

He was married at Pattersonville, Iowa in 1885 to Estella Miller. To this union were born four children, one dying in infancy. They lived in Rock Valley, Iowa until 1895, when they moved to Toledo, Iowa. In 1920 they came to Loyal, Wis., where his wife died Dec. 12, 1925. About a year ago he moved to Abbotsford.

He had been spending the winters in Florida and had stated south last Monday, going through Iowa, where he was intending to visit relatives and friends.

He leaves to mourn his loss two sons and one daughter: Harry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and William of Des Moines, Iowa; and Mrs. Grace Yilek of Granton; also six grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Harry Johnson of Artesia, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Martin of Winona, Ont., Canada. Also other relatives and a host of friends.

He was a loving father and a devoted husband.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church in Loyal, Monday, Oct. 14th, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Wadding officiating. The pallbearers were the Messrs. M. Seidelman, W. Seidelman, Kiester, Kronberger, Shellman and Wedhl.

Lloyd Donald Abel, 77, of Brussels passed away on Aug. 20, 2022. He was born September 3, 1944, in Greenwood, Wisconsin to Otto and Grace (Herr) Abel. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. In 1968, he married Dawn Marie Blondheim in Illinois.

Lloyd was a very talented woodworker. He enjoyed working with wood and could make anything he put his mind to. He also enjoyed fixing and repairing all kinds of items for friends. Lloyd loved camping, back packing, and just being outdoors.

Lloyd was also an artist. He would photograph lighthouses and old barns and then use the photos to create beautiful pencil and pastel drawings. Lloyd will be greatly missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, four children, Robert, Donald (Morgan), Susanne and Muriel; 6 grandchildren; brother Frank (Abigail) Abel; 2 sisters, Donna (Jerry) Peters, and Joanie Bujanowski; in-laws Dan and Kathy Blondheim.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.

GREENWOOD -Elsie Doris Abel, 89, of Greenwood died Sept. 28, 2004, at Neillsville Memorial Home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cuddie Funeral Home in Greenwood. Burial will follow in Greenwood City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

She was born July 15, 1915, in Greenwood to Gustav and Mary (Wehrman) Abel. She did domestic work in the Greenwood area, took care of her parents and worked on the family farm.

She is survived by three nieces, Betty (Brian) Bushnell, Wausau, Caroline Hannan, Spencer, and Evelyn Geisler, Loyal.

Frank Henry Abel, a resident of the Greenwood, Wisconsin area many years, died Monday evening at 10:00 o’clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Karl Laube, of Colby, Route 1. He had been in poor health since December when he underwent an operation. Services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock in the West Side Evangelical and Reformed church at Greenwood, Rev. Charles Koch officiating, and internment will be made in the West Side cemetery.

Mr. Abel was born in West Bend on January 1, 1874, and moved to Greenwood with his parents when a child. He was married to Louisa Franz of Town Warner on September 29, 1897. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1947. She died August 11, 1949. Following her death, Mr. Abel moved from his farm at Greenwood to make his home with his daughter at Colby, Wis.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Laube, Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmer of Milwaukee and Mrs. Adolph (Dlorine) Wendt of Owen; two sons, Otto and Adolph of Greenwood; three brothers, John, William and Gustave, all of Greenwood; 19 grand children and two great grand children. A brother and a sister preceded him in death and two sons died in infancy.

Abel, Frank Henry (1874 - 1953)

GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Frank Henry Abel, a resident of this area many year, died Monday, June 29, 1953, at 10 p.m. , at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Laube, Colby. He had been in poor health since December, when he underwent surgery.

Services have been set tentatively for 2 p.m. Friday in west Side Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Charles Koch will officiate and burial will be made in West Side Cemetery.
The body will repose at the Schiller funeral Home from Wednesday until Friday morning.

Mr. Abel, a native of West Bend, was born Jan. 1, 1874. He came to Greenwood with his parents as a child.

Married Sept. 29, 1897, to Louisa Franz, Town of Warner, the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1947. She died Aug. 11, 1949.

Following her death, Mr. Abel moved from his farm 5 miles southwest of here to the home of his daughter in Colby.

Mrs. Laube is one of three daughters and two sons surviving him. The others are Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmer, Milwaukee Mrs. Adolph (Florine) Wendt, Owen and Otto and Adolph, both of Greenwood. Two sons died in infancy.

Other survivors include three brothers, John, William, and Gustave, all of Greenwood, 19 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. A brother and sister preceded him in death.

Frank Henry Abel, 79, a resident here for many years, died Monday, June 29, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Laube, Colby.  He had been in poor health since December, when he underwent surgery.
 

Mr. Abel, who was born January 1, 1874, came to Greenwood with his parents shortly after birth.  He was married September 29, 1897, to Louisa Franz in the Town of Warner.  The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1947.  Mrs. Abel died August 11, 1949.
 

Following the death of his wife Mr. Abel moved from his farm 5 ½ miles southwest of Greenwood to the home of his daughter in Colby.  He is survived by three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Carl (Laura) Laube of Colby, Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmer of Milwaukee, Mrs. Adolph (Florine) Wendt of Owen, and Otto and Adolph Abel of Greenwood.  He is also survived by three brothers: John, William and Gustave, all of Greenwood, 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.   
 

A brother and a sister preceded him in death and two sons died in infancy.   
 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the West Side Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Charles Koch officiated.  Burial was made in West Side Cemetery.

Frank Abel, 79, passed away at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Laube at Colby on Monday evening, June 29, 1953, where he has made his home for almost four years.

He is survived by two sons, Adolph and Otto of Greenwood; three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Laura) Laube, Colby; Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmer, Milwaukee; Mrs. Adolph (Florine) Wendt, Owen; nineteen grandchildren; three brothers, John, William and Gustave, Greenwood.

His wife, a brother and sister preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 1953 at 2:00 p.m. at the West Side Evangelical and Reformed Church, with the Rev. Charles Koch officiating. Burial will be made in the West Side Cemetery.

Funeral services for Frank H. Abel were held at the West Side Reformed Church on Friday, July 3, 1953 at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Charles Koch officiated. The Senior Choir sang one German song and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elmer Jr. sang "Does Jesus Care?" accompanied by Mrs. Leona Alberts at the Organ, Mr. Elmer is the grandson of Mr. Abel's. Interment was made in the church cemetery.

The flowers were in charge of five granddaughters: Janet Laube, Shirley Elmer, Yvonne Abel, Geraldine and Carol Wendt.

The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Ed, Gilbert and ted Abel, Albert, Oscar and Ed Franz.

Mr. Abel, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank Abel, was born Jan. 1, 1874 at West Bend, Wis.. He came to Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) with his parents when he was four years old.

He was married to Louise Franz on Sept. 29, 1897. They lived on the same farm west of Greenwood fro 52 years. They cut the first tree on that farm and made a beautiful farm. In 1947 they celebrated their Golden Wedding. Following Mrs. Abel's death in 1949 the farm was sold and Mr. Able moved to Colby with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Laube, where he resided until his death on Monday, June 29, 1953. He has been in poor health since December.

He is survived by two sons, Adolph and Otto of Greenwood; three daughters, Mrs. Karl (Laura) Laube, Colby; Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmer, Milwaukee; Mrs. Adolph (Florine) Wendt, Owen; nineteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three brothers, John, William and Gustave, Greenwood.

His wife, a brother and sister preceded him in death.

Gilbert Henry Abel, 66, lifelong resident of Greenwood, died April 14 in Neillsville. He had been a hospital patient for two weeks.

Mr. Abel, son of John and Clara (Decker) Abel, was born October 31, 1905, on the home farm. He never married. He farmed with his father and worked at the carpenter trade in the area.

Survivers are a sister, Mrs. Norbert (Lena) Kuester of Greenwood; two nieces and two nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, from the Hill Funeral home in Greenwood. The Rev. Eugene Antrim, pastor of Grace Uited Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was made in the West Side cemetery.

Gustav Abel, age 90, of route 3, Greenwood, died at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Friday, November 14.  Funeral services were held Monday, November 17 at 4 p.m. at the Rinka Funeral Home at Greenwood.  The Rev. Logue of United church of Christ officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Abel was born October 15, 1885 in the Town of Warner.  He received his education in the Decker School.  He farmed all of his life in the Town of Warner and retired in 1963 and moved to Greenwood.  He was married on June 22, 1911 at Greenwood to Mary Wehrman who preceded him in death on January 19, 1967.

He is survived by the following daughters; Mrs. Norman (Selma) Geisler, Owen; Miss Elsie Abel, Greenwood; and Miss Marcella Abel, Greenwood.  He is also survived by three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Gustav Abel, 90, of Greenwood, died Friday, November 14, at a Marshfield hospital where he had been admitted November 10.

Mr. Abel was born October 15, 1885, in the Town of Warner and received his education at the Decker School. He farmed all his life in the Town of Warner, retiring in 1963. In 1964, he moved to Greenwood to live in retirement.

He was married June 22, 1911, in Greenwood to Mary Wehrman, who preceded him in death in January 1967. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Norman (Selma) Geisler of Owen; Miss Elsie Abel and Miss marcella Abel, both of Greenwood. Three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Rinka Funeral Home in Greenwood. The Rev. David Logue, pastor of Zion United Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Donald Decker, Alvin Albert, Albert Wehrman, Alvin Wehrman, Gerald Steffen and Kenneth Dyre.

Gary Schultz sang three selections, accompanied by his wife.

Hulda Caroline Abel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Abel of the West Side, was born Oct. 11, 1891 and died Friday evening, March 27, 1903, at the home on the West Side, aged eleven years, five months and sixteen days.

The funeral took place Monday afternoon from the house, Rev. Bruengger officiating.

Fred Abel, brother of the little girl, was killed by a log rolling over him in camp a year ago.  Mrs. Abel’s father died in Washington County fourteen days before the child’s death.  Thus the sorrows of the bereaved ar multiplied.  They have the sympathy of all.

Loyal - JULIE L. ABEL, age 55, of Loyal, WI, was granted eternal rest at her home with her treasured family near her side on Monday, January 21, 2019 after her courageous 14-month battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. Rev. Daniel Zimmerman will officiate, and burial will follow in the Loyal Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Kyle Abel, Mike Pappathopoulos, Ben Nikolai, Trevor Olson, Cirilo Aguilar, Marc Dunbar, Brandon Abel, Scott Beyer, Jon Bauer, Jeff Bauer, Joe Bauer, and Steve Ward. Visitation will be held at the church, on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 4pm to 8pm, and again on Saturday, from 11am until time of service.

Julie Leann Bauer was born on October 13, 1963 in Marshfield, WI, to Wallace and Donna (Redig) Bauer. She was raised and received her education in Loyal, graduating from Loyal High School in 1982. After high school, she attended and earned a degree from Mid-State Technical College. Julie married the love of her life, Perry Abel, on June 11, 1981. Together, they were dedicated and hard workers, purchasing their dairy farm in Loyal from Perry's parents. It was their pleasure and passion to develop their farm together along with their three children.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she taught 1st grade Sunday School for 25 years and previously served as church treasurer. Julie also served on the Board of Directors for Citizens State Bank, and with her family, hosted the 2018 Loyal Dairy Breakfast.

