Function

The function of this committee is to promote the recognition and celebration of teaching excellence at SFA. Specifically, the committee will plan and coordinate the annual SFA Teaching Excellence Awards Convocation and recognition dinner for award winners. Planning will include communication of criteria and dates with the college deans so that each college chooses a winner in a timely manner; campus-wide communication about the convocation; invitations for the event; arrangements (room, food and entertainment) for the convocation and the dinner; and coordination of presentations at the convocation. The CTL will serve as the coordinating entity for the committee and TEAC events.

(b) Each committee shall meet in executive session with only members selected by departments present when writing their annual input for evaluating the performance of the associate dean or other administrative leader in the respective area of responsibility.

The idea of a Campus Curriculum Committee was proposed nearly a decade ago and, for various reasons, did not move forward. Due to many fiscal (RCM) and curricular (the new liberal education and writing requirements) changes we are convinced such a committee is now urgently needed. The college deans also strongly support the creation of this committee.

Once the course proposal reaches the provost queue in ECAS, and the Word or PDF syllabus has been emailed to the CCC staff person, the proposal is distributed to one of several CCC review teams. Review teams confer weekly to consider the course proposals that came in that week. When the review team arrives at a decision (typically within one week), the proposer is notified that day. The CCC meets monthly to review any proposals that require full committee discussion.

The Business Advisory Council (BAC) is the advisory body for the College of Business. Members specifically advise the dean through three committees that function on behalf of the college and students in the COB. Members represent organizations from the Miami Valley of Ohio, the state of Ohio, the U.S., and the global community.

Program assessment practices are supported by the SEBS Curriculum and Educational Policy (CEP) Committee. The CEP is a standing committee with oversight over courses, curricula and educational policies. The committee members include the 18 undergraduate program directors, the Dean of Academic Programs, the Cook Campus Dean, the Dean of Agricultural and Urban Programs, and the Dean of International Programs. In 2015 the CEP instituted a policy over new course and revised course proposals. Such proposals must state how the course maps to program learning goals and must describe the assessment plan. In addition, the syllabus must boldly state which program learning goal the course fulfills, and must include well written and measurable course learning goals. 2351a5e196
