Micrografx Designer 9.0: A Vector Graphics Editor

Micrografx Designer 9.0 was the last version of a vector graphics editor that was originally developed by Micrografx, a company founded in 1982 by Paul and George Grayson. Micrografx Designer was first released for Windows 1.0 in 1986 under the name of In*A*Vision graphic software. It was renamed to Micrografx Designer when the version 2 was launched in 1987. Micrografx Designer was one of the first Windows-based programs that enabled users to create and edit vector graphics, such as logos, illustrations, diagrams, and technical drawings. It also supported importing and exporting various file formats, such as EPS, CGM, WMF, DXF, and DRW. Micrografx Designer had a user-friendly interface that allowed users to work with multiple documents, layers, and objects, as well as apply various effects, such as gradients, shadows, and textures. Micrografx Designer also included a set of tools for creating and editing text, curves, shapes, and symbols.

In 2001, Micrografx was acquired by Corel, a Canadian software company that is known for its CorelDRAW graphics suite. Corel renamed Micrografx Designer to Corel DESIGNER and integrated it into its CorelDRAW Technical Suite, which is a package of applications for technical design and publishing. Corel DESIGNER is still available as part of the latest version of CorelDRAW Technical Suite 2023. Corel DESIGNER has improved the features of Micrografx Designer 9.0 and added new capabilities, such as inserting 3D models into technical illustrations, publishing to 3D PDF format, and supporting translation memory systems. Corel DESIGNER also offers compatibility with other Corel products, such as CorelDRAW, Corel PHOTO-PAINT, and Corel CAPTURE.
