This website contains three main elements: a lesson plan on classifying polynomials, information for making the lesson more accessible to students, and supporting materials for the lesson.
The lesson plan consists of a basic introduction to polynomials, how to properly write polynomials in standard form, and then the different ways one can classify a polynomial. This lesson is designed for 7th through 9th grade students who are in an algebra class or who are in need of reviewing the topic. This topic is vital for students in this target audience as it builds the foundational understanding for more advanced topics such as factoring polynomials, solving quadratics, and even graphing quadratics.
Supporting materials and information are included for teacher use to produce a successful lesson for all students in their class. The "Barriers to Learning Chart" section will provide more information on how instructors could provide additional support for students in their class that have a learning disorder/disability. It is important to note this section so that all students are able to successfully complete the lesson within their capabilities. The "Research" and "Multimedia Resources" sections contain articles and resources to support the topic and strategies used in this lesson - also to provide additional information for rationale.