Julie was a devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and especially loved being "Grandma the farm." Julie loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her. She enjoyed spending hours cooking and preparing for her company. She also loved reading, mowing lawn, watching movies, spending time at the lake, and talking to her kids on the phone.

Julie was the beloved wife of Perry; devoted mother of: Brandon Abel and wife Kim (Esselman) of Fall Creek, Jessica Landini and husband Ryan of Baldwin, Kyle Abel and wife Brittany (Phillips) of Loyal; loving grandma to: Carter Isaac, Allie Jean, Kooper J. and Damion Perry. She is further survived by her mother: Donna M. Bauer, of Loyal; her siblings: Jeanne (Steve) Ward of Loyal, Jon (Roseann) Bauer of Loyal, Jeff (Connie) Bauer of Spencer, Joe Bauer of Loyal; her mother-in-law: Alice Kennedy of Loyal; her father-in-law: Ron (Jean) Abel of Marshfield; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wallace Bauer; one sister, Joanne Beyer; and her niece, Jenn Ward.

Libby Estella Miller was born Jan. 7, 1869 at Prairie Du Chien, Wis. With her parents she moved to Hull, Wis. in 1883, where she was married in 1885 to David Abel.

They lived in Rock Valley, Iowa until 1895 when they moved to Toledo, Iowa. From there they moved to Loyal, Wis. in 1920, where she lived at the time of her death on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1925.

To this union were born four children one child dying in infancy. She is survived by her husband David Abel of Loyal, Wis., three children, Harry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mrs. George Yilek of Granton, Wis., and William of Spencer, Wis. Also her mother Mrs. G. A. Miller of Ocheyedan, Iowa. Two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Cobb of Eldora, Iowa and Mrs. Harriet Sletcher of Ocheyedan, Iowa. Two brothers, E. T. Miller of Greenwood, Wis., and N. C. Miller of Des Moines, Iowa. Also five grandchildren. She was sick nearly a year. Very patient through all he suffering. Her death was a relief from great pain.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Tuesday afternoon and interment took place at the Loyal Cemetery.

Marcella Eldora Abel, 71, Greenwood, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Memorial Medical Center, Neillsville.  Funeral services were held at 1p.m. at Friday, April 4, 1997, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Greenwood.  Rev. Michael Kennedy officiated.  Burial was in the Greenwood City Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Dale Horn, Elmer Humke, James Hannan, Peter Hannan, Lloyd Meissner and Harry Meinhardt.

Marcella Eldora Abel was born on June 26, 1925, in the town of Warner, to Gustav and Mary (nee Wehrman) Abel.  She received her education at Decker Country School.  She then did domestic work in the Greenwood area.  She devoted much of her life to taking care of her parents and sister, and working on the family farm.  She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Greenwood; the Busy Bee’s and also sang in the church choir in her younger years.

Survivors in clued two sisters, Elsie Abel, Greenwood; and Selma (Norman) Geisler, Owen; and three nieces, Caroline Hannan, Loyal; Betty Bushnell, Plymouth; and Evelyn Geisler, Eau Claire.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Rinka Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Mrs. Gustave Abel, 77, a lifelong resident of Greenwood, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 1967 at her home. She had been in ill health the past several years.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hill Funeral Home here with the Rev. Carl Booher, pastor of Grace Methodist Church, Greenwood, officiating. Burial will be made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The body will repose at the funeral home from Sunday afternoon until time of services.

The former Mary Lydia Wehrman was born in the Town of Warner on Jan. 17, 1890. Her marriage to Gustave Abel took place June 22, 1911, at the West Side Reformed Church in Greenwood.

The couple farmed northwest of Greenwood until their retirement several years ago, when they moved to the city of Greenwood.

In addition to her husband, survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Norman (Selma) Geisler, Owen Misses Elsie and Marcella Abel, Greenwood three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.

Mrs. Abel, 77, a lifelong resident of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.), passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 19, 1967, at her home here in Greenwood.  She had been in ill health for the past five years.

The former Mary Lydia Wehrman, daughter of Frederick Wehrman Sr. and Mary (Wollkaupt) Wehrman, was born on the farm home in the Town of Warner on Jan. 17, 1890.  Here she grew to womanhood and received her education in the Decker School.

On June 22, 1911 she was united in marriage with Gustav Abel in this same church, theirs being the first marriage in the then new, present church structure.  They marked their 55th Anniversary this past June 1966.  To this union was born 3 daughters, Selma, Mrs. Norman Geisler, Owen; Misses Elsie and Marcella Abel, Greenwood.

The couple made their home on a farm 4 and ½ miles northwest of Greenwood, it being her husband’s birthplace.  In 1963 they retired and moved into Greenwood the following year.

Mrs. Abel was of a very quiet nature but a true friend to all who knew her.

Survivors are her husband, the 3 daughters, 3 granddaughters, 1 great-grandson and one son-in-law, also nieces and nephews.

Her parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers preceded her in death.

Memorial services were held at the Hill Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 1967.  Rev. Carl Booher, pastor of the Grace Methodist Church, officiated.  Mrs. Carl Booher was organist,  Soloist Steven Booher sang, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Near To the Heart of God."

Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.  Pallbearers were Alvin Alber, Arthur Schwarze, George Humke, Hubert Kuehn, Henry Vollrath and Edgar Opdycke.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Greenwood Monday afternoon for Mrs. Gustave Abel, 76, life-long resident of Greenwood who died Friday at her home. She had been in failing health for several years. The Rev. Carl Booher officiated. Burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

The former Mary Lydia Wehrman was born January 17, 1890, in the Town of Warner. She was married to Gustave Abel on June 22, 1911, in Greenwood. They farmed northwest of Greenwood until retiring a few years ago, when they moved into Greenwood.

ABEL RITES SET AT GREENWOOD

Greenwood--Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church here for Otto W. Abel, 69, Greenwood, Clark County, whose death of Sept. 17, 1971 was announce in Friday's News Herald.

The Rev. Leander Koopman, pastor, will officiate and burial will be made in the parish cemetery. Visitations may be made at the Hill Funeral Home beginning Sunday noon. A general rosary service will be held there at 8 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Abel was born Dec. 26, 1901, in the Town of Hendren, west of Greenwood, and was married Dec. 17, 1931 to Grace Herr, in Greenwood. The couple operated his father's farm for a year prior to moving to a farm 2 miles north of Greenwood. They resided there until 1940, when they moved into the city of Greenwood. Mr. Abel had been a carpenter by trade.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife three daughters, Mrs. Harry (Joan) Bujanowski and Mrs. Jerry (Donna) Peters, both of Wisconsin Rapids and Mrs. Richard (Yvonne) Rondorf, Greenwood Three sons, Harold Abel, Marengo, Ill. Lloyd Abel, Marshfield and Frank Abel, who is serving with the United States Marines in Colorado 17 grandchildren three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Laura) Laube, and Mrs. Adolph (Florine) Wendt, both of Owen and Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmer, Milwaukee and a brother, Adolph Abel, Greenwood.

He was preceded in death by a son, Albert, and a twin brother in infancy.

Funeral services were held Monday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood for Otto W. Abel, 69, who died at his home Friday. The Rev. Fr. L. Koopman officiated and burial was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Hugh Severson, Marvin Schillinger, Joe Tolaney, Sr., Oscar Miller, Julius Hoehne and Carl Lindner.

Mr. Abel was born December 26, 1901, in the Town of Mead, the son of Frank and Louise (Franz) Abel. On December 17, 1931, he was married to Grace Herr at Greenwood. They operated his father’s farm for a year, and then moved to a farm two miles from Greenwood, where they resided until 1940, when they moved into Greenwood. He was a carpenter and contractor. Mr. Abel was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a past member of the fire department.

Surviving besides his wife are three sons and three daughters: Mrs. Harry (Joan) Bujanowski, Wisconsin Rapids; Mr. Richard (Yvonne) Rondorf, Greenwood; Mrs. Jerry (Donna) Peters, Wisconsin Rapids; Harold, Marengo, Ill.; Lloyd, Marshfield; and Frank, with the Marines. There are 17 grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. Carl (Laura) Lauby and Mrs. Adolph (Florine) Wendt of Owen and Mrs. Walter (Ella) Elmers of Milwaukee, and a brother, Adolph, of Greenwood also surviving.

HEWITT — Sara Jessica Abel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Scott (Darla Birkett) Able, Hewitt, died at birth Monday at Neillsville Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery. The Rev. T P. Bradtke of Christ Lutheran Church, will officiate

Visitation will be from 10-11 a m. Saturday at Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Surviving, besides her parents, are one brother, Brian, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Abel, Racine, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Birkett, Greenwood; and great grandparents, Mrs. Anita Abel, Greenwood, and Mr. Jack Schweiger, Colonial House Living Center, Colby, and his wife who resides in Greenwood.

VERNA ABEL

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 28, 1978 at Zion United Church of Christ, Greenwood, for Mrs. Verna Abel, 67. She died at 1 a.m., Wednesday, July 26, 1978 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. The Rev. David J. Logue officiated and interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery. Gary Schultz sang and the organist was Mrs. Allan Dallman.

Verna Vollrath was born on Sept. 19, 1910 in the Town of Warner, Clark County to Mr. And Mrs. Bill Vollrath. She received her education in the Decker School. She was married to Ted Abel on Oct. 15, 1930 in the Town of Hendren. They farmed in the Town of Beaver for 28 years. Since 1961 she had been living in the City of Greenwood. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and its Ladies Aid.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Lester, Kaukauna and Ronald, Loyal; one daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Janis) Prieve, Green Bay; 13 grandchildren three sisters, Mrs. John (Erma) Seibold, Greenwood; Mrs. Dorothy Irvine, Greenwood; and Mrs. Clarence (Beatrice) Liebzeit, Greenwood; and one brother, Phillip Vollrath, Greenwood.

Pallbearers were Perry Abel, Mark Abel, Mark Prieve, Daniel Prieve, Duane Vollrath and Gary Vollrath.

GREENWOOD--William Frederick Abel, 87, Greenwood, Clark County, died Sunday evening, Dec. 13, 1959, in St. Joseph's Hospital at Marshfield, where he had been a surgical patient since Nov. 3.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Orval Egbert. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

He was a member of the Town of Hendren board and an officer of the Rocky Run School District.

He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother, Frank Abel.

Abel, William Frederick (20 February 1872 - 13 December 1959)

William Frederick Abel, 87, of Greenwood died Sunday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where he had been a surgical patient since November 3.

