Pickled Ted, 1999
This exhibit was part of a twenty minute presentation (Brighton's Curiosities) we designed for undergraduate Information Studies module IL111 at the University of Brighton on Thursday the 3rd of June 1999.
For the project evaluation, it was reported that we had chosen to focus on Brighton Museum’s cabinet of curiosities. The cabinet no longer exists, and it didn’t take us long to realise that very little information was available about the cabinet and what it had contained. We thought this lack of a museum record in itself was rather curious. So, rather than abandon our plan as yet another fruitless idea, we chose to translate that lack of information into an advantage. We had been told we could interpret our chosen topic in any way we wished. Novel approaches and representations were encouraged. So, we decided to interpret and present the museum’s lack of information as a conspiracy. This notion amused us and it continued to amuse us throughout the duration of the project, which contributed to a positive attitude and a sense of conviction and enjoyment in our efforts.
Vanishing House, 2021
Vanishing House is a place in North Wales where we'd played in childhood. And while very little remains of the house (obviously, since it's been in the process of vanishing for more than half a century) one may - on a walk along this winding, hillside and woodland path - still pass by these, its old stone gate posts.
