Lew Davies Bursary

Introduction

The Lew Davies Bursary is administered by the 808 (Thunderbird) Wing RCAFA. The surviving members of Lew Davies family and the 808 (Thunderbird) Wing RCAFA created the bursary jointly, as a formal method of memorializing Lew Davies contributions to the Air Cadet program.

Samuel Lewis (Lew) Davies (1918-1976) was born in Hill Spring, Alberta and moved to Nanaimo in 1946. He was a veteran of the second World War and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) for three years. Davies was the commanding officer of the 205 Collishaw Squadron RCAC from 1954 to 1965. He was also a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 256.

Lew and his two brothers (Arthur Davies and Ward Davies) signed up to fight in WWII as fighter pilots. Lew and his older brother Arthur signed up in 1939. Arthur was shot down during the Battle of Britain October 21, 1942. Lew’s younger brother Ward was shot down over Germany August 13, 1944.