Mr. Abel was born February 20, 1872, in Barton.  He came with his parents to the Town of Warner at the age of seven.

He was married to Meta Schwarze on June 28, 1899, in Immanuel Reformed Church, Greenwood. After their marriage they farmed five miles southwest of Greenwood in the Town of Hendren.  For the past 11 years he had resided in the Town of Beaver.  His wife died June 16, 1946.

Surviving are two sons, Theodore and Edward Abel, both of Greenwood; two brothers, John of the Town of Eaton, and Gustave of the Town of Warner; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were to be held Wednesday afternoon from Immanuel United Church. The Rev. Orval Ebgert (Egbert) was to officiate.  Burial was to be made in the parish cemetery.  Funeral arrangements were made by the Hill Funeral Home.

Abel, William Frederick #3(20 FEB 1872 - 13 DEC 1959)

William Frederick Abel, son of the late Frank and Caroline Dathia Abel was born February 20, 1872 at Barton, Wisconsin, and came to the Town of Warner with his parents at the age of seven. Here he received his education and grew to manhood.

On June 28, 1899 he was united in marriage to Meta Schwarze at Immanuel reformed church. They farmed in the Town of Hendren until 1948 when he moved to the Town of Beaver.

He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ and was a member of the Hendren Town Board and an officer of the Rocky Run School district. He has been residing at the Home for the Aged in Greenwood.

Mr. Abel passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield on Sunday, December 13, 1959 where he had been a patient since November 3, and where he had undergone two operations.
The body was brought to Hill Funeral Home, greenwood, on Monday and lay in state from Tuesday until Wednesday.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 16th at Immanual United Church of Christ, Rev. Orval Egbert, pastor, officiated. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

The pallbearers were Norbert Kuester, Adolph Wendt, Norman Geisler, Ole Abel, Gilbert Abel and Adolph Abel.

Mr. Abel is survived by two sons, Theodore and Edward both of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, John of the Town of Eaton and Gustav of the Town of Warner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one sister and one brother.

Alfred Aberle, 30, was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon by a falling tree.

The accident happened on the Gordon Sharratt place, where Alfred Aberle was helping Mr. Sharratt cut trees. They were felling a tree of about 14 inches in diameter, which, as it fell, struck against another tree and was thrown aside from a straight fall.

Mr. Sharratt was watching the tree, and did not see it fall upon Alfred. But he heard Alfred shout, and ran to his assistance. He found that Alfred had been pinned down in the snow, and that the weight of the tree was resting upon his body. The tree was too heavy to move with a canthook, and so Mr. Sharratt eased the pressure, so far as he could, removing the snow from under the young man. He then cut a pole and pried the tree up. Finally Alfred, who was conscious at the time, was able to wiggle free and to get out largely by his own effort. There was nothing then to indicate that the injury was fatal.

Mr. Sharratt spread a blanket on his sleigh and took Alfred to the house. There he was joined by William Adams, for whom Alfred had worked more than a year. The two men helped Alfred into the Adams car, and brought him to Neillsville. He was conscious and seemingly in no serious condition until they arrived in the city. Then he became unconscious. At the hospital he rallied briefly, but did not respond to plasma, and soon died, having evidently bled internally.

Alfred was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Aberle. He is survived by his parents and by several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Aberle maintains the family home in Neillsville, her husband being in Arizona for his health.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Jaster funeral home.

Alfred Aberle, 31, who was fatally injured on March 13, when struck by a falling tree, died on the way to St. Joseph’s hospital, Marshfield, where he was removed soon after the accident. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, March 17, at the Jaster funeral home, the Rev. Floyd A. Fahlgren, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Burial took place in the Neillsville cemetery.

Alfred was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Aberle, Sr., and was born on December 31, 1913, in Chicago. At the age of 11 years he came with his parents to Clark county. They resided on a farm near Globe, and later moved to the town of Levis. He had been employed the past 14 months on the William Adams farm a few miles northwest of Neillsville.

He is survived by his parents, and the following sisters and brothers - Carl, Herman, Jr., Marie and Elsie Aberle, Neillsville; Pfc. Emil Aberle, with the U.S. army in the Philippines; and Pfc. Arthur Aberle, now serving with the army in Hawaii. The mother resides in Neillsville, and the father is living in Phoenix, Ariz., for his health.

Pallbearers were Clarence Wegner, Gordon Sharratt, Elmer Adams, Frank Laken, George Beeckler and Arnold Ebert.

Mrs. Carl Holzgethan and Mrs. Rose Guger, Chicago, Ill., aunts of the deceased, were here for the funeral.

Walter R. Abitz, 92, of the Town of Browning, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at his home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 18, at St. Andrew Ev. Lutheran Church in the Town of Goodrich with Rev. Carl J. Busse officiating.

Burial was held in Medford Evergreen Cemetery II. Pallbearers were Peter and Willard Faber, Lyle Dahl, Emil Paur, Rudy Lemke, and Ken Nowak.

Hemer Funeral Home in Medford assisted the family with the arrangements.

Walter R. Abitz was born July 25, 1906, in Germany to Gustav Friedrich and Henrietta Louise (Hess) Abitz. He came to the United States with his parents as a youngster and settled on a farm in the Town of Browning. He received his education in schools there. On February 20, 1954, he married Herta Kruger in the Town of Goodrich.

He was employed in the lumber camps and worked in the grain fields of the western states. He then farmed in the Town of Browning. While farming, he was also employed in road construction, carpentry and for Widmer Construction at various times. He retired in 1978 and enjoyed gardening, woods work and carpentry.

He was a member of St. Andrew Ev. Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Gad Band in the 1930s and had played for dances held at Gad.

Survivors include his wife, Herta; a daughter, Ingrid (Donald) Purvis of the Town of Browning; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and four brothers.

Word has been received here of the death June 10 of John Ableiter, 83, of Wrenshall, Minn., in a Duluth, Minn., hospital. Funeral services were held Friday. Burial was made in Hillside Cemetery in Carlton, Minn.

Mr. Ableiter was born July 1, 1884, in Neillsville, leaving here many years ago. He had farmed in the Wrenshall area for more than 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Olive; two sons, Archie of Wrenshall and Richard of Carlton. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Richard (Dick) Ableiter, 67, Carlton, Minn., died at his home March 24. He and his wife were former Neillsville residents.

Services were held at the Barr Brothers Funeral Chapel at Cloquet, Minn., on March 27. Officiating was the Rev. Phillip Swenson of Salem Lutheran Church. Burial was to be at the Hillside Cemetery, Carlton, at a later date.

Mr. Ableiter was born August 24, 1910. He was married to the former Elizabeth (Betty) Strangfeld, who survives him. Also surviving are four sons, Charles of Mahtowa, Minn., Harold and Ronald, St. Paul, Minn., Larry, International Falls, Minn., and one daughter, Shirley, Minneapolis: one brother, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Ableiter.

The entire community was suddenly shocked and deeply grieved by the death of P.J. Abler, one of Owen’s well known citizens who passed away early Tuesday morning at his own home as the result of a heart attack. Within a few days, on June 20th, Mr. Abler would have reached his 66th birthday.

He is survived by Mrs. Abler; a brother, Matt Abler of Mount Calvary; and three sisters, sister Levina, Notre Dame Convent, Chicago; Miss Kate Abler, Mount Calvary; and Mrs. J.W. Schlewyer, Fond du Lac.

Mr. Abler has a brother, an uncle and a cousin, who have given their lives to religion as priests, also one sister, Sister M. Levina of Chicago.

Funeral service at Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) was held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, a solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father Lange of Colby, assisted by Deacon Rev. Muckerheide of Thorp and Rev. Betz, Sub-deacon, of Stetsonville. The choir was the Young Ladies Choir of Colby.

The pallbearers were C.H. Patrie, G.I. Sturgeon, William Hilt, J. Becker, H.B. Mauel and V.D. Merriman. The Holy Name Society, of which Mr. Abler was a charter member, was represented by W.J. Mahoney, several Withee members also were present.

Final rites are to be conducted at Mount Calvary at 10 a.m. Friday and burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery there.

Upon being married to Christine M. Stollenwork in 1907, Mr. Abler took up his residence in Owen and since that time has continued to live here. He has always been active in civic matters. For many years after coming to Owen Mr. Abler owned and operated a general store but disposed of it in 1927.

Soon after this Mr. Abler received the appointment of chief of police in Owen, and during his years in that position, also served the county as deputy sheriff. During his life in Owen Mr. Abler also had held offices of village president, and was village councilman for six years before Owen became a city.

The early portion of Mr. Abler’s live reads like a book of adventure due to his excursions into Alaska and the Arctic. He was born at Mount Calvary, Fond du Lac Co., on June 20, 1869, and began his career as a telegraph operator for the Chicago and Northwester railroad at the age of 18. In 1898 he journeyed to Alaska on an old type sailing vessel, reaching there the following spring and making his home at Nome for the next eight years. For several years he operated a trading schooner, the "P.J. Abler," furnishing transportation between Seattle and Alaska ports, and also carrying hunting parties into the far north.

He was a member of a scientific expedition under the direction of Frank Kleinschmidt of the Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, in the early 1900’s, remaining in the Arctic for six months. His home was filled with mementos of his travels.

The remains of the late Phillip J. Abler were taken to Mount Calvary Thursday noon of last week, and on Friday the last rites were held at Holy Cross Church, where the church with a seating capacity of 2,000 was filled with relatives and friends.

Mr. Abler was a resident of Owen for 27 years. He was secretary of the Holy Name Society in Owen and chairman of the advisory board of the Holy Rosary Church.

GRANTON - Edward Abraham, 77, of Granton died Friday at Memorial Home, Neillsville.

Services will be Monday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Chili with the Rev. Charles P. Schumacher officiating, Burial will be in Windfall Cemetery. Visitation will be at Gilbertson Funeral Home.

Mr. Abraham was born December 3, 1904 in Genoa, Illinois, and received his education in Belvidere, Illinois. He and Mary Elder were married March 23, 1929 in Chicago, where they lived for a time before moving to Belvidere. In 1951 they moved to a farm in the town of Lynn and in 1980 located in Granton.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Merlyn (Delores) Everson, Decorah, Iowa; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anna Behm. Alliance, Nebraska; and a brother, August Abraham, Belvidere, Illinois.

He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Arlene A. Abrahamson, 82, of Fairchild, passed away early Saturday morning May 7, 2022, at Azura Memory Care in Eau Claire with her son John holding her hand as she passed on to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Arlene Ann Abrahamson, daughter of Walter and Lorraine (David) Trachte was born August 15, 1939, in Cannonville, Clark County. Arlene was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sherwood, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. She grew up on the farm in Shortville, Clark County, where, at the age of five, she realized she wanted to be a teacher. Arlene graduated from Neillsville High School in 1957, and went on to attend Wood County Teacher’s College in Wisconsin Rapids, graduating in June of 1959. In 1968, she obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree at UW-Eau Claire. Her first teaching job was at a small country school known as Worchel School by Globe, Clark County.

