Rank Progression

Rank promotions are governed by national standards (CATO 13-02) and local standards (Squadron Policy on Promotions). The Commanding Officer promotes deserving cadets at the recommendation of the Training Officer.

RANK PROMOTION CRITERIA

Rank promotion is a progression model wherein cadets may be recognized for proficiency in the training program and awarded suitable advancement opportunities. Promotion is not automatic and a cadet may only be awarded one rank at a time.

Promotion to the rank of Leading Air Cadet (LAC):

  • participated in the first year of the level training program for a minimum period of five months .

Promotion to the rank of Corporal (Cpl):

  • hold the rank of LAC;
  • successfully completed year one of the proficiency level training; and
  • participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living).

Promotion to the rank of Flight Corporal (FCpl):

  • completed at least six months of service at the rank Cpl;
  • successfully completed the second year of the proficiency level training program; and
  • participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living).

Promotion to the rank of Sergeant (Sgt):

  • completed at least six months service at the rank of FCpl;
  • successfully completed the third year of proficiency level training program;
  • achieved a minimum of "completed without difficulty" in PO 303 (Leadership),
  • participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living),

Promotion to the rank of Flight Sergeant (FSgt):

  • completed at least six months service at the rank of Sgt,
  • successfully completed the fourth year of the phase / star / proficiency level training program,
  • achieved a minimum of "completed without difficulty" in PO 403 (Leadership),
  • participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO X04 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living)

Promotion to the rank of Warrant Officer Second Class (WO2):

  • completed at least six months service at the rank of FSgt,
  • achieved a minimum of "completed without difficulty" in PO 503 (Leadership),
  • participated in the Cadet Fitness Assessment as part of PO 504 (Personal Fitness & Healthy Living),
  • identified as a successful candidate through the merit review board process;

Promotion to the rank of Warrant Officer First Class (WO1):

  • completed at least six months service at the rank of WO2
  • identified as a successful candidate through the merit review board process

*Note: All promotions require recommendation by level officer / Trg O / squadron staff.

For all promotions, the following factors are also considered in the process. These factors play an increasing role of importance as the cadet progresses in rank:

  • dress and deportment
  • conduct, discipline, and attitude
  • participation
  • response to direction
  • ability to interact positively and comfortably with others;
  • ability to make sound judgements regarding their own actions;
  • willingness to accept responsibility;
  • ability to solve problems effectively;
  • ability to communicate effectively;
  • ability to set a positive example for others; and
  • initiative
