The construction of a new freeway can be a super awakening experience to the resources needed to build it. For me, PA turnpike 576 is the road that made me realize just what it takes. Viewing it on the maps, you can see that where 576 is now, there used to be thick woods and rolling hills. It kinda makes me sad, but, progress can’t be stopped. Today I visited the open and unopened sections of the turnpike, and seeing it all quiet and still yet to be used was super strange. I had never seen a major road completely absent of cars before, and yet here’s just that. Absolutely no one. When I inevitably come back I’m gonna miss the days where all you could hear was the sound of crickets chirping or the soft breeze of the wind, all with no one else around to bother me in any capacity. Even with that I’m still excited to see what’s in store for this road.
You cant really see it super well because I was far away but this is the new toll plaza that they haven't fully set up yet.
These two weird sets of signs that are in... all caps and a non standard font? Can we switch them out when the turnpike is opened?
UPDATE: These signs have been replaced. Happy days are upon us
IDK why but I feel like it's sort of unique to see a diagrammatic on a toll road. I rarely ever see them, there's none on the mainline turnpike...
Should have a left exit tab on 1A but ok it works
Also I like the end of this road. It basically ends at a massive trumpet interchange (trademark of toll roads for their ability to funnel traffic into one spot i.e. toll plaza) but this interchange has no toll and it's connected to a whole bunch of other roads in weird ways and the airport. It also used to have 270 degree loop signs here but ok that works too
Also the view of I-376
Exits 1A and 1B to I-376
Exit 2 to US-30
Exit 6 to US-22