While at the Silverdome outside of Neillsville, Arlene met Lyle Abrahamson of Fairchild, and this led to their marriage on July 8, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton.

In 1961, Arlene accepted the 4th grade position at Fairchild Elementary School, where she influenced countless students over the decades and would become known as “Mrs. A.” Her career in Fairchild would span 41 years in length, 10 years as the 4th grade teacher, then the next 15 years as a substitute teacher while raising her son John, and in 1985 taking the role of Kindergarten teacher until she retired in 2002.

In addition to teaching and being a loving wife and mother, she was also a woman of immense Christian faith. As a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild she served as church treasurer, involved as Sunday school teacher, Ladies Aid and with the evening women society for decades. She served on the Fairchild Community Co-op Board and the Fairchild Library Board. Arlene was also a member of Jackson County Retired Teachers Association and the Wisconsin WEAC Retired Life Membership.

Arlene was also known for her talent in baking cakes for weddings birthdays. She will be remembered as a caring person who always looked out for the other person and became a mother figure to many. Also for her love of owls and sauerkraut.

Arlene will be dearly missed by her son John Abrahamson of Eau Claire, 2 sisters, Bernice Boyer and Karen (Wayne) Kurth, sister-in-law Allene Trachte, her family at Azura Memory Care, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Lorraine Trachte, Lyle, her loving husband of nearly 60 years who passed away on June 19, 2021, brothers Arnold Trachte and Byron Trachte, sister-in-law Caryl Trachte, brother-in-law, Romaine “Chuck” Boyer, and nephew Craig Boyer.

The family would like to thank Mayo Hospice and the staff at Azura Memory Care, “Arlene’s Angels” for everything that they provided for Arlene during her time there.

A visitation will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairchild, with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Sunday at the church with Pastor Jonathan Wessel officiating. Burial will be in the Fairchild Cemetery.

STURGEON BAY -- Charles Albert Abrahamson of Sturgeon Bay passed into eternal life, peacefully, with family at his side, on March 6, 2009, at Door County Memorial Hospital. Charles passed away at the age of 79 following a long and courageous battle with heart and lung disease.

Chuck was born in Sturgeon Bay on March 9, 1929, to Albert and Mary (Hogan) Abrahamson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Eugene Abrahamson and Joan Gulley.

Chuck lived in Sturgeon Bay until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II; he served three years, and was stationed in the Philippines and Guam.

After his military service, Chuck attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he received a Teaching Degree, with a minor in Mathematics. While attending Platteville he played, and later coached football. In 1954, Chuck played football for the Green Bay Packers under Coach Vince Lombardi.

His first teaching position was as an Industrial Arts instructor, and football coach in Paradise, Michigan. Later he taught and coached in various cities throughout the state of Wisconsin. In 1968, Charles, his wife, and family moved to Loyal, Wisconsin, where he taught industrial arts, driver's education, and coached the football and golf teams. After 26 years of teaching at Loyal High School, Chuck and his wife, Betty, retired to his childhood home of Sturgeon Bay.

In 2005, Chuck and Betty (Trzebiatowski) celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at St. Joseph Catholic Church surrounded by their large family and Loyal friends.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Chuck was a 4th Degree KC, and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include Betty, his cherished wife of 53 years, who nursed him through his many medical crises; and their eight children, John (Karen) Abrahamson of Livonia, Mich., (grandsons Matt, Adam, great-grandson Isaac), Joe (Debbie) Abrahamson of Seminole, Fla., (granddaughters Jen (Eddie) Roque, great-granddaughter Delaney, grandsons Tim and Michael, and granddaughter Becky), Anne (Gordy) Rosploch of Plymouth (grandsons Jonathon and Eric, granddaughters Amanda and Katherine), Mary (Ralph) Waldhart of Wausau, Susan (Leonard) Wolf of Granton, Therese (Craig) Brown of Mosinee (grandsons Travis and Connor), Lisa (Timothy) Baumgartner of Loyal (granddaughter Jade, grandsons Seth, Sam and Jacob), Thomas (Teresa) Abrahamson of Denmark, Wis., (grandson Luke); 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Charles was a wonderful person, loving father and husband, an avid sportsman, golfer, card enthusiast, and friend to all who knew him. He will be truly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 10, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Dominic Peluse officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home on Monday evening, and at the church Tuesday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at 1 p.m. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. Monday at Huehns Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made in his memory to St. John Bosco Catholic School in Sturgeon Bay, or St. Anthony Catholic School in Loyal.

A 21-year-old rural Fairchild man, David Abrahamson, was killed instantly in a car-train wreck near the village of Humbird, Monday evening.

The fatality was the sole occupant of the late model auto which was pushed approximately 1300 feet down the tracks by the Chicago and Northwestern three engine freight train.

Time of the accident was placed at approximately 7:00 p.m. Abrahamson’s body was trapped in the wreckage for several hours after the impact.

Weather conditions at the time of the accident were termed hazardous by investigating officers. Roads were snow packed and slippery and snow was falling to the point where vision was obscured.

Abrahamson was traveling west to east on County Trunk F which passes over a railroad track on the south edge of Humbird. The wreckage finally came to rest nearly a quarter mile from the intersection, pushed by the southbound freight.

It was learned that the engineer and conductor of the train quickly went to the front of the engine and found the victim in the wreckage. No pulse was reported by either of the men.

The auto was nearly flattened from the impact and was wrenched under the front cowling of the engine when officers arrived. The vehicle had to be pulled from the front of the train before Abrahamson’s body could be pulled from the wreckage.

Assisting at the scene were several Clark County officers, Jackson County Traffic officers, members of the Humbird Fire Department and from the Black River Falls rescue squad.

Abrahamson’s body was taken to the Hixton-Jensen Funeral Home in Hixton and later transferred to an Augusta funeral home. Arrangements were still pending at Press time.

Officers of the Sheriff’s and Traffic Department for Clark County are still investigating the accident as is Clark County Coroner Robert W. Lulloff.

Cause of death was tentatively believed head injuries.

ELIZABETH L. "BETTY" ABRAHAMSON, age 85, of Loyal, WI, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, WI, peacefully passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, with her devoted and loving family at her side. With her unwavering faith in God and tremendous will to live she fought a courageous battle with breast cancer and was an inspiration to all. Our beloved sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother was a remarkable woman. She taught by example and was a loving, supportive and spiritual women and friend.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, in Loyal, with Fr. Steve Brice officiating. Visitation will be held at the church, on Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. A committal service and burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Chapel, in Sturgeon Bay, at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 4, 2016.

Elizabeth Louise Trzebiatowski was born on April 4, 1930 in Amherst, WI, to Bert and Amelia (Brychell) Trzebiatowski, the eldest of six children. She was raised and received her education near Almond, WI, graduating from Almond High School in 1948. Betty then attended the Stevens Point Central State College of Teaching where she earned her teaching degree and met the love of her life Charles Abrahamson. She was united in marriage to Charles on July 30, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lanark, WI and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Her teaching career spanned over 40 years, starting in a one-room schoolhouse. Betty spent many years as a 2nd grade teacher at St. Anthony Catholic School in Loyal, WI, then at Granton Public School, where she was a Title One Reading Specialist.

She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, where she taught CCD for many years, a former member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay, and was a member of the Clark County Homemakers.

Betty had many hobbies, including, ceramics, painting, reading and quilting, where she earned an award of Master Quilter at a quilting show.

She will be dearly missed by her 8 children: John (Karen) Abrahamson of Oxford, MI, Joe (Deborah) Abrahamson of Seminole, FL, Anne (Gordon) Rosploch of Plymouth, WI, Mary (Ralph) Waldhart of Wausau, WI, Susan (Lenny) Wolf of Granton, WI, Therese (Craig) Brown of Mosinee, WI, Lisa (Tim) Baumgartner of Loyal, WI, Tom (Teresa) Abrahamson of Denmark, WI; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Bert (Helen) Trzebiatowski of Plover, WI, Greg (Matta) Trzebiatowski of Concepcion, Chile, S. Leonard Abrahamson, Sr.

Leonard E. Abrahamson, Sr., age 83, of Blair, died on Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in the Grand View Care Center in Blair.

Leoanard was born on July 26, 1920, in fairchild, to Roy and Dorothy (Matysik) Abrahamson. He married Alice Schutte on July 28, 1939 in Decorah, Iowa. Alice preceded Leonard in death on March 11, 1982.

Leonard graduated from the Fairchild High School in 1938. He served in the United States Army 28th Infantry during World War II.

Leonard was the head of welding in iron construction for the Milwaukee County Parks Division. After his retirement, Leonard moved to Gilman in 1975, and to Blair in 1998.

Leonard is survived by a son, Leonard E. (Kristy) Abrahamson, Jr. of Blair; a grandson Brian (Leanne) Abrahamson of Lamont, Ill.; three step- grandchildren, Christina (Dean) Rayburn of Onalaska, Joseph Olson of Ettrick, and Jennifer Olson of Blair; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Abrahamson of lamont, Ill.; three brothers, Charles (Sandy) and Lyle (Arlene) Abrahamson, both of fairchild, and Bernard Abrahamson of River Falls; two sisters, Carol (Lemoine) Anson of Neillsville, and Susan (Kenny) Janke of Union Grove; several nieces and nephews.

Adam Abramczuk, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Abramczuk of the Town of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.), was instantly killed when his car sideswiped another on Highway 29 about ten miles east of Abbotsford, Wednesday evening, Sept. 18th, 1947, and verturned. He was returning to Wausau, where he has been employed for some time. Theo. Cieciora of Wausau, with him, received a broken pelvis and other injuries.

Adam Abramczuk was born in the Town of Reseburg (Clark Co.) on March 22, 1923. He attended the local schools and joined the Marines on June 20, 1945, being discharge Feb. 18, 1946.

He is survived by his parents, three brothers, August of Chicago, Louis and Anton of Thorp; five sisters, Mrs. Harriet Cohn, Mrs. Vila Peliwo and Pauline Abramczuk of Chicago; Mrs. Ann Hendricks and Louise Abramczuk of Thorp.

Funeral services were held at St. Hedwig’s Church at ten o’clock Saturday morning, Sept. 20, Rev. Francis Piekarski officiating and interment following in the parish cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the local American Legion Post at the grave. Pallbearers were Paul Cieciora, Stanley Osowski, Chester, Louis, August and Anton Abramczuk.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Connie Chilicki at St. Hedwig’s Church here at ten o’clock Saturday morning for John Abramczuk, 66, of the Township of Worden (Clark Co., Wis.), a World War I veteran who passed away at the Veterans Hospital at Fort Snelling, Minn., on Tuesday, Oct. 15th, 1957, after a lingering illness.

