I have a customer reporting packets loss to 9.9.9.9. we opened a case with the underlying carrier and they ran a ping from their modem to 9.9.9.9 and no packet loss. But from the MX 67 they are getting at least 30% of packet loss. The curiosity of the is that it is only happening with the customer's locations located at the north west of the USA (MT, WA and OR)

give all y'all a suggestion if you live in the U.S not sure if the DNS will work for anyone, with different ISP, or living in different regions of the world, to change your DNS in the XR500 to 9.9.9.9 for the first DNS, and 149.112.112.1 for the secondary, including changing it on your console PS4 / Xbox one if your having trouble with hit detection, registration, it has worked for me to get one shot kills on BO3 and WW2 PS4 much crisper hit detection, with the Quad94 DNS, the 1.1.1.1 DNS works for me as well for hit detection, but increases my ms ping, because of the DDOS protection it has, 9.9.9.9 doesn't increase my ping.

9.9.9.9 Dns

If you run a tracert 9.9.9.9 and it takes more than 6 hops between 192.168.1.1 - 9.9.9.9 then you're wasting your valuable energy & time. What we're looking for in DNS resolution are the least amount of hops, thus creating the least amount of latency round trip.

I get a lot of warnings since the new update rolled out with the new ! at the top of the UI.

Most of them are: reducing DNS packet size for nameserver 9.9.9.9 to 1280

and some of them are about IPv6 that I saw someone else just post about, so I joined his post regarding those.

Running on a Raspberry Pi 4, with the latest everything.

The Quad9 DNS service, at 9.9.9.9, not only turns URIs into IP addresses, but also checks them against IBM X-Force's threat intelligence database. Those checks protect agains landing on any of the 40 billion evil sites and images X-Force has found to be dangerous.

What is 9.9.9.9? It is the primary IP address of Quad9, a public recursive DNS resolver service. Before moving on to what this does for the security and privacy of internet users, it is important to understand the origin of Quad9.

It is easy and fancy when you want to set up Quad9 on your device. You can easily configure your network settings or device to use Quad9 DNS servers like 9.9.9.9 so it can act as a DNS resolver. Installing this software on your preferred application or device is also possible to further enhance the configuration process.

After working well for over a year, I suddenly had some strange Internet access problems at home, yesterday and today. At least some problems were immediately resolved by switching from 9.9.9.9 to 8.8.8.8 (Google's public DNS server) as the assigned DNS server. The problems re-appear immediately if I switch back to 9.9.9.9 address.

I /did/ have rules preventing any/all DNS queries except through IPFire (using the second method as per the wiki ). However, I ripped out ALL of them and rebooted IPFire. So now, I can query other servers like 9.9.9.9. Should work now, right?

DNS use extensive caching. So after first time a domain is quarried your router will catch the result and deliver it without asking 9.9.9.9. But if the router is quarried with new domain each time it must ask 9.9.9.9

NOTE Don't try very unknown domain. In that case the answer must be fetched from the authoritative nameserver. Or some server between quad9 and authoritative may response. So, use familiar domains which are expected to be pre-cached by 9.9.9.9. And don't rely the result from a single domain. Try with multiple domains.

This is correct behavior as they are different prefixes.

They have different route distinguishers, which makes them unique. This is the very essence of how overlapping prefixes can be carried in BGP in MPLS/L3VPN.

5.5.5.5:3209:9.9.9.9/32 does not equal 6.6.6.6:3209:9.9.9.9/32 due to the different RDs of 5.5.5.5:3209 and 6.6.6.6:3209 therefore both routes are reflected to the clients.

Neat, I did not think of it this way. Thx, it could be the case, indeed.

Back to my question: does anyone else get 50ms ping to 9.9.9.9 or I am just special? VDSL from Teksavvy would give me a consistent 11ms ping to all those servers.

EDIT:

Actually... I cannot ping any DNS server when looking the IP up directly, e.g. 1.1.1.1 8.8.8.8 9.9.9.9 etc. only 0.0.0.0 works which is obviously local

Checked ip route and what do you know, i don't have one for IPv4, so that kinda explains everything, that's why it was falling back on some messy IPv6 DNS...

I started using Quad9 DNS for extra protection (9.9.9.9 and 149.112.112.112). However, Quad9 is blocking ESET. When I went to double click eset.exe to install the product, it said I had no Internet connection. I had to jump on VPN to install ESET. Now, I can't even click the "check for updates" button within ESET. I get the error message you see below in the picture "Product update failed. Server not found."

Hello! I'm having difficulties with the service. I stopped working on apple music, apple TV. It makes me very sad. If you disable nexans Profile(DNS-over-HTTPS), then everything works fine. I have completely turned off everything in the "security" "settings". Deleted all Blocklists, now there are zero lists.

 I tried Switch temporarily to a no-profile DNSendpoint ( , dns.net dns.io or 45.90.28.0/45.90.30.0). -> failure

try setting up Quad 9 (9.9.9.9). -> success!

How do I fix the problem? I really don't want to leave this service.

DNS over HTTPS/TLS will do both but could either be blocked by upstream routers/firewalls because it is addressed to known servers (i.e. 1.1.1.1, 1.0.0.1, 9.9.9.9, etc...), or decrypted by MITM, if user trusts its certificate.

At that point, I usually activate the VPN connection, which again sets the corporate DNS nameservers. This is fine until I disconnect the VPN, at which point /etc/resolv.conf is still not updated, so once again I have to replace the first entry with 9.9.9.9. ff782bc1db
