Team Composition
There will be one division of competition:
High School : 9th-12th Grades
A team consists of no less than three and no more than four contestants.
One contestant will be designated as captain for the match.
Each school or organization may enter a maximum of one team.
In Person Game Protocol
This year there will be 3 toss up rounds. The questions in each round will be organized by categories (NC/SC, General Black History)
1. The rounds will be named the following: Purple, Gold, Founders. The winning team at the state level will receive an award certificate and a cash prize.
2.Each Toss Up Round will include 20 questions
Purple Round
Gold Round
Founders Round
After a toss-up question is read, teams will have five seconds to ring in. Once recognized by the Que Master, the team to ring in first will have to answer the question immediately. If the first team to ring in cannot answer the question or answers incorrectly, the second team to ring in will have an opportunity to answer the question. If the second team cannot answer the question or answers incorrectly, the question will be re-read and the remaining teams will have the opportunity to ring in.
A toss-up will be read only once.
Only the first response will be accepted. The Que Master may request clarification of the answer. NO BLITZING (GIVING MULTIPLE ANSWERS TO A QUESTION).
A team may ring in before the toss-up is completed. The reading of the question will stop. If the answer is incorrect or incomplete, the second team to ring in will have the opportunity to answer. If the second team answers incorrectly or incompletely, entire question will be re-read to the remaining teams in the toss-up format.
If no team is able to answer a toss-up within the allotted time, the Que Master will give the answer and go on to the next toss-up question.
Only a toss-up answer given by the team that rang in first, as indicated by the Que Master, will be accepted.
If a team calls out an answer without ringing in and being recognized by the Que Master, the answer will not be accepted and the other teams will be given exclusive opportunity to answer the question. Teams should wait until recognized before beginning an answer.
3. Questions requiring a person's name for an answer can be answered by using the surname only provided that such an answer will be ambiguous. For example, if Theodore Roosevelt were the correct answer, the students should use the whole name in order to distinguish it from Franklin Roosevelt.
INCOMPLETE ANSWERS. The Que Master may ask for more information if an answer is partially correct. For example, if a student answers "King", a more specific and complete answer may be requested.
4. The Scorekeeper will announce the score following each round.
Advisers/Teachers/Site Coordinators should ask for clarification at this time if there is any disagreement about the scores.
5. Learning aids (such as study sheet) are not allowed during the competition. Use of this material may result in the disqualification of that team.
6. Observers are welcome. General talking will not be allowed during the competition, but excitement, clapping, and cheering are encouraged.