The deceased was born in Poland on Feb. 1, 1891, and came to the United States on March 4, 1910.  He was employed in the Ford Automobile factory in Detroit for twelve years and in 1931 came to Thorp and located on a farm in the Town of Butler.

In 1927 he was united in marriage to Magdalene Lato at Thorp.  They moved to their present farm in the Town of Worden in 1942.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Chester Abramczuk of Thorp, and one daughter, Helen, Mrs. Ralph Niemiec of Chicago, two brothers, Andrew Abramczuk of Thorp and Sam Abramczuk of Mount Clemens, Mich., and eleven grandchildren.

Interment took place in St. Hedwig’s New Cemetery.  Military honors were accorded the veteran by members of Cecil Tormey Post 118 of the American Legion, with firing squad and taps at the grave.  Pallbearers were Peter Grandzinski, Louis Gulczynski, Stanley Lasiuk, Anton Cieciora, Frank Sierociuk and Stanley Niemiec.

Funeral services were held a week ago Tuesday for Alexander Abramowicz, 73, Lublin, who died Jan. 2, 1960 at Victory Memorial Hospital in Stanley.

A farmer, Mr. Abramwicz was born in Poland.  He married Mary Victorey in Pennsylvania.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Mary Vnuk, Cudahy, Mrs. Frank Nelson, Chicago, Mrs. Steve Frankiewicz, Withee, and Mrs. Joe Halenka, Milwaukee; three sons, Walter, Thorp, Sylvester, Stanley, and Edward, Lublin; four step-sons, Mike and John Victorey of Cudahy, George Victorey, Gilman, and Andrew Victorey, Kenosha; a brother, Frank of Pennsylvania, and other brothers and sisters in Poland; 35 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Officiating at the services was the Rev. Eugene Knopka.  Burial was in the St. Stanislaus parish cemetery.

Edward A. Abramowicz, 63, of Thorp, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at home.

Edward Alexander Abramowicz was born on October 21, 1957 in Stanley, at Victory Memorial Hospital, the son of Edmund A. and Rosemary F. (Gostomski) Abramowicz, Sr. He was raised on the family farm in the Town of Taft, received his education at Thorp Public Schools, and graduated from Thorp High School in 1976. Ed enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1977 and served until his honorable discharge in 1981. He was united in marriage to Barbara A. Karpinski on June 18, 1983 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig's Catholic Church in Thorp. Ed and Barb farmed until 1987, at which time, he went to work for Thorp Equipment in Thorp. In 2000, he co-owned a business, "Excel Steel Fabrication", in Stanley, which he operated until 2015. Ed then went to work with his brother-in-law, John Kulesa, at Kulesa Construction, and worked for him until the present time.

He had many interests, including deer hunting, fishing, traveling, and loved spending time with his family. But his true passion was flying. Ed and Barb attended the EAA AirVenture, in Oshkosh, for the past 25 years. At the EAA, Eddie could be heard saying, “There’s nothing better than the smell of jet fuel in the morning.”

Ed was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lublin American Legion Post #547, and the EAA.

He had an energy about him that couldn’t be matched. He was the person that everyone wanted to be around because he was just full of life and embodied what living every day “like it’s your last” meant. He always had the biggest heart. As Ed’s nephew Ben Abramowicz would say, “He is truly someone who will never be forgotten by all who met him.”

He will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Barbara; three daughters: Erica Abramowicz, Melissa (Cameron) Laidlaw, and Tiffany Abramowicz; one granddaughter: Aurora Laidlaw; his brothers: Paul (JoAnna), Wayne (Tammie), David (Karen), Mark (Lori), John (Rachel) and Keith (Jessica); his sisters: Linda (John), Debbie (Jeff), Judy, Jane, Susie (Richard), Betty Jo (Bryan) and Mary (Jay); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, John McIntire; his niece, Cassandra McIntire; and his brother-in-law, Allen Hastings.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin, with Rev. Hrudaya Raj Sunkara officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Saturday, at the church, from 9 a.m. until time of service.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus’ Catholic Church at Lublin for Mrs. Alex Abramowicz, 71, who died at her home in Bellinger (Taylor Co., Wis.) at 6:10 p.m. Sunday.  The Rev. Eugene Knopka officiated and burial took place in the parish cemetery. 

Mrs. Abramowicz, formerly Mary Klaceck, was born in 1884 in Czechoslovakia, where she received her education and was married to Paul Victorey in 1904.  Mr. Victorey’s death occurred in 1917 in Pennsylvania.  The couple had come to America in 1905. 

Her second marriage to Alex Abramowicz took place in 1917.  They came to their present address in 1919. 

Mrs. Abramowicz was a member of the Holy Rosary Society of St. Stanislaus’ Church. 

She is survived by her husband; eight sons, Paul Victorey, address unknown; Mike and John Victorey, Cudahy; George Victorey, Gilman; Andrew Victorey, Kenosha; Walter Abramowicz, Lublin; Sylvester Abramowicz, Stanley, and Edmund Abramowicz, Thorp; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Vnuk, Cudahy; Mrs. Frank Nelson, Chicago; Mrs. Frank Frankewicz, Withee; and Mrs. Joseph Helenka, Lublin; two sisters in Czechoslovakia; and 26 grandchildren.

Sherrie Lynn Abt, 59, Wausau, died Saturday, February 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a four year battle with liver cancer.

Sherrie was born March 20, 1958 in Merrill to Herbert and Irene (Dahl) Riehle. She grew up on the family farm in Athens with her eight siblings. Sherrie attended Catholic School in Athens until the 8th grade and went on to graduate from Athens High School in 1976.

Over the years, she farmed, worked for Marathon Cheese and spent the past 20 years with Kolbe & Kolbe working as a window sill manufacturer until this past November when her illness prevented her from working any more. Sherrie married Bruce Abt on September 3, 1993 in their home.

Sherrie was a very caring and selfless mother who never had a bad word to say about anyone. She never missed the opportunity to tell the ones she cared for that she loved them and compulsively hugged everyone. While living in Marathon, her outstanding gardening skills and green thumb led her to raise many successful gardens. In her free time, Sherrie enjoyed singing karaoke; especially the Carpenters, Stevie Nicks and Areosmith, which was an extension of her musical talents that she had since she was a child.

Sherrie’s strength and determination through hardship will never be forgotten. In 1993 she lost an eye to ocular melanoma; she worked through the change by relearning how to drive and continuing on with her life. Cancer returned four years ago when she was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer and her tough resolve granted her four more years together with her friends and family while receiving treatment from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN and Aspirus Oncology Department.

Sherrie is survived by her husband of 24 years, Bruce; children, Mandy and Travis (fiancée, Mao); grandchildren, Harley, Mariyah, Sierra and Mary; parents, Herbert and Irene Riehle; siblings, Shirley (Leon) Lewandowski, Steven (Jean) Riehle, Scott Riehle, Susan (John) Kamenick, Sally Ziech, Stanley (Marcia) Riehle, Stephen (Sara) Riehle and Stacie Ziegel; mother-in-law, June Abt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan “Jay”, Tammy (Chris), Barry, Lisa (Brian), Nancy (Brian), Pat (Marina), Steve (Cheryl), Mary (Ken), Susan (Frank), Faith (Steven) and David (Debra); cats, Buster and Maizy Baby; and extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Edward Abt.

The funeral service for Sherrie will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau. Fr. Nate Kuhn will be officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Kronenwetter.

Mrs. John H. Accola, daughter of Herman and Dorothea Zerbel, was born in the town of Honey Creek, Sauk County, Wis., Jan. 25, 1883, and passed away at her home in Prairie du Sac, Sept. 25, 1946, at the age of 63 years and 8 months.

The deceased grew to young womanhood in the town of Honey Creek.  Later the family lived in the town of Sumpter and then on the farm south of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.).

March 17, 1910, she was united in marriage with John H. accola and settled on the Accola homestead in Sauk County, where they lived for 34 years.  In 1944 they moved into the new home in Prairie du Sac.  She was a member of the Evangelical Church in Honey Creek.  Burial was in the cemetery near her girlhood home.

She leaves to mourn, her husband, one sons, George, on grandsons; on sister, Mrs. R.H. Zimmerman of Black River Falls; two brothers, Paul of Humbird and Martin of Madison; and many other relatives and friends.

Those from here attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Paul Zebel, Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Kaufman, and Miss Ida Zerbel.  From Black River Falls were Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Zimmerman and family.

Edward L. Achenbach Had an Exciting Life

Mined Gold in the Black Hills in Custer’s Day - Died in Neillsville.

Edward L. Achenbach, who died in Neillsville, last Sunday, lived a colorful life in an exciting period. Known hereabouts as a quiet farmer in retirement, his own memory ran back to a sight of Custer in the days of the battle of the Little Big Horn. He was then mining gold in the Black Hills, and he lived to see Teddy Roosevelt in that country, also.

Mr. Achenbach moved from the Black Hills to Pierre, S. D., and contracted with the government to supply beef to troops in that vicinity. Later he worked on a government boat plying the Mississippi, and eventually became captain of the boat. Mr. Achenbach tired of the big river and moved to Zumbrota, Minn., where he lived for two years; then to La Crosse, where he traveled for a wholesale grocery. In 1900, he purchased a farm near Columbia, in this county, and remained there 36 years. But the health of Mrs. Achenbach occasioned their removal to Neillsville. Here Mrs. Achenbach died in 1940.

Mr. Achenbach married Margaret Barthel at Zumbrota in 1885. There are four surviving daughters, Mrs. E. S. Ross, Mrs. J. K. Nielsen, Mrs. Hazel Beach and Miss Vivian Achenbach. Of these all except Mrs. Beach reside in St. Paul, and her home is in Minneapolis.

Mr. Achenbach died at the home of Mrs. Leslie Marden. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Lowe Funeral Home. Interment was in Neillsville Cemetery.

Seventy-seven year old Donald J. Acheson, Route 3, Neillsville, died on Sunday, May 12, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. He had been ill for some time.

The son of John and Rebecca (McElroy) Acheson, he was born July 28, 1907, at Dale, in Outagamie County. As a young child, his family moved to Eagle Point in Chippewa County; later the family settled in the Town of Weston in the Christie area, and it is here that he completed his education.

In Winona, Minnesota, on December 16, 1945, he took Helen Pagenkopf for his bride. Farming the rest of his life in the Town of Weston, he was active in various farm organizations. For many years, he also held jobs in road construction and lumbering while on the farm.

Surviving family includes his wife; two daughters, Pat Acheson, Schofield, Pam Acheson, St. Cloud, Minnesota; two sisters, Mrs. Hilbert (Hazel) Naedler, Neillsville, and Mrs. George (Neta) Haack, Milwaukee. Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, Russell, and one infant sister.

Services for the deceased were held by Rev. Mark Voll on Wednesday, May 15, at the United Church of Christ, Neillsville, with burial in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Zank, Glen Hallie, Donald Weiting, John Lien, Donald Olson and Ray Baldeshwiler. 

