Meet Your Teacher
This is a picture of me and my partner at our friend's wedding! Yes, he is also a teacher.
Hi! My name is Mary Jane Miller (she/they), and this will be my first year teaching at Highview Middle School! Highview has a lot of teachers with the last name Miller, so students and families can feel free to call me MJ. Before joining your community, I taught Language Arts and Social Studies for a couple of years to middle schoolers in Saint Paul.
I was born and raised in Rockford, IL, attended college at University of Wisconsin - La Crosse, and have been living in the Twin Cities area for the past three years. As a college student, I double majored in Social Studies Education and Race, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I also minored in English Education. I teach with an emphasis on diverse perspectives and have a strong focus on reading and writing.
Currently, I am living with my partner and our rambunctious mini Aussie, Plutie (Pluto). In my free time, I love weight lifting, sewing, hiking, canoeing, and traveling. This summer, I actually went out of the country for the first time with a group of students! We had a wonderful experience touring Vietnam and learning more about Vietnamese history, culture, and food.
Teaching is the best job in the world, and I am very excited to join the Highview community this school year! If you ever have any questions, insight, or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
