I love the little plastic glow-in-the-dark stars! I was so jealous of kids who had those stars on their bedroom ceilings because I always wanted one growing up! My parents wouldn't buy them for me because they didn't see any use, also we didn't know where to buy them. Not only that, but translating what they were saying to my parents was also difficult. They would not believe me if I said we could buy little stars for the ceiling.

Anyway, I thought they were cool because, unlike the snap bracelets and sticks, I can keep them glowing just by shining a light on them!!! This includes my new earrings. (lol) I also bought some glow paint. I haven't used them yet, so I don't know how well they operate, but I'm sure it'll be magical.

I used to have a collection of all the glow-in-the-dark items I picked up or was given. I've thrown them out, but I still have some left over, so I think it's fine.

I remember when I was younger, somewhere in White Rock Lake, when I stayed out late long enough, fireflies would come out at night and start glowing. I would try to catch a few and take them home in an empty water bottle. Little did I know, even when I give them air to breathe, they would eventually die.

Recently, many of us have noticed less bug activity, including fireflies. I suppose they're not coming out right now because it's not summer time, but regardless, there used to be so many back then. What happened?

Is it because of all the construction around us?

Is it because of climate change and how many people refuse to respect our dying planet?

It's unfortunate that the new generation won't be able to experience the wonders of silly little harmless bugs roaming around minding their own business.

They won't understand the feeling of "10 million fireflies [lighting] up the world as [we] fell asleep" by Owl City.
