The New Jersey Turnpike is interesting in a lot of ways. Apart from being one of the most iconic roads of the state's cultural, day-to-day history (leading to the areas of the states being called "exits" - people say things like "what exit are you from?" in reference to the turnpike's exits), this road has a whole bunch of strange inconsistencies setting it apart from other freeways, from long dashed lines to unique signage. It also has this strange portion where it spends a lot of its time divided into not 2 but 4 roadways - 3 lanes each, 6 per direction ending up to totaling 12 lanes at minimum.