Acheson, John G. (13 Feb 1872 - 3 Augl 1928)

John G. Acheson, chairman of Weston, Clark County, Wis., died at Mercy Hospital, Oshkosh, Friday morning, Aug. 3, 1928. He had been in poor health for several months and went to the hospital on July 26 for examination. An operation was deemed advisable, and on July 30 he underwent the operation which seemed at first to be successful, but complications set in on Thursday and he passed away the next morning.

John G. Acheson was born in the state of New York Feb. 13, 1872. He came to Wisconsin with his parents when a small boy, the family settling in Outagamie Co. In 1904 he was married to Miss Rebecca McElvoy, who survives him. They moved to Chippewa Co. in 1909 and purchased a farm there, remaining in Chippewa Co. ten years. In 1919 they sold out and bought a farm in the town of Weston on Highway 73 north of Neillsville and have made their home there ever since.

While living in Chippewa Co. Mr. Acheson took an interest in public affairs, and served his town as assessor for two years and as treasurer for four years. A few years after moving here he was elected chairman of Weston, serving in that capacity, also clerk of his school district for about five years, and for nearly a year past has been a member of the Clark County Highway Committee.

The death of Mr. Acheson is a great bereavement to his family, and a great loss to this community and the entire county. He was a man of keen intelligence, analyzing readily problems that came before him, and his fairness, his unswerving honesty of purpose and his untiring devotion to duty, won for him the admiration and respect of all who came in contact with him. Few men have come into this community and in so short a time established a place in public confidence and esteem as did Mr. Acheson. He was a progressive farmer, a good man in his home and in every way an excellent citizen. He leaves his wife and four children: Russell and Donald, young men, Hazel aged 18 and Nita 14, all at home. A little daughter, Fern, died in infancy.

Deceased leaves also, four brothers: James of Appleton; Richard of Neenah, Robert of Chehalis, Wash.; Evans of Stockton, Calif.; and one sister, Katherine, Mrs. Henderson of Wella Wella, Wash.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon, brief services being held at the home and regular services at the Congregational Church in Neillsville, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. The Neillsville Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of which deceased was an honored member, attended by a body and took part in the ceremonies.

All of the offices at the Courthouse were closed during the funeral.

Russell Acheson, a former resident of the Neillsville area, passed away December 10 in an Eau Claire nursing home.

The deceased was born on December 28, 1905, near Appleton to John and Rebecca (McElroy) Acheson. At an early age, he moved with his parents to Chippewa County and in 1918 to the Neillsville area.

He worked on the home farm and later with neighboring farmers. He was employed by Roddis of Marshfield for a number of years and later at various places in Eau Claire. Due to failing health, he became a resident of a nursing home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He is survived by a brother, Donald, of Neillsville, two sisters, Hazel Naedler of Neillsville and Neta Haack of Milwaukee, six nieces and a nephew.

Funeral services were held December 13 in Eau Claire, burial was made in Neillsville. The Rev. Gary Clark of the United Church of Christ officiated.

OBITUARY OF AUGUST ACKER

August Philip Acker was born Jan. 18, 1860 at Mapleton, Waukesha County. He spent the early part of his life in Milwaukee where he worked at the carpenter trade.

On June 1, 1885 he was married to Minnie Roehdanz, who passed away May 12, 1937. In 1902 they moved on to a wild piece of land in the town of Beaver where they lived for 18 years. They came to Greenwood in 1920. He enjoyed outdoor life and spent a lot of time hunting and fishing. He was City Assessor for five years which office he held at the time of his death. He passed away at the home of his son, Ed at Owen on August 26, 1937 at 7:00 a.m. He had been visiting there since the first of the week. He is survived by one daughter, Gertrude, Mrs. Mark Smith and five sons, Walter and Robert of the Twon of Beaver; Paul of the Town of Warner; Ed of Owen and Kurt of Eau Claire and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at his home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 and he was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Rev. C.R. Gaylord officiated. The Active pallbearers were, Earl Sloniker, Don Warner, Ed Baker, Louis Arbs, Fred Behrens and Jos. Brauneis (Braunois), Jr. Honorary pallbearers were John Arends, Charles Pickruhn and Herbert Schwarze. Those in charge of flowers were, Mrs. J.S. August Philip Acker of Greenwood (Clark Co., Wis.) died suddenly of a heart ailment, early Thursday morning of last week while visiting here at the home of his son, Edward.

Funeral services were held from the Acker residence at Greenwood, Saturday afternoon at two o’clock. The Rev. C.R. Gaylord officiated at the rites and interment took place in the Greenwood Cemetery.

August Philip Acker was born Jan. 18, 1860, at Mapleton, Waukesha Co., and died at the home of his son, Edward, on Aug. 26, having attained the age of 77 years. The early years of his life were spent at Milwaukee where he worked at the carpenter trade. Thirty-five years ago he moved onto a wild piece of land in the Town of Beaver, Clark Co., where he made his home.

On June 1, 1885, he was united in marriage to Minnie Roehdanz, who passed away at her home in Greenwood, May 12 of this year. In 1920 they moved to the village of Greenwood, where he has since resided.

Mr. Acker lived an upright, honest life and was a devoted husband and a kind and loving father. He was a man that loved to be out of doors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Acker leaves to mourn his passing, five sons and one daughter, namely: Walter and Robert of the Town of Beaver; Paul of the Town of Warner; Edward of Owen; Kurt of Eau Claire; and Mrs. Mark Smith of Town of Warner. There are eleven grandchildren in whom he took special delight.

He has held the office of assessor for the village of Greenwood, the past four years and was acting in that capacity at the time of his passing.

Clarence David Acker "Dude", age 80, of rural Stanley, WI went to meet the Lord on July 13, 2004 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 17, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Abundant Life Church in Thorp, WI, with Pastor John Sindler officiating. Burial followed in the Edson Union Cemetery in Edson, WI. Visitation was held on Friday, July 16, 2004 from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Plombon Funeral Chapel, Stanley, WI.

Clarence was born on February 3, 1924 in the Town of Wilson, Eau Claire, the son of Revel and Bessie (Lewallen) Acker. He grew up and attended Stanley Area Schools and then served his country during WWII in the U. S. Air Force. After re-turning home from his tour of duty he farmed on his dad’s home farm. On December 21, 1946 he was united in marriage to Genevieve Stelter in Walkerton, IN. He was employed at Ballband Rubber Co. of Mishawaka, IN and then upon returning to Stanley area he worked and attended mechanics and welding school. In 1960 Dude and Gen purchased and operated the Pleasant Valley Store. In 1970 they purchased the home farm and farmed until he retired in 1981. Dude enjoyed life, the outdoors, and his loving family.

Genevieve E Acker, 93, of Stanley on July 17, 2020, took her last breath on earth and her next breath in Heaven. As Genevieve desired, she was at the home of her daughter; Christine and (Robert) Becker. Her family lovingly sang to her as she peacefully slept and entered the arms of H her loving Savior.

Genevieve was born on June 16, 1927 to the late Edward and Ethel Stelter of Stanley.

She attended area schools in the Wilson, Chippewa and Worden Townships. As a young lady she moved and worked in Chicago, IL and later moved to Washington, DC where she worked for US News. Upon returning to the Stanley area she met the love of her life, Clarence D Acker. They married on December 21, 1946, in Walkerton, Indiana. Clarence and Genevieve resided in the Cornell and Stanley area where they had seven sons and uuee daughters.

Surviving children are: David and (Linda) Acker, Stanley; Debra and (Francis) Gwiazdon, Hallie; Barry Acker, Stanley; Daniel and (Phyllis) Acker Stanley; Rhonda Forshier, Taipon Springs, FL; Randy and (Terri) Acker, Stanley; Roger Acker and (Natalie), Wheeler; Brian and (Sandra) Acker, Stanley;

Christine and (Robert) Becker, Jim Falls; and Scott and (Selena) Acker, Thorp. Genevieve is further survived by 52 grandchildren, 104 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Genevieve and Clarence "Dude" raised their family on hard work and sacrifice. They purchased and operated Pleasant Valley Store, Stanley, Wagon Wheel Restaurant, Thorp, and the Acker family farm, Stanley.

Genevieve lived a full life. If you met her for the first time or the 10th time she was going to tell you about her Savior Jesus Christ. She was known for being direct but always having an open door to every neighbor, friend and family member. Sunday dinners commonly included many visitors, where there was usually fresh baked pie and a lovely dinner.

Their children were raised on strict discipline but years down the road she seemed to forget her rules when it came to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known for her honesty and telling you how she felt. Her love language was making sure every family member and those she met would make it into Heaven.

The day before she passed, she had clarity and told the family to be sure and live their lives for Jesus. Some of her last words were, "Trust Jesus with your whole heart and lean not unto your own understanding."

She was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley Pentecostal Church, Stanley and Abundant life Tabernacle, Thorp.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ethel Stelter; her husband, Clarence; two grandsons: Michael and Jessie; a step-granddaughter, Christina; two great-grandsons: Ayden and Trenton; one great-granddaughter. Samara; her brothers: Ford, Lyle, Floyd and Marlin Stelter; and her sisters: Violet Shilts, Madline Helgerson, Edna Buresh-Wilda, Eleanor White, Jeanette Vitort, and four sisters in infancy.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 24,2020, at Abundant Life Church, Thorp with Pastor John Sindler officiating. Burial will follow in Edson Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday and again one hour prior to services Friday all at the church in Thorp. Plombon Funeral Service, Stanley assisted the family.

Funeral services were conducted at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Greenwood at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 24 for Jesse Acker, 4 week old infant son of David and Patricia Acker of Route 1, Loyal, Clark County, who died at 12:15 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, 1977 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Rev. David Wenger officiated at the service and Mrs. Carol Missling was the organist. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Jesse Acker was born at Marshfield on Sept. 24, 1977.

Linda Lou Acker, 75, of Stanley, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2021, at Mayo Health-Luther hospital Eau Claire. She was born on April 6, 1946, in Waukesha to the late Roy Jarvey Kleist and Fern Bieganek [Cunningham). Linda was raised by her loving grandparents Earl and Mildred Cunningham on the Cunningham family farm south of Stanley. She went to Pleasant Valley School and later Stanley High School. On August 2, 1969, she married the love of her life David Acker.

Linda worked for Patrick Cudahy and Peter's Meat for a time. However, the heart of Linda remained in being a homemaker and raising her family. She loved baking and serving others. There was always a place at Dave and Linda's table for everyone, especially with her rather large homemade biscuits and pies. She loved gardening, homesteading and serving in the Nursing home ministry at church. She worked a few years at Hutchinson's Technology in Eau Claire. She graduated from Purpose Institute with her diploma in Foundational Ministerial Studies. She also did home care for many in the area. Her passion was Jesus Christ and seeing all her children, grandchildren and family live for God with all their hearts, soul, strength and mind.

