New 43-214A Bullet

New 43-214A Bullet, from AccurateMolds.com

If you ever get a hankering to design your own bullets, Tom over at Accurate Molds will draw up plans and cut the mold out for you. Then all you have to do is cast your personal mix!!!

Many have done so as well as I.....I have sent in two requests, the 43-208Aand the 43-214A. Both carry the true 44-40 profile Ogive that work well in older tight chambered rifles and revolvers. Mainly rifles. Modern 44-40 bullets the the ever so popular 200gr Magma is not a true 44-40 profile and the area of the bullet just outside of the case mouth (the forward exposed driving band) will hit the barrel rifling when chambered in older tight chambered rifles.

The 43-214A revives the tried and true Winchester and Lyman design that eventually became the Lyman 427098. John Kort took this one step further by designing the 43-215C that replicated the 427098 but added a single large lube grove for BP and a crimp grove. This is the bullet he used to shoot targets at 300 meters.

I took the nose of the 43-215C (minus the crimp grove) and the body of the 427098 and made the 43-214A. I am very impressed with this bullet's performance to 100 yards grouping 10 shots inside 4" using an Uberti Winchester 73' with a Malcolm scope. I cast two types of bullets. Good poor quality and bad poor quality!!!

I always did like plinking with Trailboss. It is a "bulky" fast burning pistol powder that fills the larger black powder cases. Plenty accurate enough for hunting but velocities are low and pressures are high.

Even with Trailboss, the 43-214A is much more accurate than the ever popular Magma design bullets no matter if they are swaged or hardcast.

As seen in the previous blog, Reloder 7 is the Cat's Meow with the 43-214A, 30 consecutive shots @ 100 yards inside 4" at original black powder velocities.
