We are team #8220, 8 To Automate from Dublin, Ohio. Our team is composed of one seventh grader, five eighth graders, one ninth grader, and a tenth grade team alumni and mentor. These teammates come from four different schools, and each teammate has a parent born in a different country. We have fun during our meetings, and especially enjoy field trips while researching projects. We are a very competitive team, earning 28 awards over the last four years, including the Champion’s Award at the Into Orbit LEGOLand International Invitational and the Champion’s Award at the City Shaper Ohio State competition. Our name was created because our eight teammates like to automate our robot and mate means friend. Our team began four years ago, when we chose Ocho, an octopus, to be our team logo and mascot. Ocho has eight arms, each with a separate brain, which all work together. This represents each of our eight team members working together as one. Also, we are a very unique and diverse team. Each of our team members have at least one parent born in a different country. We like to eat different foods during snacks to appreciate our cultural backgrounds. Finally, we call ourselves the “A Team” because each member has the letter “A” in their name.