Linda is survived by her husband of 52 years, David of Stanley, six children: Brenda (Eric) Bath of Greenfield; David (Heather) Acker Jr. of Elk Mound; Bradley (Delaine) Acker of Thorp; Darla (Ryan) Demers of Pewaukee; Debby (Ben) Kotvis of Sussex; and Dana (Matt) Engibous of Pewaukee. 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; her siblings: Roy (Rose Meyer) Kleist; Sandy Bieganek; Virginia Kolter (Philip); Jeffrey Kleist (Colleen O'Heron); Cynthia Hetzel (John, deceased), and preceded in death by Susan Kleist and James Kleist (Brenda Koehler).

A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 31st at the Abundant Life Pentecostal Church- Thorp with Pastor John Sindler officiating. Richard G. "Dick" Acker, 92, of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at House of the Dove in Marshfield.

Richard Gerald Acker was born on September 6, 1929, in the Town of Warner, rural Greenwood, to Paul and Hazel P. (Himes) Acker. He was raised on the family farm, received his education in a country school and graduated from Greenwood High School in 1947. Dick was united in marriage to Virginia J. "Ginger" Franz on June 12, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Loyal, WI. He served in the U.S. Army from August 5, 1953, until his honorable discharge on June 9, 1955. After returning home from the army, he worked at the Loyal Cannery and then farmed with his dad on the home farm, which he later took over. Dick and Ginger farmed together until 1997. He had many interests, including, hunting, trapping and football, especially watching the Packers.

Dick is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Greenwood; one son: David (Pat) Acker of Loyal; two grandsons: Jeffrey (Sarah) Acker of Owen, and Travis Acker of Stanley; four great grandchildren: Amber Acker of Owen, Janel Brown of Loyal, Blake Acker of Owen, Montana Acker of Greenwood; and one great-great granddaughter, JaLeigh Brown of Loyal.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bryan Acker; one grandson, Jesse Acker; his sister, Betty Acker, and his brother, Ted Acker

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Cuddie Funeral Home, in Greenwood. Inurnment will follow in the Greenwood City Cemetery. Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Acker, a former Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, were held here yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, March 22, 1972, at the United Church of Christ, with Pastor Hilding Peterson officiating.

Burial was made in the cemetery at Greenwood (Clark Co.).

Pallbearers were Dr. Allen Pacholke, Ervin Nichols, William Wollum, and Paul, Ted and Richard Acker.

The deceased lost her life in a car-train accident that occurred at McAllen, Texas on March 16, 1972.

The former Ruby Long was born March 12, 1899 in the Town of Mentor, Clark County. On April 12, 1920 she was united in marriage to the late Ed Acker. They lived in Owen until 1940, and resided in Sparta and Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he passed away in September of 1962. Mrs. Acker then moved to McAllen, Texas, where she had made her home the past 10 years. In 1965 she was married to Robert Duenow, and he too preceded her in death, having died in 1967.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. James (Patricia) Haire, Minneapolis; also four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

GREENWOOD, CLARK COUNTY--Walter Henry Acker, 69, route 3, died of a heart attack about 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, June 22, 1955, while sitting in an automobile in front of Memorial Hospital at Neillsville, where he had been visiting a patient.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Stabnow Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Koch, pastor of Zion and West Side Evangelical Churches, officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Acker was born March 11, 1886, near Milwaukee, where he received his education before coming here at the age of 16. He purchased 80 acres of uncleared land in the Town of Beaver and established a farm where he resided until his death.

He served on the La Tart School District board and during his earlier years was active in baseball.

On Feb. 26, 1916, in the Town of Warner, he married Alice Richelieu, who survives him.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. A.G. (Gretchen) Hokenson, San Diego, Calif. a son, Donald, Los Angeles three brothers, Kurt of Olympia, Wash. Paul of Greenwood, and Edward of Chicago one sister, Mrs. Mark (Gertrude) Smith, Greenwood, and a grandchild.

Several brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

George “Greg” Edward Ackeret, 89, Medford, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where he had resided the past four years.

Funeral services are Saturday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joseph Stefancin officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery with full military rites.

Marian Josephine Ackeret, 82, Dorchester died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at the House of the Dove, Marshfield.

 
Marian was born on April 1, 1927 in Independence, to Andrew and Matilda (Nee: Marsolek) Pientok. 
 

She attended St. Peter and Paul Graded School and was a 1945 graduate of Independence High School. Marian was a 1949 graduate of Stout State Teachers College in Menomonie. She was employed at the Galesville High School, then at Whitewater High School and later at Medford High School as a Home Economics Teacher. She also later worked at Prange’s Department Store in Marshfield. 
 

On December 27, 1958, Marian was united in marriage to Gerald Ackeret at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Independence. Marian and Gerald lived in Medford, Greenwood and later in Dorchester.

 
Marian was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester, the Wisconsin Teachers Association, and B.P.W. Marian was a past Night School Instructor.

 
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-one years, Gerald; the loving mother of Kevin Ackeret of Dorchester, Ellen Ackeret of Appleton, and Faye (J. Free) Ackeret of Portland, Ore.; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Aaron (Ruth) Pientok of Independence, and Jacqueline Pientok of Independence. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

 
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and one sister-in-law; Ed (Dorothy) Pientok and Art Pientok.

 
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 10, 2010 at St. Louis Catholic Church, Dorchester with Fr. Nathan presiding.

 
Interment will be at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery, Dorchester at a later date.

 
Visitation will be Wednesday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Cecil Joseph Ackerman, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ackerman, was born in the Town of Pine Valley, July 19, 1909. He passed away the 2nd day of April, 1935, having reached the age of 25 years, eight months and 14 days. He was baptized, instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended public school at the Hillside school and after receiving his diploma, helped his parents on the farm.

The past two years he spent with his aunt, Mrs. Henry Garvin, of Cathay, N. D.; helping her on her wheat ranch. The 16th day of July 1934, he graduated from the National Radio institute, having received his diploma, as an authorized radio technician. The past winter he spent much of his time at that work, being very much interested in work along that line.

The deceased was taken ill the 17th day of March with an infection of the throat which developed into acute rheumatic fever. The best of care and medical attention was secured but all efforts to save his life failed; he passed away the 2nd day of April at 4:45 p.m. He leaves to mourn his departure his parents, one brother, Arthur, at home and one sister, Irma, Mrs. Wm Solberger, of Columbia, one sister, Frances, preceded him in death 12 years ago. He leaves a host of friends who mourn his early departure.

All through his illness a strong religious faith sustained and comforted him and he spent much time in through and prayer, seeming to know that he was to be called away and asking his Heavenly father to take him to paradise.

Those from away who attended the funeral were: C. B. Garvin of St. Paul; Mrs. Chas. Puphal of Merrill, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Manegal of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Sherman of Merrillan, Wis.; also friends from Racine and Eau Claire.

The funeral was held at the Pine Valley Lutheran Church Saturday afternoon, April 6, with Rev. Buth officiating. Interment was made in the Neillsville Cemetery.

Cynthia “Cyndi” J. (Seefeld) Ackerman, age 60, formerly of Riplinger, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at the Marshfield Medical Center.

Cyndi was born on July 9, 1963, the daughter of Norman and Nola (Schofield) Seefeld in Walworth County. She grew up in the Riplinger area and attended Colby schools.

Cyndi loved animals, especially her dog, Brandy and her cats, Champ and Punky. She enjoyed traveling, loved being at the lake, was an avid reader, liked to play games and ride motorcycle. Cyndi was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Riplinger.

Cyndi is survived by her sister, Lynne Frane of Willard; her brother, Glenn (Joanne) Seefeld of Spencer and her sister-in-law, Doris Seefeld. She is further survived by her seven nieces and nephews: Rick (Debbie) Hardrath, Robin (Larry) Hederer, Pam (Steven) Knurr, Troy (Kim) Seefeld, Kristen (Mike) Engevold, Matt (Kirsten) Frane and Sarah (Brian) Hanson; great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dennis Seefeld; a brother-in-law, Phillip Frane; a niece, Kelly Wussow and a nephew, Randy Hardrath.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. Jeff Siegel will officiate. Interment will follow at the St. John’s Cemetery in Riplinger.

Edward C. Ackerman was born in Sheboygan, Wis., June 22, 1859, and died August 18, aged 79 years. He was married to Emma Scheel on June 2, 1883, at Sheboygan, then moved to Granton, Clark County, where they lived 35 years. There were born to them seven daughters and three sons. They moved to Portland, Ore., in 1919, where he worked 12 years for the Western Cooperage. Mrs. Ackerman Laid To Rest

Funeral services were held at Marshfield Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Hansen Funeral Home for Mrs. Florence Ackerman, 82, who died at 9 p. m. Monday at a Milwaukee hospital following a three years’ illness. The Rev. Raymond J. Fleming, pastor of the First Methodist Church, conducted the rites and burial was in the West Spencer cemetery.

Mrs. Ackerman, nee Damon, was born February 6, 1866 at North Lubec, Maine, and was married at Spencer to William D. Ackerman, who proceded [sic] her in death in 1941. She was the daughter of Joseph and Susan Damon. Mrs. Ackerman received her education in Spencer and was a school teacher at Hewitt and in Minnesota. For the past thirty years she made Milwaukee her home.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Hampton, Aberdeen, S. D. and Mrs. Maurine Van Dyke, California; a son, Carroll Reed Ackerman, Washington, d. C.; five grandchildren; and a sister Mrs. John R. Kuehnau, Unity. Three brothers are dead.

Relatives from and friends from away who were here for the funeral were Leonard and John Damon, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Damon, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Damon, Tomahawk; Mrs. John R. Funeral services were held at Marshfield Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Hansen Funeral Home for Mrs. Florence Ackerman, 82, who died at 9 p.m. Monday at a Milwaukee hospital following a three years’ illness. The Rev. Raymond J. Fleming, pastor of the First Methodist Church, conducted the rites and burial was in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Mrs. Ackerman, nee Damon, was born February 6, 1886, at North Luber, Maine, and was married at Spencer to William D. Ackerman, who preceded her in death in 1941. She was the daughter of Joseph and Susan Damon. Mrs. Ackerman received her education in Spencer and was a school teacher at Hewitt and in Minnesota. For the past thirty years she made made Milwaukee her home.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Hampton, Aberdenn, S.D.; Mrs. Maurine van Dyke, California; a son, Carroll Reed Ackerman, Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. John R. Kuehnau, Unity. Three brothers are dead.

Relatives and friends from away who were here for the funeral were Leonard and John Damon, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Damon. Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Damon, Tomahawk; Mrs. John R. Kuehnau, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. John Fiebke, Athens; Miss Ina Damon, Mr. Glenn Damon, and Mrs. W. G. Holterman, Spencer; and Mrs. Al Follett, Marshfield.

