Founded in 1971 by David Martin, DIRIGO Search and Rescue is the oldest volunteer search and rescue organization in continuous operation in the state of Maine.

DIRIGO SAR, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is one of 15 teams that make up MASAR , the Maine Association for Search and Rescue

Our name, DIRIGO SAR , is a combination of the Latin Dirigo, meaning I lead, the State of Maine motto and the abbreviation, SAR, for Search And Rescue.

Members of DIRIGO SAR conduct searches, rescues and the recovery of lost persons in the State of Maine under the direction of the State of Maine Warden Service.