Pallbearers were Leonard and Glen Damon, Spence Graves, Laurence Driscoll, George Hayward and Harry Prehn.

COLBY -- Joyce M. Ackerman, 75 of Colby, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Curtiss, Wis. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Curtiss, Wis.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Maurina Funeral Home, Abbotsford, Wis. Maurina/Community Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Joyce was born May 8, 1931, in Clark County to John and Mae (Komis) Wesneski.

Joyce and Joseph Ackerman Jr. were married Feb. 4, 1950. He died Nov. 11, 1999. They farmed in the town of Hoard, Clark County, until retiring in 1991. She also worked in area nursing homes. She moved to Abbotsford in 2005 and spent the last two years at the Angelus Retirement Community in Colby.

Joyce is survived by her children, Dennis (Lee) Ackerman of Monument, Colo., Daniel (Kristi) Ackerman of Loveland, Colo., Joann (Burt) Raczykowski of Monument, Colo., Dean (Susan) Ackerman of Owen and Douglas (Polly) Ackerman of Withee; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Mae Porath of Withee, and Jean (George) Behringer of Winneconne.

Joyce Ackerman, 75, Colby, died Saturday, May 5, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

She and Joseph Ackerman Jr. were married February 4th, 1950. Joseph died November 11th, 1999.

Joyce and Joseph farmed in the Town of Hoard until retiring in 1991. She also worked in area nursing homes. Joyce moved to Abbotsford in 2005 and spent the last two years at the Angeles Retirement Community in Colby. She enjoyed reading and puzzles. Joyce was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Marjorie Emma (Ulrich) Ackerman, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Feb. 14, 2011, from the House of the Dove in Marshfield, after a 41/2 year battle with kidney cancer. Her family is grateful to the staff and volunteers, as well as friends, relatives, neighbors, community and church support during her convalescence.

She was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Britton, S.D., to Alvin Ulrich and Olive Elizabeth (Jester) Ulrich of Wausau. When preceded in death by her parents, Marge was raised by foster parents Hattie and Ernest Lombard, and graduated from Wausau High School in 1938. She married Richard John Mittman Sr. on Dec. 25, 1938, and moved to Muscatine, Iowa. They owned and operated a family produce farm business called Mittman's Market, which employed all five children -- Richard John (Karolyn Koopman) Mittman Jr., both deceased; Larry George (Peg Meier) Mittman of Sunbury Ohio; Cheryl Sue Mittman (Wayne Haggin, deceased) of Lady Lake, Fla.; Thomas Neal Mittman of Indialantic, Fla.; and Joan Elizabeth Mittman (Chester Lewandowski) of Mount Iron, Minn.

After the children were raised, Marge worked as a Realtor for Culbert Realty, as an accountant for H+R Block, and as an enumerator for R.L. Polk City Directory.

After Richard died in February 1969, she later moved to Wisconsin where she married Joseph Ackerman Sr. of Owen, on Jan. 8, 1972. She inherited all the Ackerman children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by natural grandchildren Randy (Paulette) Mittman, Kevin (Faith) Mittman, Brian (Kim) Campbell, Mark (Kristy) Campbell, Eric (Kym) Mittman, Amanda Mittman (Ed Dobos) , Valerie Walker and Kathy (Jason) Makkyla; 13 great-grandchildren; and significant John Stock of Thorp.

She was preceded in death by significant other William Engel of Owen; and three Ackerman stepchildren.

Actively involved in the community until 85 years old, she was a librarian at Owen Public Library, serving 25 years on the Library Board, and also social director of the Owen Senior Center. Bookkeeper-treasurer for 15 years and active member of United Church of Christ in Owen, as well as volunteer at Clark County Health Care Center are other acts of service for which she is remembered with appreciation.

Her wit, wisdom, humor, generosity, consideration and selflessness will be cherished and revered by all the people whose lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ, corner of Third and Oak streets in Owen, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011. There will be interment of ashes following at Riverside Cemetery, Frenchtown Avenue, in Withee.

Mrs. Charles A. Ackerman, one of the oldest residents of this locality, died at her home in North Pine Valley, Clark County, Wis., March 25, 1919. She was born at West Bloomfield, N.J., Oct 13, 1834; came to Dodge Co., Wis. with her parents in 1849, and was married to Charles Ackerman Jan. 1, 1857. They moved to Neillsville Nov. 1, 1864 and the following spring moved on their farm in Pine Valley, which has been their home ever since. To them were born five children: Cecil, Isabel, Edith, Frederick and Cora. She is survived by her husband and three children: Mr. Cecil Ackerman, of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Henry Garvin, of Cathay, N.D. and Mr. Fred Ackerman, who lives on the home farm. She leaves also twelve grandchildren; four brothers and five sisters reside in Pierce Co., Wis. and one brother in Washington.

Mrs. Ackerman was a woman who filled well her place in life. Her industry and economy, her knowledge of home work and how to care for her family where the necessities of life were largely produced at home, and at a time when luxuries could not be bought al all, fitted here to pioneer life. There in the wilderness, she and her husband and children opened a farm, and built them a home surrounded by orchard tree, gardens and flowers. It was a real home in all its surroundings, and within the home Mrs. Ackerman shed the influence of her Christian character. She was a member of the Congregational Church, also of the Rebekah Lodge. In later years, age and feeble health prevented her taking active part in social life, but her influence will long be felt among those who knew her best.

The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Congregational Church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating. Among those from a distance present were two sisters from Spring Valley, Wis.; Mrs. John Hamilton and Mrs. Sylvester Cook.

The members of the family wish to extend their thanks to those who gave them help and sympathy in their bereavement.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 18, 1950, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for Mrs. Pauline Ackerman, who died at her farm home on Wednesday evening at 10:40 p.m. The body lay in state at the Georgas Funeral Home until one o’clock on Saturday, when it was taken to the church. The Rev. Alfred Schewe officiated. Interment was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Ackerman had been in poor health for about one year. She entered Luther Hospital at Eau Claire on November 1, and remained there two weeks. She has been failing in health since that time.

Pauline Marth was born to Albert and Albertina Beyer Marth in the Town of Pine Valley on June 13, 1878. She received holy baptism on July 7, 1878, by Rev. William Fischer. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and was confirmed with a class from that church on April 10, 1892. On January 1, 1903, she was married to Frederick Ackerman. Four children were born to this union, two of whom survive.

She is survived by her husband, one son, Arthur, on the home farm in Pine Valley, one daughter, Mrs. William (Irma) Sollberger, Town of Hewett, one brother, Joe Marth, Neillsville, and one sister Mrs. Charles (Bertha) Puphal of Merrill.

One son, Cecil, died in 1935 and one daughter, Frances, died in 1923.

Pallbearers were: Arthur Dux, Herbert Bardeleben, Art Zank, Albert Dux, Ed Marg and Frank Bardeleben.

Wilfred Galstad sang two selections accompanied by Victor Lehman at the organ.

Persons from out of town were Mrs. Bertha Puphal, Henry Puphal and family Merrill, Boyd Garvin of St. Paul.

William Fredrick Ackerman of this city passed suddenly Saturday, March 19, 1938, at 4:30 p.m. of a heart attack at the age of 66 years, 9 months and 11 days.

He was born at Glen Haven, Wisconsin, June 8, 1871, to Jacob and Mary Ackerman. He had been a resident of Clark County for 16 years.

For several years, due to a heart condition, Mr. Ackerman had not been very active, although he was a familiar figure on our streets and in the business places where he was seen almost daily, greeting his many friends and acquaintances with a happy smile.

On Nov. 24, 1898 he was united in marriage with Mabel M. Kidd of Prairie du Chein. He is survived by his wife and son and a grandson, and was preceded in death his parents, 5 brothers and two sisters.

A short funeral services was held here Tuesday at the Schiller funeral home at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) followed by the final rites and burial at Glen Haven Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Rev. E. P. Stone of the M. E. church was the officiating clergyman at the Neillsville service.

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph M. Adamczuk, resident of Medford, Wisconsin. He died peacefully in his sleep at Aspirus Care Facility in Medford after having been on Hospice for less than a week.

Son of William and Pelagia (Koltalo) Adamczuk who preceded him in death along with siblings, Russell, Bernice, Eugene, and Daniel.

He is survived by niece, Gayle and nephew, Howard, great nephew, Greg, and great niece, Sarah

Schreffler and her children, Zain and Abigail, and numerous additional family members and adopted family, and many friends.

Joseph was a talented tool and die design engineer, retiring from Crepaco in 1998 in Beloit, WI. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America and recently supported the Trail Life Scouts. Joe was a friend to all and will be remembered for his generosity, strong faith, and sense of humor. He was an outstanding story teller and could entertain for hours with his jokes. He was also a fabulous photographer and loved to document his adventures.

Joe came down with polio at 21 years of age but went on to live a productive and meaningful life, setting an outstanding example of how to rise above challenging circumstances. He put his life in the Lord’s hands and proceeded with courage, tenacity, and compassion.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the Abbotsford Evangelical Free Church on 4868 Cemetery Avenue in Abbotsford, WI.

Special thanks to the staff at Aspirus Care Facility and to those who supported Joseph in living an independent life, especially Ivan Miller.

Anna Adamec, age 102, of Neillsville, WI died Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Neillsville Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Anna Adamec was born on December 22, 1913 in West Allis, WI the daughter of Frank and Christine (Krivanek) Sojka. In 1916, she moved with her family to the township of Hiles in Wood County. She attended Scranton school. After she left school she was a housekeeper in Milwaukee and Chicago. On November 26, 1938 she married Anton "Tony" Adamec in Neillsville, WI. They lived in the Township of Levis, where they raised their family. In August 2003, she moved to the Neillsville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Anna was a member of the Western Fraternal Life Association (WFLA) Lodge 303 and Lodge 408. She was the secretary of Lodge 303 for many years.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed gardening, feeding birds, making Kolaches for her family and doing word search puzzles.

She is survived by her children, Marian (Edward) Genteman of Neillsville, WI, John (K) Adamec of Albert Lea, MN, a daughter-in-law, Madeleine Adamec of Auburn Hills, MI, 11 grandchildren, Amy (Thomas) Crissman Head, David Adamec, Lisa (Oliver) O'Neill, Gary (Mary Jo) Genteman, Duane Genteman, Cherri (Brian) Hohnke, Sheila Genteman, Kay Genteman, Sheri (Doug) Anderson, Sheli (Bob) Clift and Rob Springborg, a granddaughter-in-law, Connie Adamec, 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Anton "Tony" Adamec, a son, Anton W. Adamec, a grandson, J.B. Adamec, sisters, Christine Venzke, Francis Sojka and Barbara Tichy and brothers, Frank Sojka, Wencil Sojka and William Sojka.

Funeral Services for Anna will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, WI. Pastor Douglas Bjerke will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday and from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home

Visitation was also held Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Gesche Funeral Home. Pastor Douglas Bjerke will officiate. Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.
